if there is anything you could say here, without recrimination (or incrimination).. what would it be..

well. technically, without incriminating yourself..

"I was a blowhard.. a schmuck.. deceived.. a stooge.. a witting or unwitting enabler of ungodliness.. "

I would claim all of the above..

what's really wrong with the end of the world?

but really.. what will you say when you are confronted with that little spot in existence.. that no excuses will allow you to pass..

Emerson Lake and Palmer once had a nice song describing this..

I would say it was a lesson in forgiveness by way of a peice of stupidity. I learned to forgive my parents, myself, and my husband for being involved. And I learned I was completely capable of doing terrible things to others. Quite a lesson in humility.

so we were all mindless brutes..

it doesn't shock me.. surprise me. Or scare me..

I figure whatever judgment or karma or whatever it is..

I've spent the last ten years or so, trying not to be the same, brutish, primitive bastard..

well, in real life here.

Yep, that sounds like Saint Vic's demented circus. From the "Is that all there is?":

And when I was twelve years old

My daddy took me to the circus

The greatest show on earth

And there were clowns

And elephants

Dancing bears,

And a beautiful lady in pink tights flew high above our heads

And as I sat there watching

I had the feeling that something was missing

I don't know what

But when it was all over

I said to myself

" Is that all there is to the circus ? "

She also offer ssome good advice:

If that's all there is, my friends, then let's keep dancing

Let's break out the booze and have a ball

SoCrates

a lot of people deal with "the end of the world" in a few different ways..

the vampires get careless. Well some..

I mean, if its the end of the world.. who cares if one leaves a blood trail..

and that's the kicker. It just might NOT be the end of the world..

All of thee above, and more. I was mean-spirited, petty, and I thought I was God's gift to Himself. The good news is....I have lost some of the fruit of the "spirit" cultivated during my tenure in TWI ....at least a little bit. :)

End of the world? Naaah that is next year...2012

The end of the world stuff and Judgment Day stuff do tend to get mixed together.

Karma may be the best man can envision - what goes around comes around, you will get what's coming to you, as you give so shall you receive, treat others as you would be treated, the love you make is equal to the love you take, that sort of thing.

I frequently appeal to myself and others from that perspective as I think it helps to keep us clear on the possibilities. If I DO give as I get and get as I give there's no real surprises. And life does tend to progress in the temporal plane that way, day to day, pret' near, more or less.

Christianity is based on a different platform - "grace".

Grace is a powerful concept, idea, ideal, and the results of it when applied are different than a karmic approach. Grace as taught by Jesus (who also taught the other give/receive too) and then by His followers later allows for the seemingly impossible things they attempted and taught - forgive others, give without measuring for a response, love without ceasing, etc. .

One might say life is fine, for them - another life is terrible, for them - and in all the state of humanity is what it is and it will produce good and bad, right and wrong, etc. etc.

"Mercy, grace and peace" to us all, indeed. It's a different view and one that I believe is found in many non-Christian religions, at their highest form.

Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) wrote a great song that has some of this idea in it - push comes to shove, at the end of whatever and while I'm going there, it's a nice thought.

"Love and Mercy"

I was sittin' in a crummy movie

With my hands on my chin

all the violence that occurs

Seems like we never win

Love and mercy that's what you need tonight

Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

I was lying in my room

And the news came on TV

A lotta people out there hurtin'

And it really scares me

Love and mercy that's what you need tonight

Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

I was standing in a bar

And watching all the people there

Oh the loneliness in this world

Well it's just not fair

Love and mercy that's what we need tonight

Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight
