Pawtucket: Yeah. How would somebody that has gone through this and
then comes to the realization that they’ve been deceived and that, what
recommendations would you give as far as how to search for a church or
a fellowship for you as an individual?
Dr. Juedes: Well, I think that I would look for two main things. One
is teaching based on the bible. Some individual churches or church
bodies have one particular teacher who is in charge and that becomes
more important than what is in the bible or in some cases, like the
Roman Catholic church, tradition tends to be, as it’s orated as the
bible, so having the bible really is the center, not just said to be
that way, but really functioning that way is really important.
And I’d also look for some level of love or of caring for you as an
individual or a family too. Maybe that’s a little more nebulous, but
to some degree you can get a sense for that, if other people care about
you as an individual. And you know, in any church or fellowship there
are some people who express that and some that don’t, so you’re not
going to find a church or a fellowship where 100% of the people are
quite expressive of love or very concerned and stuff, but you can get a
sense for the general attitude or orientation of the group as well as
the individuals there.
So I’d look for bible teaching and for love. And you know, especially
if you’re trying to get rid of or make a transition from an unhealthy
group or faith to a more healthy one, it’s good to have someone on your
side there, sort of walking with you along the way, to have people who
are willing to be patient and listen to you and stuff is an important
part of that.
