papajohn, I don't know where you are, but there is a massive effort here in the Orlando area to find homes for many displaced animals. My dog walker left me a note yesterday, but I don't have it with me. I'll post what information he provided when I get home tonight.

Those poor little animals. It breaks my heart to think of them without their "mommies" and "daddies". And to think of all those who had to leave their "babies" behind when they were evacuated. I saw a story on a 24 y/o man who'd had his dog 14 years and had to leave to go to Houston but couldn't take his dog and he was sobbing. Oprah was there and her CREW took the dog with them to meet up in Houston. I cried and cried and cried and I'm not even a "dog" person. It's the kitties I love!

Yes there are lots of farm animals being rescued here is a horse rescue group that is there. The HSUS is also working with Days End Farm Horse Rescue, adding a truck and horse trailer to the fleet of rescue-specific vehicles that are designed for sheltering all kinds of animals—pets, horses, and livestock.

Hearts United for Animals has sent 22 people to the Hurricane area to recover animals. We have 12 people there now and are sending more. We have delivered 7 truck loads of supplies to various shelters in the area. Today there are 40 dogs, cats and hamsters en route to the safety of our no-kill shelter in Auburn, Nebraska. Two little dogs are coming to us because their guardian died of a heart attack trying to save them. Her last words were to save her dogs. More animals will be coming. :(-->

9/10 6:47 pm PST ASCENSION PARISH SHERFIFF STOPS RESCUERS FROM SHELTER - ARMED GUARDS OUTSIDE WON'T LET RESCUERS IN
Apparently because the Louisiana State Veterinarian refuses to lift the 15 day quarantine hold period, the Gonzales state-designated shelter, is now considered full by the local sheriff. The Parish Sheriff is holding Pasado Rescuers back with armed guards, depsite the fact that we have full vans, loaded with animals - the result of a 19 hour day of rescue. We individuals need to speak out - call local media, whoever you can, the state vet needs to cut the bureaucracy and allow foster families from around the country to take these animals
