Martindale's Only Known
Comments Concerning the Clinton and Lewinsky Sex Scandal.
Astonishing comments were
made by Craig Martindale, President of The Way International on February 23rd,
1999 in the O.S.C. (Outreach
Services Center)
Dining Room at the headquarters of The Way International during one of his
lunchtime Life and Morality lectures.
The comments represented
what we believe to be Martindale's first ever public expression of his feelings
regarding the Clinton
- Lewinsky sex scandal that had captured the nations media attention for the
previous two years.
Martindale, who normally
has an opinion on most topics, and is normally not hesitant in making his
opinion known, had for some reason chosen to remain curiously silent on this
issue.
Some staff at The Way
International HQ were baffled at his silence. Here was a story that was
consuming the nation for two years. The President of the United States of America
was on the brink of being thrown from office, and yet the normally highly
opinionated Martindale had up till this time (two whole years) been silent on
the entire affair.
These notes from his
comments were recorded very soon after this meeting (within a half hour) and so
we feel that we are accurately communicating the substance of what Martindale
said.
As with most of
Martindale's noon time Life and Morality lectures in the Dining Room of the
O.S.C., all staff must be present. Many childern of the staff are also present
to hear these lectures. Usually over 500 men, women and children attend the
noon time meals and lectures each weekday.
- Martindale (in an angry tone) began by claiming that
the entire scandal was a cover for something deeper. He said that the
scandal was a distraction of sorts, entirely manipulated by the adversary
to cover over and to take the attention from a really good cause.
The cause he said was
CAMPAIGN REFORM. Something that the adversary didn't want to see happen.
- Martindale then went on to say that ...with a lesbian
wife like Hillary, who could blame Bill for doing what he did? Where else
was he going to get sex?, ....he asked.
- Concerning the charges of perjury that Clinton had faced,
Martindale said something to the effect of .....of course he lied when he
was questioned - they had no right to ask him questions like that - that's
none of their business!
For most of the staff of
The Way International, these remarks were not particularly astounding or
noteworthy.
Most Way staff are very
receptive to anything that Martindale suggests or states. He is considered by
them to be God's man for this day and time, and one who speaks for God and
communicates God's will.
Staff at The Way set
their personal standards of morality based on what Martindale teaches.
It is likely therefore,
that many of those who heard Martindale's comments at noon time on February 23,
1999 have subsequently re-taught Martindale's perspective on the events of the Clinton - Lewinsky
scandal to their children.
