About Reproof

Danny hit the nail on the head. Twi totally misused "reproof". It became a component of control. Reproof was to the twi hierarchy, what bullets are to a soldier. It was their excuse for telling people what to do and to delve into their personal lives. They used it as a weapon against people. Egomaniacs used it to justify their "spiritual supiority", Meanspirited leaders used it to humiliate and hurt others, it was THEE excuse for telling others what to do.

"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual restore such an one, in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted".

spirit of meekness? Never saw it from twi leaders. They were too busy trying to rip you a new a$$hole. Besides that..."ye which are spiritual"...that just disqualified the whole bunch of em as far as I'm concerned. My advice to anybody who is approached by a twi leader with "reproof"...knock them down on the ground and put the boots to em'.

Clearly reproof as practiced in the Way was on very rare occasion used correctly or even reproof biblically. It was used as a means to terrorize, control, and inflict hurt upon many loving people. Vague useage of scripture spun out of control with personal philosophy was often the norm.

That said I wonder though do we really want to start throwing out words that People misused. Isn't that a little arrogant to tell God that we don't like his choice of words, and that He really sucks at communication skills. But Hey well fix it with a new word for Him. Take for instance love, now what some people call loving, others call abuse. If someone says they love you while they beat the s**t out of you. Do we just think of a new word for love. What if people misuse money given for the work of God? Do we just dispose of giving? Who decides what to keep or change? And what will be left?

Wouldn't it make more sense to understand what reproof is and then use it correctly rather than toss out words people have misused.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine (1319), for reproof (1650).............

Romans 15:4

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning (1319)

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence (1650) of things not seen.

How does this sound:

"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our "doctrine"."

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the "reproof" of things not seen."

Doctrine and learning are the same greek word.

Reproof and evidence are the same greek word.
