Name that Tune

When it's completely obvious to me I have no chance to recognize the song and artist, it's no loss to disqualify myself by looking it up.  I wouldn't have the answer if you posted the entire lyrics and the artist's initials.  Seriously, I've never heard this.  And I used to listen to Top 40 until Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" started playing hourly- and I quit top 40 cold turkey and listened to rock stations exclusively from that point on.   (No, this is not any kind of clue.)

No big deal.  I didn't know what the artist's name was until I posted the song.  I did however, listen to Thunder Island  by Jay Ferguson a few  hundred times over the radio, walking through the malls, or the local Safeway.  Clearly not a very successful artist (We've never heard of him until now) although the album of the same name was a commercial success.

Give me a few and post another one.

WordWolf I'm afraid you might have to look this one up again.  Sorry about that.  George I don't know if you're familiar with it either.

You know I need your love, you got that hold over me
Long as I got your love, you know that I'll never leave
When I wanted you to share my life, I had no doubt in my mind
And it's been you, woman,

I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything I could never say before
Yeah, this is my way
Of telling you that every day I'm loving you so much more

Let's try another one instead.

Looking at the world through the sunset in your eyes
Traveling the train through clear Moroccan skies
Ducks and pigs and chickens call
Animal carpet wall to wall
American ladies five-foot tall in blue

Sweeping cobwebs from the edges of my mind
Had to get away to see what we could find
Hope the days that lie ahead
Bring us back to where they've led
Listen not to what's been said to you

Let's see if I can get your wheels spinning in the right direction.  This song was first played live by a Super Group at the Woodstock Music festival.  The Super Group has played it over 450 times `live' so says the Wiki source.

So now you know the era and with a little guess work you can minimize it down to a few groups.

All aboard the train, all aboard the train

I've been saving all my money just to take you there
I smell the garden in your hair

Take the train from Casablanca going south
Blowing smoke rings from the corners of my mouth
Colored cottons hang in the air
Charming cobras in the square
Striped djellebas we can wear at home Well, let me hear you now

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the [song title]
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the [song title]
They're taking me to [title]

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the [song title]
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the [song title]

All on board the train, all on board the train
All on board

"Don't you know we're riding, on theMarrakech Express? Don't you know we're riding on the Marrakech Express?  They're taking me to Marrakech. All aboard, that train! All aboard, that train!"   (My guess on the band would have been CSN/Y.)

Now I have to sit down and listen to the whole song.  The lyrics are a lot more interesting than the chorus.

You got it right WordWolf.  Marrakesh Express was released in May of 1969 and was the first album by Crosby, Stills, and Nash.  The song was written by Graham Nash while he was in The Hollies, but they (Hollies) felt the song was not commercial enough, so they passed on it.  Neil Young had not gotten together with CSN until the second night of Woodstock and didn't play in their first set which was acoustical on the first night.  The following day (night, 3:00am)  Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young played an electric set.

Next song.

"Everybody else is just green,
Have you seen the chart?
It's a hell of a start,
It could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team."

"We're just knocked out.
We heard about the sell out.
You gotta get an album out,
You owe it to the people.
We're so happy we can hardly count."

"And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

We're just knocked out.
We heard about the sell out.
You gotta get an album out,
You owe it to the people.
We're so happy we can hardly count.

Everybody else is just green,

If we all pull together as a team.

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train."

Sorry.  Not familiar.

George

It's a classic rock song, from a well-known classic rock band, and it still get airplay to this day.

"Well, I've always had a deep respect,
And I mean that most sincerely.
The band is just fantastic,
That is really what I think.
Oh, and by the way, which one's 'Pink'?

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

We're just knocked out.
We heard about the sell out.
You gotta get an album out,
You owe it to the people.

I saw this two days ago but I didn't have time to post.  I did think enough however, to throw Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd in the car on my out to see my tax man.  The songs' Have A Cigar.   Personally, its my favorite PF album.  The sounds from the instrumentals give me chills every time I hear them.

It is indeed "HAVE A CIGAR,", from PINK FLOYD.     I really like the little clue that the promoter or whoever has never heard of them before and doesn't know where the name "Pink Floyd" comes from, but is enthusiastic to say he's a long-time fan while trying to get them to generate more cash.

I've had nothing but bad luck
Since the day I saw the cat at my door
So I came into you sweet lady
Answering your mystical call

Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
And I knew it was a spell she cast
