Here’s an idea for the 1st of the the month...? :eusa_clap:

How ‘bout if the “powers that be” were to DELETE ALL previous GS posts from time immortal until today? That’s right, what would happen if we started all over, right from the beginning, fresh with no previous topics, threads, nothing? How would we start? New guide lines for a new time? No previous garbage to read through. A NEW Grease Spot, maybe all new avatars? Rewrite the constitution, set term limits...a new club.

What would be the result and who would be interested??

With all due respect... and with no offence intended towards you...

but...

If you don't like how things are going why not; (a) start threads about POSITIVE things rather than another thread about how crappy things are (IYO) and (b) maybe take some time off from the boards until things settle down a bit...

I'm NOT saying I want you to leave or anything of the sort - sometimes a break helps. It can get messy 'round here but if you don't call attention to it maybe it will go away - it usually does. Or the Mods make it so...

Peace.

And other warm-fuzzy crap.

p.s.

I'd be very upset to find the posts on the Harry Potter threads wiped out for a month - NO WAY - that can't happen!

For those who haven't noticed, Bumpy is a troll.

Feed it if you wish, but just be aware that you're feeding a troll.

Dear Jim,

First, please educate me as to the meaning of the term “troll”??

Did God inspire you to call both Larry and myself...”Trolls”, as I presume it’s not really something very nice? Was I a “troll” the last time we met as well?

When you read my thread opener, did I ever say I wanted to delete anything, or was I merely proposing an idea? Does it ever occur to some posters here, how they might be over-reacting to maybe just a simple conversational idea? Because, believe it or not, no malice was intended when I wrote it this morning! It was just something I thought was an interesting idea.

But if there is a point worth taking away from all of your responses, it might be how emotionally protective you are of “perceived threats” to Grease Spot. A certain measure of actual paranoia might be included in that equation. I am sorry if talking about possibilities upset some of you. That was never intended.

Now, please clue me in...what is a “troll”?

Although Larry and I have butted heads on other threads, he is not a troll. Neither is Bumpy.

I really don't understand why Bumpy's "what if" question has offended some of you to the point of name calling. It really seems kind of juvenile.

If you want to know the definition of an internet troll, click HERE.

So which one is Larry and which one is Bumpy?
<img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c7/John_Bauer_1915.jpg/256px-John_Bauer_1915.jpg" /img>
And no I don't believe either one is a troll.

Well, IMO Bumpy isn't a troll anyway.

He obviously instigated some lively discussion. Whether he'll consider any of it, who knows.

I believe the main point of most direct responses given to Bumpy's question is that people here believe it would NOT be a good idea to wipe the posts away once a month. And I agree with that.

And so do I Rocky. It just seemed that some people were getting awfully upset over a what-if kind of post.

You have to wait on any seconds on gravy 'cause I was a bit hungry this morning and ate it all. So does that make me a pig now? Or am I still a shark? Do they have pig sharks?

They dont have an "internet shark", I looked it up.

Ok I'm just a really hungry Tiger Shark.

Oh yeh, in answer to the threads actual topic, I dont think it would be a good idea either, I cant copy recipes that fast.

And one last thing before I go find lunch...Sharks eat Trolls we dont invite them to bisquits and gravy or accept birthday gifts from them.

So, my little friends are back. At least when they show their teeth, it’s not their breath that kills you. Be careful of meathead goats in sheep clothing, serving lousy meals.

It can be bad for the image of a cult-counter-cult website. That is, if image is important to the outside cult viewer? <_<

In any case, I never wanted to unwind the reel, no matter how surreal. It was just for fun, to start your day. But a little sad to see such a tough reaction when no ill will was intended.

But just maybe another example of how certain folks have staked their territory of entitlement...in the land of the grease spot. <_<

Oh I dunno, Bumpy. It seems the thread turned out fun - even if it didn't start out that way.

It may be that there is a language barrier, or a culture barrier, and what you think comes out as cute and funny just gets lost in translation.

Have a good weekend - but I'll take that wine too. ;)

I had that same thought.

You could always start a new board, one that would do that. Invite everyone to come to it and participate. See how it goes.
How would we start? New guide lines for a new time?

The benefit of another board to your suggestion would be that you could gather input, and give it a shot.

GS has very minor guide lines. GS mostly provides the space. Different forums divvy up the space to allow for organizing sharing and discussion.

The time and amount of participation is up to the users. The guide lines, such as they are, place some basic expectations on the use, not much more. As a result, discussion of all kinds takes place and doesn't follow a specific direction. The direction is determined by the users.

No previous garbage to read through.
If "garbage" is a euphimism for the amount of postings that take place, there's really no need. The fact that a lot of posts roll off over time to older pages reflects the interest in the threads, over time it ebbs and flows, ends, comes back up again, starts over. Using the Search feature allows for older stuff to be found. When the server space gets too packed, I'd assume a clean up and archiving can be done.

If "garbage" is a euphimism for trashy, useless posts or threads that have no value, that's a matter of opinion. One person's garbages, another person's treasure. I suspect by the sounds of it that you're suggesting guidelines that would clean everything out regardless. That doesn't make sense to me, then you lose everything. If the intent is to simply start over fresh, start a new board and do that. You don't need to destroy the one, to have the other.

A NEW Grease Spot, maybe all new avatars? Rewrite the constitution, set term limits...a new club.

Again, if GS appears like a club to you and you want a new one, start it. The 'Net's wide open.

<---------- makes really weird face as she pours her glass of wine in the sink and puts her glass in the dishwasher

Yeowza - that wine was really off. Do you suppose it was just the wine, or were the grapes bad beforehand?

Obviously you have never had her cooking! And what the heck is a "meathead goat"?
