Top ranking Way leaders Larry & Connie Panarello have said "enough is enough" and have made their exit from The Way International's "Promised Land of the Prevailing Word." They have moved to Columbus, Ohio where it is said that they wish no further contact with The Way.
In the wake of this event that took place in late September, Way Trustees hurriedly conducted emergency damage control meetings at TWI's HQ in an attempt to contain this news and prevent others from leaving with the Panarellos. Way followers regarded the Panarellos as among the most loyal of followers.
The Panarellos were instrumental in Craig Martindale's re-assertion of power at The Way following Chris Geer's attempted coup (1986-1989) in what is now referred to as the "Fog Years" and were promoted to USA Trunk coordinators. They have also worked as Region coordinators in the Way's most important region - the Ohio Valley region and most recently as Assistant Trunk coordinators.
Their departure from The Way is seen by Way watchers as a further evidence of the rapid disintegration of the Way organization and Way trustees are moving quickly to try to shore up the resolve of other Way leaders who themselves are quite probably planning their own exits.
Way watchers have considered several possible explanations for the Panarello departure. Way watcher speculation includes:
1. Larry & Connie finally got sick of the Way's Promised Land of the Prevailing Bull and all of the associated lies, abuse, legalism, and rules and regs and have finally decided that it's time they got their acts together and prepared for their retirement (something that the Way has not addressed properly with its leadership).
2. Larry and Connie were ousted by Way trustees who feared that Larry might at some time in the future become the subject of a lawsuit similar to the one that toppled Martindale and resulted in costing the Way dearly both financially and in terms of membership/recruitment.
3. Larry & Connie, who might also have feared a similar lawsuit, pre-empted the Way trustees by quitting on their own timetable.
