You are correct.

I think a re-make was done, with the "boy" in question being black, though in the original he was Puerto Rican.

What does it mean to "pretend to use these quotes"?

So, are you up; or are you asking me to go again?

George

He was using hyperbole, a legitimate figure of speech. (It was not literally true-to-fact.)  He could have said "Don't even think about posting those quotes" and carried the same (non-literal) meaning.

It's his turn, but if you have another, he probably won't mind if you go again.

One of my all time favorites:

"We have a few special years with our children, when they're the ones that want us around. After that you're going to be running after them for a bit of attention. It's so fast Peter. It's a few years, and it's over. And you are not being careful. And you are missing it."

***

"When are you gonna stop acting like a child."

"I am a child."

"Grow up."

Did Talk-To-Text fail you on that one? because if it did, yeah, that would be another quote from the same movie.

To which I would respond, "Hit him back!"

If it's not a talk to text fail, then no, the movie has nothing to do with a chemistry teacher.

"There is nothing more elusive than an obvious fact."

"Whatever he was working on, he obviously succeeded."

"How do you know?"

"Otherwise, he'd still be alive."

"Well, I may not have a choice, hm? After all, I may be paying the rent on my own, soon.  Thanks to you."

"Get that out of my face."

"It's not in your face, it's in my hand."

"Get what's in your hand out of my face."

"More importantly, let's see what he was trying to dispose of."

"Now, by the looks of things, you're between jobs."

"And you between husbands. How much did you get for the ring?"

"Oh, he was boring, and jealous, and he snored."

"Un moment, s'il vous plaît …

"Je ne suis pas pressé."

"Cours, petit lapin, cours."
"Avec plaisir."

I'm sure that's a Sherlock Holmes film, not because I've seen it, but because, when I was in college, my roommate read the exchange between Holmes and Watson which was the same as between you two.  :jump:

I don't remember which story it was, but I'll guess "The Seven Percent Solution."

George

The movie was  "Sherlock Holmes", (the Guy Ritchie version with SH and Dr W as action heroes.)    You said the answer, so I count that.

Translation (if this helps):

"Wait a moment, please."

"I'm not in  a hurry."

"Run little rabbit, run."

"With pleasure."

George

FYI- the scene where the guys come to steal the evidence, and call in the big French dude, 'Dredger", gave us these exchanges between SH and Dredger. Dredger was not in a hurry, and told SH to run.

SH was bothering Watson, who was planning on getting married- and thus would move out, meaning SH would need to pay the full rent.

Irene Adler was between husbands.

"That's not fair! They've got rocks! All we've got are these machine guns. Oh, mother of pearl, here comes another one!"

"I love to lurk. It's so me."

"Do you really think wearing black will make you a bad guy?"

"I'm wearing black! You just have on navy blue!" [shows their sleeves to compare] "See?"

"HOWARD! Why am I wearing navy blue?"

"I just thought it would look better on you..."

"And this just in. Scientists discover that Canadian bacon is ordinary ham."

"Shane!"

"Yes, sir?"

"Drinks on the house."

"Yes, sir."

"No, wait a second. Drinks are 50% off."

"Right."

"No, wait a second. Double the price of everything!"

"Yes, sir."
