Ok, obscure shows again. Name any one of them to take the round.

These are all shows produced by AP Films/APF/Century 21 Productions

(or what came after.)

A) Joe Mc Clane is a young British boy. His father is a computer scientist

who invents BIG RAT- a computer that can record and reproduce the

knowledge and experience of a person. Joe joins his Dad in his work

for the World Intelligence Network as its "Most Special Agent."

This show was filmed almost entirely with puppet actors.

B) This vertical takeoff and landing craft could fly in the air, maneuver

on water, and travel over road on a cushion of air-but did not travel

on wheels. Mike Mercury was its pilot. Rudolph Popkiss and Horatio

Beaker invented it. It was stored in Black Rock, Nevada.

A US comic book briefly adapted this show.

This show was filmed entirely with puppet actors AFAIK.

C) Set between the years 2062 and 2063, the series featured the missions

of a spaceship which was commanded by Colonel Steve Zodiac of the World Space Patrol.

The crew included: Doctor Venus, ; navigator and engineer Professor Matthew Matic

and co-pilot Robert, a transparent robot. The winged nose cone split off to become

the landing craft.

This show was filmed entirely with puppet actors AFAIK.

D) This was a highly sophisticated combat submarine built for speed and manoeuvrability.

It was the flag vessel of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASP). The crew gained

an ally/ companion in an amphibious humanoid female named Marina.

Again, this was a puppets show.

E) Zero-X gains a valuable agent in their attempts to save the Earth from the

intelligent computers hidden on Mars when one of their agents becomes effectively

immortal due to their interference and attempts to make a copy of him they could control.

Another puppets show.

F) Father Stanley Unwin, parish priest, secretly works for BISHOP, a covert branch

of British Intelligence. He can also be shrunk down to make recon easier.

This show mixed puppets with humans depending upon the moment in filming.

G) Earth is being secretly visited by aliens- partly to facilitate their harvesting

of human organs as replacement parts for them. Good thing that SHADO is

secretly working to covertly learn about them and counter them.

This show was live and was targeted at adults.

It was also the inspiration for a live series made at the end of its run.

That's because Dad's recordings can be transferred and used so long as

the recipient wears special glasses that contain the contacts for the

recording. So, a child can show up with a decade of experience in

almost anything.

This show was filmed almost entirely with puppet actors.

B) This vertical takeoff and landing craft could fly in the air, maneuver

on wheels. Mike Mercury was its pilot. Rudolph Popkiss and Horatio

The crew included: Doctor Venus, ; navigator and engineer Professor Matthew Matic

and co-pilot Robert, a transparent robot. The winged nose cone split off to become

the landing craft. Although inspired by space opera, it was decidedly LESS realistic

in its "science", with things like "oxygen pills" for survival in space. The name of

the show was partly inspired by the name of "Castrol XL."

E) Zero-X gains a valuable agent in their attempts to save the Earth from the

intelligent computers hidden on Mars-the Mysterons- when one of their agents becomes effectively

immortal due to their interference and attempts to make a copy of him they could control.

Like their other agents, he seems to be referred to with a color as a name.

Another puppets show-

although the remake decades later was a computer-generated cartoon.

The whole "secret base under a movie studio" thing worked very well.

This show was live and was targeted at adults.

It was also the inspiration for a live series made at the end of its run.

Nobody ever came up with a definitive explanation as to why women on the

moonbases wore mauve or purple wigs, silver catsuits, and extensive eye

make-up.

Nobody ever came up with a definitive explanation as to why women on the

moonbases wore mauve or purple wigs, silver catsuits, and extensive eye

make-up.

Its second season was supposed to take place mostly on the moonbases, but the

network got nervous at wobbly ratings and refused to greenlight the second

season, leaving the production crew with plenty of moonbase set material.

H) This show was conceived when the producer of a previous show ended up

with a public that liked moonbase scenes, and he had set material made up for

moonbase scenes, and no show to put them on. So he pitched the concept

for a new show, one which takes place almost entirely on a moonbase.

Naturally, he needed to come up with a reason to not film Earth scenes

before he pitched the show...

With the exception of "Secret Service", all of these shows have episodes

currently on YT, so you can check them out right now.

(Since they're British shows and not US shows, the companies are not

quite as fast at having them deleted from the site.)

I remember watching "Stingray" and "Fireball XL-5." (Incidentally, did you know that Castrol got its name from the fact that castor oil was an early motor lubricant?)

The star of this show played a similar role in an early Tom Cruise film.

The opening theme is performed by the Iowa State Cyclone Marching Band, who won the right to do so by winning a national contest.

"The Kitchen sink"

"The Johnny B. Goode"

""Southwestern Exposure"

"Adam Emmenecker"

"Leg of the Beast Feast"

"The Sasquatch"

Let's move on. I know you guys like this thread so........... moving on

This brief series was created by the same producers/creators of Get Smart and The Carol Burnett show who quit their jobs to produce the show. Extraordinary for the time it had a seven figure budget that featured location filming, laborious staging and props and made flashy, colorful costumes and elaborate car chase scenes.

I'm having trouble juxtaposing colorful costumes and car chases.

George

Glad you asked, George the other shows clues were food challenges on Travel Channels hit show

Man vs Food.

I've got more clues for you. The costumes were bright and colorful. Hippie like.

Chase scenes often included a Rolls Royce.

OK. I got a couple more clues here. According to Wikipedia the show owed much homage to "Get Smart" incorporating laughter as it's chief plot. Like Get Smart the series had a spy organization and a rival enemy organization.

There was a band that dressed in hippie style wigs and colorful wardrobes. Their song lyrics were believed to carry secret messages to those in the spy organization.

Now run with it. rolleyes.gif

One more clue then. A quote actually, from this tv show. "What's your theory, Darwin"?

A TV series from the early 70's Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp was about a member of the pop band Evolution Revolution played by a chimpanzee named Lancelot Link. He was a secret agent working for A.P.E the Agency to Prevent Evil. The evil organization CHUMP Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan were the bad chimps. Every week Ed Simian (ED Sullivan) introduced the band Evolution Revolution who played a new song followed by a 12 minute episode. Pretty nerdy and yet strangely entertaining.<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/CSqFOalLgaM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>Some one else take a turn. In a WordWolf-style challenge, I'll give hints to a few short-lived TV series. Get any one, and you're the winner.

In 1960s America, a young couple struggle to expose the truth about a hidden alien invasion, while a secret government organization follows its own agenda in dealing with the threat. Featured a pre-Voyager Jeri Ryan. (1 season)

The year is 2045, and a highly addictive computer-based reality drug takes the users of the drug into a fantasy world. Jake Cardigan, a cop who was jailed on trumped charges, is hired by the mysterious Walter Bascom to fight the drug. Jake's first partner was Sid Gomez who was replaced by sexy Sam Houston; Nika is a computer wiz who works for Bascom; Cowgirl and Spaz are two "cyberpunks"; and Shelley Grout is a government agent trying to stop Jake. (1 season, though over three years)

After spending years in the Peruvian jungle during his tour in Army Special Forces, Cascade PD Detective James Ellison developed hyperactive senses, which came back to him five years after his return to the US. He can see people in darkened windows at night from two hundred yards, hear the music playing on the radio of the car he's chasing after he's lost sight of it, and can distinguish between wood and plastic after both have been in a three thousand degree fire. (4 seasons)

A computer technician for the NSA secretly longs for a chance to work on the field. Circumstance puts him in a top secret laboratory, in the middle of a shootout between security guards and a saboteur. During the battle, a vial containing an experimental serum explodes, covering the technician with shrapnel. But it turns out that the serum is actually nanomites, microscopic submachines that heal his injuries and alter his body. Upon discovering his new mind-boggling powers, the technician begins to operate at an atomic level, possessing superhuman strength, lightning-fast speed, heightened hearing, magnified vision and the ability to communicate telepathically with computers. The NSA soon realizes that he is an untested asset and forms a Special Ops team with him at its core. (1 season)

After witnessing the destruction of the Earth from orbit, a group of astronauts is sent back in time and given 5 years to prevent the disaster from happening. (1 season)

I'm officially out of the loop. None of these ring a bell. The last one about the astronauts going back in time to save earth reminds me of a story arc in that Star Trek series- Enterprise ?- that lasted a season. I remember becoming interested that year, where I was bored before.

Actually, "Enterprise" lasted four seasons. The last was quite good, but by that time the show had lost its audience.

It is not one of the shows in this challenge.
