The Living Truth Fellowship

January 28, 2010

Dear Blessed Believer,

OK, here we go—a new year of life and a new avenue of service (diakonia), aka "ministry." This is the first of many communications from me to you in regard to The Living Truth Fellowship, Ltd., which is the name that a nucleus of several dozen saints thought best to describe the organization we are starting. Though there are no limits in Christ, the state of Indiana requires the "Ltd" designation. As I stated in my December 27 letter, you will receive these for-now-monthly newsletters unless you tell me to get lost, which I have often done. Please forward this letter to anyone you think might want to read it, including those who do not have email. Within a few days, my new email address will be jal@tltf.org. All my jalces@aol.com emails will soon be forwarded there.

The name of our ministry contains an intentional double entendre. The Word of God is the truth (John 17:17), and because it contains the very life of God (Eph. 4:18), it is the living truth (John 6:63; Heb. 4:12). As such, the word "living" is an adjective. But God intends that His truth be practiced, that is, He wants us to make "living" a verb by being living epistles of His truth. In that sense, being "verbal" means more than just speaking the Word; it also means doing it.

As you know, most of our beloved brethren in the Body of Christ are hampered by a lack of knowledge of the truth, for which there is no substitute, and without which, truth cannot precisely be lived. But 1 Timothy 2:4 tells us that God wants each Christian to come unto a thoroughly applied knowledge (epignosis) of the truth. Our Father desires that we put His truth in our "inner parts" (Ps. 51:6) so that we might not sin against Him (Ps. 119:11). At the bottom line, it is always against God (and the Lord Jesus) that we sin (Ps. 51:4), but of course it is always a human being who bears the brunt of our self-centered actions.

God looks on the heart of each person, and He does not measure the quality of one's life by how much Bible he knows, but by how much knowledge of the truth he practices in his relationships, that is, how much of the heart of God does he manifest. We can objectively measure the quality of our lives by the quality of our relationships with people (Mark 12:28-31; 1 John 4:20 and 21). Many Christians who know only a little biblical truth are faithfully practicing what they know, and the Lord will reward them for that.

The Greek word for truth is aletheia, which means "that which is in accordance with fact or reality; that which actually is; that which is genuine and substantial; the revealed essence of something." That is, transparency, or "what you see is what you get." Biblically, the opposite of truthful living is "hypocrisy," which means there is a disparity between one's words and his actions. It is significant that several times in the KJV, a form of aletheia is translated "indeed," showing that one's deeds are to correspond with his words. In Greek, hupokritos means "wearing a mask" (see anupokritos in Rom. 12:9 ["without dissimulation"]; 1 Tim. 1:5 ["unfeigned"]; James 3:17 ["without hypocrisy"]—KJV). Our goal in The Living Truth Fellowship is to "GET REAL" with one another, and with all men. When we sign off, "Yours truly," we want that to mean something.

Jesus Christ is our supreme example. In John 17:17, he said: "your word is truth," and he had exerted a lifelong effort to learn it, as evidenced in Luke 4 when, with a kind of bowling motion, he unrolled a very lengthy scroll that had no verse numbers or paragraphs and quickly found the place in Isaiah 61:1 and 2 that we today designate with only a comma! But Jesus also LIVED the truth so flawlessly that he could say, I AM the truth (John 14:6). In other words, he BE true. And those are the two sides of the coin of truth, if you will: doctrinal and practical, propositional and relational. Without both sides, that coin won't spend, that is, people won't "buy" what we have to offer.

In what can be considered a focal verse for TLTF, Ephesians 4:15 contains a unique Greek construction found only elsewhere in Galatians 4:16, where the noun, "truth," is made into a verb. In every version I looked at, the translators put the verb "speaking" even though it is not in the text. Here is the NIV, for example:

Ephesians 4:15 and 16 (NIV)

(15) Instead, speaking the truth [aletheuo] in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

(16) From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

In the Greek text, the noun aletheia (truth) is made into a verb (aletheuo), and a more vivid rendering would be "truthing it," that is, living the truth by being true to truth. It is significant that "truthing it" looks to be the only way to grow up in Christ, and it would follow that those not living the truth are not growing. In this new (ad)venture, we will do our best to be true to truthso that in our segment of the Body of Christ, verse 16 will be a living reality.

Galatians 4:16 and 17 (NIV)

(16) Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth [aletheuo]?

(17) Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may be zealous for them.

Here we see that if you choose to be true to truth, you will be opposed by those who are not, and that often this will be due to their desire for power, control, and the praises of men. Of course, in conjunction with Satan's tactic of attacking truth tellers and accusing them of doing exactly what he himself does (as when the Pharisees told Jesus that he was the one who had Beelzebub), such people will always turn things around on you in that same way.

In the course of events these past few years, Elizabeth and I have identified a growing nucleus of brethren who have earned our trust, and who want to be involved in TLTF. These are people who love the Lord, love us, appreciate our joint ministry in the Body, and who will help us carry it out. Like we, they are determined to do it right. Biblically speaking, I don't think that means I do it on my own. The book of Acts shows a plurality of elders who, when they did it right, worked together in truth and love, and we will do our best to follow that pattern. We will not only project an appearance of accountability, but also act accordingly. Our goal is to live the living truth. What form of church governance we adopt is relevant, but the real issue is the posture of a man's heart toward God, and it must be available for one to stay true and honest in that regard.

We are in the process of organizing TLTF so as to give those of us involved in leadership the least chance to go astray. Nothing is yet set in stone, but our tentative plan is to have five Trustees, none of whom will be on salary or have a vested interest in climbing a corporate ladder. That means that I as the president will not be a Trustee or have an official vote, though I will sit on the Board and be at all Board meetings. My input will be highly valued, but I will have to trust the Trustees as to the final say on important ministry matters. As an added layer of input and accountability, we plan to also have a group of Elders who will function as an advisory council to the Trustees. You can rest assured that none of those who will be Trustees of Elders have a problem disagreeing with me. Neither does Elizabeth, whose depth of godly character is something I hope you have the opportunity to personally experience.

By the time I write to you next month, I hope to give you the names of our Trustees, Elders, and others working in some capacity. When I do, I will also give you the Commitment Statement to which we will hold one another accountable for the benefit of all we serve, so that we do not become hypocrites. We are already incorporated as a non-profit Indiana corporation, and we are working on our By-Laws. Perhaps by my next letter we will also have submitted our application for tax-exempt status.

We do have some world class "websters" (I just made up that word) working on our forthcoming website (www.TheLivingTruthFellowship.org), where you will find our Mission Statement and Statement of Beliefs. We also have our own YouTube channel, and we will let you know when those are functional. We'll be doing LOTS of new teachings on video, eventually including my three-hour overview of the administrations in Scripture and a new foundational class. Some excellent teachers have already offered their services to help with these projects.

Spirit & Truth Fellowship has given me permission to reproduce all the work I did from 1988-2008, so our website will have all the audiotapes I've done, as well as all the articles I've written in The Sower magazine and all those on the STF websites. We also plan to make available via online publishing the books I helped to write. In particular, I want to add a key chapter to Don't Blame God.

Yes, we will need money in order to do all that we have in mind and whatever else we think the Lord is leading us to do, which of course will include hiring some people to help do the work. Elizabeth and I would like to get an RV of some kind so that we can be out with you believers much of the time. Quite a few people who are receiving this letter have already asked me when they can start giving, and I should have more information about that in my next letter. As for my own personal financial situation, some brethren are sending me help for my currently "freelance" ministry, but I hope to receive a salary from TLTF once we get going and have the money for that. Remember that we are to give in response to a blessing, and that we are to sow our seed on good ground, as per the following verse:

Luke 8:15 (NIV)

But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

You may know that for the past nine years I have been earning most of my living by teaching an SAT prep course to deranged "yutes" here in Indianapolis, and I am committed to that through this school year, ending in May. I love the teaching part because not only do I get to be totally insane for 12 hours, but what I teach also helps the kids crush this important test. If you add up all the days I teach, it's only about five weeks a year (between mid-September and late May), and I'd like to continue doing that in order to earn extra income. What takes up most of my time is recruiting kids by phone, so I must find someone to do that if I am to get back to ministering on a full time basis. I'm about to put an ad in the paper, so please pray that the Lord sends me the right person.

Your prayers for Elizabeth and me, and those standing with us, are indispensable in helping the Lord do what he wants to do in regard to this new venture. It will be exciting to watch him stand with us all and give the increase as we work heartily unto him. Stay tuned…

Yours truly (and verbally),

John

NO!NO! NO! I don't know. . . so please enlighten me . . . who are these hampered idiots? Those who never had the misfortune to sit at VP's feet while watching Doggy Porn? What if you are the one who never understood a "knowledge of the truth" and are the one who has it A$ backward? If the results of your "knowledge" are any indication . . . there is a GOOD possibility this is the case. What is this. . ..your THIRD attempt at spreading your "knowledge"? What really has been the results so far?

We can objectively measure the quality of our lives by the quality of our relationships with people (Mark 12:28-31; 1 John 4:20 and 21).

Well, that does not bode well for you then . . . . or your "knowledge of the truth". Does it?

John, John hi old friend what you asking for my friend does God have your needs met my friend did not promise you. But you are asking me for a RV so you and Elizabeth can spend time in a RV.

Can you not stay with believers where you traveling too? Does not the word of God tell to take no through for what will eat or for where you will stay. Cannot God take of your needs or is not God big enough?

I try to Email you with the question “why do you need money” but was answer from you? I guess you say if do not get a RV God will take from this world. The only thing I know to is die unto an RV.

Because God has no RV for you maybe the serpent has one for you if you give up money by working to RV Dealer. Maybe it is like the story of Ananias and Sapphira and you can get RV like they receive.

Do you know the story in Acts or shall I tell about it and happen when want riches and not want to work for it. I guess I will end now with love and death as I add a holy kiss of life and death Roy.

As you know, most of our beloved brethren in the Body of Christ are hampered by a lack of knowledge of the truth,

I'll second Geisha on this one--NO I dont know-I really dont. Who are these people that youve been complaining about over and over nauseatingly as the entire basis of your life for 40 years?

The noncult christians that I know are all doing pretty good in their lives..

God looks on the heart of each person, and He does not measure the quality of one’s life by how much Bible he knows, but by how much knowledge of the truth he practices in his relationships, that is, how much of the heart of God does he manifest. We can objectively measure the quality of our lives by the quality of our relationships with people

Speaking of objective measurements---How many times have you been married again?

Youve blown off your primary relationship what twice now? and you want to lecture people on relationships? :biglaugh::mooner::anim-smile:

Guess what John --Your life speaks so loudly I dont really care what you think some obscure word means in sanskrit or hebrew, or greek or -especially if this exquisite knowledge leaves you still so completely dense that you'd break up with your wife because someone else had a DREAM about spiders-

are you kiddin me?

You can't really be serious can you?

Now you want to set yourself up yet AGAIN as someone who has the first clue about anything at all?

To me this is hilarious

If you ask me You should drop this whole ministry business and just get yourself a comedy show or a traveling sideshow act. the best part is you would Just have to be yourself --its full of all sorts of unintended humor. Your letters are like watching a really bizarre sideshow act that no one takes seriously but is amusing for how out there it is....

If you did that At least then it would be entertaining and you would be 'living truthfully'

...I think that JAL, in many ways, is the epitomization of what Vic did to people with his money scam cult. He should be put on a poster with the caption..."THIS COULD BE YOU"

When JAL first left twi he proclaimed something about leaving Egypt with the gold...what he should have said was that he was leaving the organization that screwed up his brain but he was keeping the screwed up brain...

The irony of you actually quoting this verse is not lost on me. If it wasn't so tragic and true. . . . . it would almost be funny.

Let us all be zealous for John as he has the "truth".

And as we know. . . the rest of Christianity. . . . well, they are, of course, just hapless.

Don't worry though. . . . John is getting a motor coach . . . . RV.

I pulled an interesting quote today from a website.

"Is it not too often the case that the whole life and worship of the congregation revolves round the personality of the minister? He is the one who is in the center; he offers the prayers of the congregation; he it is who mediates "truth" through his personality, and he it is who mediates between the people and God through conducting the worship entirely on his own. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the case of the popular minister where everything centers on him, and the whole life of the congregation is built round him. What is that but Protestant sacerdotalism, sacerdotalism which involves the displacement of the Humanity of Christ by the humanity of the minister, and the obscuring of the Person of Christ by the personality of the minister? How extraordinary that Protestantism should thus develop a new sacerdotalism, to be sure a psychological rather than a sacramental sacerdotalism, but a sacerdotalism nonetheless, in which it is the personality of the minister which both mediates the Word of God to man and mediates the worship of man to God! Protestant Churches are full of these "psychological priests" and more and more they evolve a psychological cult and develop a form of psychological counseling which displaces the truly pastoral ministry of Christ. How frequently, for example, the minister's prayers are so crammed with his own personality (with all its boring idiosyncrasies!) that the worshipper cannot get past him in order to worship God in the name of Christ — but is forced to worship God in the name of the minister! How frequently the sermon is not an exposition of the Word of God but an exposition of the minister's own views on this or that subject! And how frequently the whole life of the congregation is so built up on the personality of the minister that when he goes the congregation all but collapses or dwindles away!"

Unfortunately, most of the people who departed from TWI to start their own thing, did not take away just how personality-based the whole TWI thing was and continues to be.

Perhaps he should heed the words of John Robinson when he said:

"Brethren, we are now erelong to part asunder, and the Lord knoweth whether I shall live ever to see your faces more; but whether the Lord hath appointed that or not, I charge you before God and His blessed angels to follow me no farther than I have followed Christ. If God should reveal anything to you by any other instrument of His, be as ready to receive it as you ever were to receive any truth by my ministry; for I am very confident that the Lord hath more truth and light yet to break forth out of His Holy Word. For my part, I cannot sufficiently bewail the condition of the Reformed churches, who are come to a period in religion, and will go no farther than the instruments of their reformation. The Lutherans cannot be drawn to go any farther than what Luther saw, and the Calvinists, you see, stick fast where they were left by that great man of God, who yet saw not all things. This is a misery much to be lamented; for though they were burning and shining lights in their time, yet they penetrated not into the whole counsel of God, but were they now living, would be as willing to embrace further light as that which they first received.

I think that if you think you already have the truth, that you stop looking.

That same ego ... look, we know the Greek word for this or that ... therefore, we have more of the truth than anyone else.

ah...no, not exactly. Not what you know, but what you live. Show us your faith, John, without your works...faith without works is useless.

Truthfully, John, how many works greater than Jesus have you done? How many have you raised from the dead, healed from long term illnesses, how many have you fed from the crumbs on a plate at the functions you speak at? If any of these are verifiable, then show...then you won't be able to keep people away.

And someone will donate an RV just because they want to - not because you need to beg for it.

(Now that sort of thing I have seen, people getting real needs met. And having vehicles donated to them.)

And I've seen some of those "below-par Christians" live through difficult times and come out with miraculous results where all they have prayed for has been met, way above all they could ask or think.

Otherwise, John, TLTF is just another talking shop.

Try giving it all away, John, not trying to accumulate it. Remember, "you can't outgive God."

why recruit "kids"?

A few questions..

who are these "kids"? "Recruiting" would seem to me the jl initiated the call..

what happened to his stance about "if love, care and worship da *word* *I* represent, along with the ground I walk on, call ME.."

could it be.. he didn't get any calls?

I didn't give him any of my kids phone numbers.. or their friends..

where did he get the phone numbers? I really don't think people around here are exactly busy emailing him their kids and neighbors kids phone numbers.. so who is he calling?

There are only a few possibilities I can think of..

maybe they are "kids" from ces.. "hi. I'm jl. I am offering a unique(?) hopefully non-boring alternative to stiffi.."

or did he just pick up the phone book.. start calling. "hi. I'm j.l. do you have any kids? Oh. how nice.. and how old..

can I talk to them for a minute?"

or.. is he bothering kids who took his sat prep thingy?

the last two alternatives would be rather "creepy" at least to me..

But if he is that busy.. sooooooo much time on the phone trying to "recruit".. I would say there have been HUNDREDS of phone calls, and hundreds more to come..

then again, maybe he is exaggerating..

That's his paying job. He recruits kids to take the SAT class.

Now that might be a legitimate reason to make a call.

It seems though.. wouldn't it TROUBLING to a parent to have a telemarketer target their underage child? Seems he would have to recruit in a non-threatening and minimally obnoxious manner..

but to recruit to build a church? target kids?

whats with that?

Unless he considers "kids" to be under forty..

Geisha is right .

If JAL wants to make it about relationships well then HELLO come on your track record sucks.

It appears that when your relationships disagree with you, YOU give an ultimatum of your way or the highway. this is healthy relationship? that is not transparency it is being a bully.

Even Elizabeth was left high and dry until YOU decided she was worthy after your other relationships turned wicked bad and sour.

So she took you back after a divorce and NOW has permission to disagree with you! I bet she does! haha

JAL you speak of your sat thing as extra income you teach a total of 5 weeks a year? ya know I really do not think you have a clue what it means to have a real job in which you have to be accountable and show up every darn day whether you can reschedule the "kids" for a better time or not.

or something bad happens like NO income. that has never happened to you has it?

you bet it is about the money wanna go?

and about being hypocrits Im tired of christians using the hypocrit card I really am, the day will come has been here already plenty when that finger will be in your face JOHN.

bad move. all sin and fall short.

yet with you as long as you play the grace card when it comes to your crap and really really believe it is all about grace anyways like you do what the hell difference does any of the bible verses make ?

that is why the administration are always on your list of priorities because you can prove it is the grace administration now when you need to. and that is what is most important to you!

well for me I like to change my behaviours to be a better person for God and for people and for me. it is more difficult .

Repent.

give a sermon on that, please.

without the grace and who likes who game.

it cant hurt to have another bible ministry , go for it. at the end of all this if it is true and we will all see Jesus face to face I believe it will be the PERSONAL walk we held with HIM not the group of people one can amass while speaking anything .

God gives the increase JAL not YOU.
