Based on a true story. One of the doctors who figured in the true story actually appears in this movie as himself. The director is also a medical doctor, though you would never know from the movie series that made him famous (or from the animated movies that he made featuring Robin Williams in two separate roles each). Where was I? Oh, the medical movie... Six different actors played the title character. None are famous now. Four were boys. Transgender did not factor into the plot. The title character was 14 when the movie was released. According to the plot, he should not have lived that long. He died in 2008 at the age of 30. His mother died eight years earlier.

Oldiesman, Thank you. Waysider, I would say you WERE sexually assaulted. It certainly sounds as bad or worse than what happened to the two Penn State abuse survivors I have spoken with. ( I went to that school before TWI.) Twinky, empathy for female survivors is what finally led me to recalled my own assault. I was deprogrammed from TWI, and although out physically, I was still in mentally, and refused to believe anything bad happened to anyone, including myself. But I heard and saw so many accounts that my empathy led me to shudder at what they went through, I finally believed them. Then fellow 8th corps Kristen Skedgell's book brought me to the lip of the cup. And my survivor friend evidently knew I was a survivor from work I was doing for her group, of which she is currently president. She posted things she knows about male survivor issues, and my memory fell into place after 38 years, every detail. Which is not as long as the 69 years it took me to recall my child abuse. My first therapist told me early on never to underestimate the effect of my assault on myself. My survivor friend suffered through child abuse multiple times, while she was doing tv no less. I started my recovery way late (no pun meant) but it is going well with therapy, a support group, and continued contact with my survivor friend. I have also gained a couple more friends who are teaching me how though my assault was not my fault, I DO have to do things to help my own healing. Even at 75.

That's it. J.J. was obsesses with Kool-Aid, and Walker's catch phrase followed him in- "Dy-no-mite!" Michael was studying to be a lawyer, and was in the "Lawyers of Tomorrow" program or something. This did nothing to help when something happened and he was arrested. (I forget why.) The desk sergeant introduced a dose of reality to the situation by finding it irrelevant in getting Michael out of a jail cell. (Probably very accurate for desk sergeants.) Your turn!

When this movie came out, everyone told me "It really makes you think." That is the LAST thing I want in a movie, so I haven't seen it. Action? Yes. Comedy? Yes. Sex? Yes. But "thinking"? No. This is Chrissy Metz's (whoever THAT is) fifth saddest movie of all time. For her role in this film, the star became the one and only Best Actress Oscar winner to produce and direct a Best Picture nominated film. (Taken from IMDb, this statement is awkwardly phrased. The actress won Best Actress for a different film. Though nominated for several, including Best Picture, this movie garnered no Oscars.) One of the main characters is a world class violinist. The actor portraying him did not play violin but watched two professionals perform the piece he would play in the film. Then he "finger-synched" the piece almost perfectly. A week after this movie opened wide in North America on Christmas of 1991, the star phoned a Columbia Pictures executive at 7:00 A.M. New Year's Day demanding that a hedge on Sunset Blvd needed trimming. It wasn't blocking the film title but obscuring her "Directed by" credit on the billboard. Chris O'Donnell, who would soon become a star in Scent of a Woman, won the role of the star's teenage son, Bernard, but Pat Conroy didn't think he was right. Looking through photos of other young actors, he picked one out, telling the star that she should hire him instead. The actor was the star's own son. It's about dealing with suicide. George

I just checked Imdb. They have Steve Carell listed, Fred Willard, Seth Rogen, Ben Stiller, Kathryn Hahn, Will Ferrell, Danny Trejo, and Christina Applegate, but NOT Harrison Ford nor Kristen Wiig. How confident are you that they were in this movie? *checks* Those two were in the sequel, apparently, but Ben Stiller and Danny Trejo weren't at the least.

I have no idea what movie this is. That comment about a star so narcissistic she (we know it's a she) made that phone call makes me think of Barbra Streisand. She has to have an ego big enough to inspire the Streisand Effect, and be big enough she had the phone# of the executive...and maybe to think someone wouldn't just hang up on her with that phone call. If not Streisand, some woman with as big an ego, and that narrows the possibilities considerably. So, I'm thinking Streisand. But that's all I've got. Oh- if I'm right, and Raf came to the same conclusion, then he's thinking it's not "Yentl", and I agree it's not that film.
