Pretty little girl you're just having fun
You're running all around and breaking lover's hearts
Pretty little girl, I don't stand a chance
Without any money there goes our romance

She always wears charms, diamonds, pearls galore
She buys them at the five and ten cents store
She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor
Even though she's the girl next door

Broke my heart
We're apart
Thinks she's smart

I met a girl a month ago
I thought that she would love me so
But in time I realized
She had a pair of roving eyes

Pretty little girl, I don't stand a chance
Without any money there goes our romance

Here are all teh lyrics except those with the title:

Broke my heart
We're apart
Thinks she's smart

I met a girl a month ago
I thought that she would love me so
But in time I realized
She had a pair of roving eyes

I remember the nights we dated
Always acting sophisticated
Talking about high society
Oh then she tried to make a fool out of me

Broke my heart now
Thinks she's smart now
We're apart now

Pretty little girl you're just having fun
You're running all around and breaking lover's hearts
Pretty little girl, I don't stand a chance
Without any money there goes our romance

She always wears charms, diamonds, pearls galore
She buys them at the five and ten cents store
She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor
Even though she's the girl next door

OK, fine.

Donna the Prima Donna by Dion (and the Belmonts?)

Whenever I heard this line: She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor

I always thought it was She walks the beaches like Zsa Zsa Gabor.

When I sing it in karaoke, it's She slaps policemen like Zsa Zsa Gabor.  :biglaugh:

FREE POST.

Yeah, but those haven't gotten a lot of airplay in my generation. His last hit was "King of the New York Streets," so I know that one, along with "the Wanderer."  I'd recognize "Runaround Sue" or "Teenager in Love" but only when hearing the name in the lyrics.

The song would definitely be obscure to someone who hadn't heard it much before and since you weren't part of that generation WordWolf  I get it.  I just listened to it before I posted and I've definitely heard the song many times and even though I never knew the artist who sang it I know the song but I never paid attention to the lyrics.  And that is why I never would have gotten this one.  I'm a Baby Boomer.  What can I say.  I know most songs from the 60s' like the back of my hand.

Let's see if you guys know this one.

It's a lesson to me, the eagles and the beggars and the seas
The ABC's, we all must face try to keep a little grace

It's a lesson to me, the deltas and the east and the freeze
The ABC's, we all think of and try to win a little love

You've left me in the dark, but I will get by.

I think all you need is a little more lyrics.

It's a lesson to me, the deltas and the east and the freeze
The ABC's, we all think of and try to win a little love

I know the rent is in arrears the dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears but it's alright
Cows givin' kerosene, kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene but it's alright

This is the Grateful Dead's "Touch of Grey".  their first commercial hit off of "In The Dark."
"Oh, well, a touch of grey kind of suits you anyway. That was all I have to say, but, it's all right.  I will get by."

The music video (they did a music video)  was neat- they were playing in a concert, and the band was swapped out for skeletons dressed as the band, playing the instruments.  They loved the video, and didn't mind that it was possible to see the rigging to animate the skeletons.   This album introduced a different generation to the Grateful Dead, and was a commercial success.  (It was followed by an album that wasn't quite as successful, but had at least two hits-  "Foolish Heart" and "Shakedown Street." )

"Touch of Grey" was the only top 20 hit for The Grateful Dead reaching number 15 on the billboard charts.   I figured you would get this WordWolf.  The first album I ever bought was The Grateful Dead's "Workingman's Dead".

Ok, next song.

"Ha-ha! I was in the right!"
"Yes, absolutely in the right!"
"I certainly was in the right!"
"Yeah, I was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a bruising!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"Yeah!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him it was in, he could get it in Number Two. He was asking why it wasn't coming up on freight eleven. After, I was yelling and screaming and telling him why it wasn't coming up on freight eleven. It came to a heavy blow, which sorted the matter out."

This doesn't sound like a tune, more like a film line.  Either way, I'm not sure if I know this.

Keep in mind that even words spoken during a song are part of the lyrics.  As you can see, sometimes that can include quite a lot that doesn't sound like a normal "song."    You've heard this song before, I'm sure.
