Bad Decisions: The Way to Blunder Onward

I think there was another thread elsewhere about the purchase of Gartmore.

It was no mistake.  It is in a stunningly gorgeous setting, a mansion, with classrooms and other facilities.  Wouldn't surprise me if he wanted it because it was so much more beautiful than Ohio, or even Gunnison.  C'mon, do you think in the British Isles there was only one property for sale?  But it would have been cheaper because of its remoteness.  And its dilapidation (because it was very dilapidated when it was purchased).

Transport is difficult, remote, and a long way from the rest of Europe - the farthest north place, when in fact for Europe a better location would have been France or Germany, easier for all the European believers, more central.  BUT that might require CG to learn those languages fluently enough, or to allow control to those who did speak those languages (even though most people there are in fact very fluent in English and probably speak better English than CG).  No, NEVER! Never give up control!

Whatever, the place was a monument to his ego.  And his controlling of volunteers and in particular European Corps, who worked willingly and hard under the abuse meted out to him.  Vols and EC flocked to the place to try to help with the necessary works.  None of their help was good enough.  No, a martyr for his faith.  Or his ego.  Not a blunder - it was his scheme all along.

Twinky.......imo, you give CG too much credit.  His decisions were blunders.....caught in a narcissistic maze of his own making.

It doesn't matter how "stunningly gorgeous" the mansion or setting......it was blundering negligence.

  • The FIRST RULE in business success is location, location, location.
  • Geer violated the most basic  rule......and everything to follow brought COMPLICATIONS because of it.  Even Geer admitted as such.......[Geer's Passing of a Patriarch paper] "The final Way Corps location was not at all what we had anticipated. It is located in an area that is far removed from easily accessible transportation. It is also in a very difficult part of the British Isles to facilitate business needs, and perhaps worst of all, it is isolated from any large groups of believers. Our primary choice in England would have had good transportation, easy access to businesses that we had long dealt with and been close to a majority of the believers in Britain as well as being far more accessible to the majority of European believers."

Same thing with Camp Gunnison, imo.

  • Wierwille got caught up in the visuals and trying to replicate something like Glenn Clark's "Camps Farthest Out"......or something like it.
  • Did we get to enjoy the beauty of the snow-crested mountaintops and ski the slopes?  Did we sit under the nighttime stars at a campfire and relish the wonder of God's creation?  Did we fish the Gunnison river and/or enjoy whitewater kayaking and rafting?  Or, did we go hiking and elk hunting in the Fall?  No, no, no and no.
  • We sat in CULT CLASSROOMS and listened to "teachers" who blathered on the cult's message.  Hell.......we could have done THAT in Mudhole, Mississippi (a fictional place so don't go looking for it AFAIK).

Geer was not scheming.  He was blundering........just like his spiritual pappy, wierdhole.     :spy:

Ha !  You said "Wierdhole"

Is that similar to a black hole?

Black hole: a region of space having such an intense gravitational field that nothing can escape or when used informally refers to a place where people or things, especially money, disappear without a trace.

Fortunately when followers of TWI & splinter groups wise up to cult tactics they get all Interstellar and bust outta that "wierdhole" or its surrounding satellites.

I've heard it said before that when enough people with cognitive dissonance Gather Together the Masses collapse on themselves to create a singularity.  This singularity has such an immense Mass that is distorts all the spacetime around it (and Light cannot escape).  Thus, these people have a vision of reality extremely different than those people on the outside.

They have constructed for themselves a personalized collective brand of Plato's cave.

They sit around watching the shadows on the wall reflecting off of the fire holding intricate and meaningless endless discussions about shadows.

Meanwhile outside the cave the real world functions normally, oblivious to cave dwellers.
