  1. Happy Happy Birthday to ya girl, hope things have thawed out enough up there for the Jonquils to start blooming.
  2. Excie I applaud your courage in fessing up, you are not alone, I've gone into chat drunk myself a few times and misbehaved which is one of the reasons I've stayed away from this site (for the most part). You are loved and forgiven, at least as far as I'm concerned. Mikey
  3. I own a website on bluehost.com I also own about 50 hours of windows media material (no not porn) that I'd like placed on the website and made available to students who missed attending one or more sessions of Power for Abundant Farming (no we don't castigate or denutt folks who miss sessions). I am at a loss as to how to make this happen. I want it on a secure part of the site so only those who have paid for the sessions can access it. I am sure there are instructions somewhere but I have not been able to locate them. If anyone has experience with uploading this type of material I'd appreciate hearing from you on how to do it. The real name of the class is The Sustainable Growers School so wayfer attorneys you may keep your hands in your own pockets and out of mine. The class has been run twice and graduated 24 students with apporximately 1000 acres of potential production which in Georgia essentially doubles the acreage we had previously in organic and sustainable production. Our next class begins Jan 10th Thanks Mikey
  4. Happy B'day to you too Ms Excie I hope our special day wuz special for you too and Ms Shell...thanks for remembering. Life is good here in the deep south, I managed to survive 2 tornados that devestated part of Carroll Co and two tree's next to my bedroom, have another grandchild on the way and managed to get my picture in the paper a few times since I last visited (check out http://times-georgian.com/). My next goal is to get on TeeVee and then the movies. Lots of love to all you recovering cultists... HerbiejuanKanobeMike

    Pesky storms

Dunno about lightening but our area seems to be attracting a lot of tornado's lately. One struck south of here a month or so ago, another a few miles north two weeks ago and a third last week south of here again. One of our local residents took a ride inside a funnel cloud during the second spate of storms and has quite the story to tell (yes she did survive), judging from the damage I saw we dodged a major bullet, two injured, scores of homes destroyed but no deaths.
  6. Happy Happy Joy Joy to both of youse! The Herbiemeister
  7. Anything but holiday music, I've been digging into my jazz collection and checking out a few local stations. On an off topic thought, I found a nice site, libribox.org that has downloadable public domain stories read by real people, the topic matter varies but if you are tired of hearing the stairway to heaven three times a day then this might be an alternative. I downloaded Pilgims Progresss, Anne of Green Gables, most of Sam Clemons work and more. There are about 900 stories completed ranging from aseops fables to readings from the gospel of John.
  8. What is real fun is taking a limb and cutting it about 30 feet of the ground, slicing it in half, turning a middle bowl in the 5' finished lenght of tree and carving into the stump with your name.
  9. I'd go for the bandsaw as you can stabilise the wood you are cutting (I'm assuming you have a particular outcome in mind for all this) and can guide the cut most carefully to achieve the expected outcome. I remodeled an old house, built furniture and turned bowls and I have as yet to see a situation where I needed a black and decker jig saw to make my cuts but that is just me your milage may vary... Stablising the cut on a bandsaw... I have made several carriages to make cuts on the bandsaw and I suggest you look into Taunton Press's woodworking library to learn how to make what you have in mind to come to pass. I took many of their suggestions and used them to creatre my own method of dealing with stuff.
  10. Cowgirl you can do it with a jigsaw or a bandsaw whatever you wish a jig saw is good when you do not want an entry cut into the piece you are working on but a bandsaw cuts more true in thicker wood. If you are wanting to inlay a mirror into the wood itself I suggest a router.

    Gift Ideas

Eagle I've already told my normal gift recipients not to expect much this year. None of us can afford much since most of us are either in school or just graduated so we are going to do a hand made Xmas this year! I'm working up a wooden block set for my grandaughter made of oak walnut maple and cherry, lots of different woods involved and I have to say with a coat of oil they look like the best set of *blocks* a kid could have if they wanted a set of wood blocks ;) to play with and pass on to their kids. I'm finishing an oak cutting board for my daughter n the boys...well I've already spent a dangload of $ on them so this year they get to enjoy the holiday season reflecting ;)
  12. Tony first off I wouldn't panic, I'd take a good look at what was going on in my neighborhood and then decide what to do, from there on depending on circumstances things may change significantly or not.

    Your desk

A mess I have some stuff on my real desk, some on my dining room table and most of the other stuff is scattered between here and there. I seem to function ok but I do miss things being lined up.
  14. Yes Belle My inner kid is still functioning too, my body however protests much these days ;) I like #8 the best, it's repeated in different terms throughout.
  15. Vick initially denied knowledge and involvement in the dog fighting ring so it's abvious he had prior knowledge that what he was doing was illegal. He kept the innocent charade up until his buddies started talking and getting serious jail time anyway. I think that is more telling of his true character than anything the NAACP can say about dog fighting being a cultural thang. I'm not a big Falcons fan but from what I've seen of football games and the sport news it looks to me like Vick was overpaid overhyped and overcoddled. In other words he never lived up to his salary or his place as a team leader. That observation aside I would imagine a comeback might not be in Vicks best interest, I hear there are more than a few animal loving linebackers that would love to get their hands on his arse, just to show his how much fun it is being torn up n beat down.
  16. My tips for kids trying to navigate life :) 1. Every takeoff is optional. Every landing is mandatory. 2. Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous. 3. A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again. 4. Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself. 5. Never let life take you somewhere your brain didn't get to five minutes earlier. 6. You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck. 7. Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgment. 8. Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed
  17. Juan more for the road :) Rules For Flight... There is a lot pilots have to take into account when haulling your arse across the sky... 1. Every takeoff is optional. Every landing is mandatory. 2. If you push the stick forward, the houses get bigger. If you pull the stick back, they get smaller. That is, unless you keep pulling the stick all the way back, then they get bigger again. 3. Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous. 4. It's always better to be down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here. 5. The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. 6. The propeller is just a big fan in front of the plane used to keep the pilot cool. When it stops, you can actually watch the pilot start sweating. 7. When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No one has ever collided with the sky. 8. A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again. 9. Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself. 10. You know you've landed with the wheels up if it takes full power to taxi to the ramp. 11. The probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival. Large angle of arrival, small probability of survival and vice versa. 12. Never let an aircraft take you somewhere your brain didn't get to five minutes earlier. 13. Stay out of clouds. The silver lining everyone keeps talking about might be another airplane going in the opposite direction. Reliable sources also report that mountains have been known to hide out in clouds. 14. Always try to keep the number of landings you make equal to the number of take offs you've made. 15. There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately no one knows what they are. 16. You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck. 17. Helicopters can't fly; they're just so ugly the earth repels them. 18. If all you can see out of the window is ground that's going round and round and all you can hear is commotion coming from the passenger compartment, things are not at all as they should be. 19. In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose. 20. Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgment. 21. It's always a good idea to keep the pointy end going forward as much as possible. 22. Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed. 23. Remember, gravity is not just a good idea. It's the law. And it's not subject to repeal. 24. The four most useless things to a pilot are the altitude above you, runway behind you, gas back at the airport, and a tenth of a second ago. 25. There are old pilots and there are bold pilots. There are, however, no old, bold pilots. The number one rule of aviation is: Any landing you walk away from is a good landing
  18. There sure are a lot of posts in this thread, I certainly hope our good friend W isn't watching ;) Cannibus like most other drugs is neither good nor bad, it just is. It is our use of the drug that causes problems. Some people can use it with no negative effects, other people can use it and end up really ....ied up. I think it is like the disclaimer for a heart drug, may cause strokes heart attack, indigenstion and sleeplessness, diarhea incontinence or heart palpitations... heck drinking milk can cause serious mental health problems if you are lactose intolerant I am more concerned with the drivers that are driving an automobile under the influence of prescribed drugs than I am with those that drive slightly stoned on marijuana.
  19. That sounds strikingly like the reasoning behind the war on terror, different subject but similar plot. Are human activites affecting the planet? Certainly Can we quit doing it? Probably Will it make a difference in the grand scheme of things? I think so after all we were directed to steward His creation which includes terra firma Will we? Sooner or later. I am reminded of the black plague and how believers of the day thought it was Gods wrath pouring out on a sinful world. Turns out it was fleas.
  20. I tried to find a copy of this report I guess this will have to do. As you can see the effect of the TRG project on the earths rotation is very minimal, hardly a fly fart in the grand scheme of things. http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ba...0,5860508.story Title: Co-Seismic Energy Changes Induced by Earthquakes on a Rotating, Gravitating Earth Author(s): Chao, Benjamin F.; Gross, Richard S. Abstract: Besides operating its own energy budget, an earthquake acts as an agent transferring a much greater amount of energy among the Earth's rotation, elastic field, gravitational field and internal heat. We compute the co-seismic, globally integrated gravitational and rotation changes induced by some 20,000 large earthquakes that occurred in the last quarter century, according to Chao et al. (1995, GJI, 122,776- 783,784-789) and using the Harvard CMT catalog. The result confirms an extremely strong tendency for the earthquakes to decrease the global gravitational energy and to increase the spin energy. It is found that energy is being extracted from the Earth's gravitational field by the action of earthquakes at an average rate of about approx. 2 TeraW during the studied period, larger by far than the approx. 7 GigaW for the average rate of the earthquake-induced rotational energy increase and the approx. 5 GigaW for the seismic energy release. Based on energetics considerations and assuming the inability of the Earth to build up elastic energy continuously over time, it is argued that earthquakes, by converting gravitational energy, may make a significant contribution to the global hedflow. 21. Vegetable and fruit production uses about 1/12 of the energy resources as meat production. Which means if your lost in the woods you'd be better off digging for roots and gathering berries nuts than fashioning a wabbit twap. If you think the Yangtzee is bad, apparantly their latest project the Three Gorges Dam (the worlds largest) will alter earths rotation once it's filled and lord knows what might happen should the dam fail (this is China after all)

    alcohol rehab

Coolchef most of the jail type treatment centers are poorly funded public detox centers that keep ya there for a few days at best. Most folks that don't have insurance opt for them cuz (oddly enough) they can't afford anything better. If a person has insurance (and providing their policy covers it) they usually go for a 30 - 60 day inhouse program with intensive follow up. Either way a person seeking help should plan on a serious follow up program of AA if they wish to maintain a solid program of sobriety. I work closely with folks coming out of treatment and its been my experience that alcoholism is a symptom of deeper issues (go figure we joined a cult). I wish anyone seeking deliverance from addiction freedom and serenity.
