Merry Christmas - Things I'm Thankful For

Hi everybody!

Just thought I'd start a thread for Christmas greetings even though they are sprinkled in everywhere else!

And I'd thought I'd start a list of things I'm thankful for now that I'm not in TWI!!!!!

1. Only meetings with family - no mandatory fellowship schedules with redundant teachings mimicking the STS

through the holidays!!!

2. No 24 hours of prayer for BOD or praying in the new year sitting in someone's parlor bored to tears.

3. No Sunday Teaching Service!!!! A little less sleep, but I'll make up for it elsewhere.

3. More money for gifts for people I really care about and funds for helping causes that really matter now that

I'm not subsidizing sycophants on a farm.

4. No artificial friends!!! And if I do pick up one or two I'm not obligated to spend time with them because they

are labeled "in the household".

5. I'm not a nomad!!!!

6. No redundant classes!!!!

7. No turning in schedules for someone to "evaluate" how I spend my free time.

8. I can own a house!!!! Yes I realize that I don't really own it the bank does but I pay a mortgage. Somehow

that's still OK. It doesn't feel any different than renting, except now I deduct the interest payments on my

mortgage from my taxes rather than my landlord doing this.

9. Adultery and plagiarism can now just be wrong as opposed to being wrong only for non-leadership people in

the TWI caste system.

10. If some crackpot shows up with a story of snow on a gas pump or a set of tablets that an angel named "moron" in

Italian dictated to them, they can just be a crackpot as opposed to "The Man of God for Our Day and Time".

Thankful For ...

I can think for myself out loud, and it doesn't have to line up with what the MOG said!

I can be WRONG and yet not receive the wrath of Mr. god on a stick.

Actually have a career and develop a skill I choose, instead of where placements figured they needed some man power.

1. I can now say Merry Christmas instead of "Ho Ho Day"

2. I can have gay friends and not be to a cult that thinks they should die.

3. I have a wonderful spouse and son. :) Neither of which has to go to "fellowship." My sons childhood will be about 100 yikes better for it. This should have been #1 but I'm too lazy to retype this.

4. I can use the word "creative" without someone telling me "only god can create."

5. I don't have to "abundantly share" - I can give what I want when I want.

6. I can go to different churches and not act/think like a smug douche know-it-all.

Happy New Year everyone!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Easter all around!

(For those who want to get in early on that last one.)

It's nice to not have to censor our speech or thinking, or have

to buy into any lockstep thinking like in twi. Out in the world,

minority viewpoints are still accepted- at least among the

over-25 population who are old enough to know their POV isn't

the only one in the world.

I guess Waysider is thankful that he doesn't have to worry about not thinking evil.

OK, that's attempt #2 at dragging down this thread. Only this time, you decided to give me a backhanded slap in the process. Don't do that again. If you want to participate in this thread, simply stick to the subject and leave personal slams out of the content.

I'm so thankful that I'm free. I don't have to walk between the lines, so to speak. I don't have to eat frozen fruit for breakfast on a bleak cold February morning. I can wear a cross if I want to. (gasp!) I can go shopping alone. My Wednesday evenings are my own. I know you've figured out where I'm going with this.

Happy New Year.

My wife went wow in 1986 after being in the word for 10 years. She got seriously reproved for the sin of saying the word 'Christmas' by her been in the word less than a year family coordinator. Probably a common occurrence. I recall LCM actually saying bet you didn't know Christmas and Easter were cuss words at some point. I'm thankful I don't have to put up with that anymore.

Waysider you don't usually lash out like that. What's going on?

What's going on is that you made it sound like you were saying

that people HERE were saying something like that Christmas and

Easter were cuss words. Apparently, that isn't what you meant to say,

but it looked like that to me, and probably to Waysider.

Neither word, of course, was a cuss word. I've read that "Estre"

was a pagan holiday, but not that it was a cuss word, whether to

the pagans or to the Christians who co-opted it.

lcm was fond of making up the most peculiar explanations for words

out of whole cloth. He claimed "Christmas" was named for the

"Christ MASSACRE", the killing of the children by Herod in the

attempt to kill Jesus in the process. He also responded to

"Merry Christmas" with "Happy Kill-Christ Day to you, too."

Anyone familiar with other holidays could see he was way off base

when there's Michaelmas, Candlemas, and so on, named after the

MASS celebrated on that particular "holy day."

I think we're all glad to be free of lcm at every level, now.

Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't assume that everybody here remembers stuff the same way, but you guys are pretty acute with the tabloid type stuff of twi. LCM once repeated at a sns fellowship "merry Christ is dead, merry Christ is dead". He once got mad because all the days of the week and the months were named after pagan gods like he thought God had commissioned him to save Christianity from the world and God would back him up with signs and wonders or something. Kinda reminds me of what happened to Nebuchadnezzar.

But I am thankful for the Christmas holiday. In my family we did something different this year. Usually on Christmas day we'd have ham, mashed potatoes, and other goodies (made by me) but this year we ate at a restaurant. I was surprised how many places were open Christmas day. The Lumierre Place casino on the river had an all day buffet 25 dollars per person. We considered going there and I'm sure whatsoever our souls lusted for we could have eaten there, but instead we went to a Holiday Inn's restaurant. Good food, not crowded, and not too expensive. Everybody was happy. Maybe I'm old enough and lazy enough not to want to mess with cleanup.

yeah he wigged out pretty bad towards the end. I don't remember everything he ever taught, thankfully. I do have far worse examples, and the smaller the group the wackier it got pretty much.

Sounds like some fun. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year !!!! :jump:

I had totally forgot about the cross! I had gotten one when I was younger because I thought it looked nice. Oh my god, how many times did I get chewed out for it?

I have a cross on my name badge at work now and no one says anything. Wonderful. :)
