  1. Okay, here's the deal. Since there was no real way to give my old computer more memory, I purchased a new one, loaded with Windows 7. The guys at Best Buy were supposed to put my old hard drive in a new case and transfer data to the new computer. They did the former but not the latter.

I loaded Office 2010 Home and Business, because I like Outlook as a mail device. What I need to do now is to transfer my old e-mails and contacts from the old hard drive to my new computer. Since I had Windows XP on the old computer, I had Outlook Express, not Outlook. I presume that the file formats are the same.

Any ideas how to do this? I suppose I can have the "Geek Squad" do it remotely, but it will cost about $60.

To import the Outlook express data to Outlook you have first import it in Window Live Mail .

Click Start ->Getting Started and click Windows Live essential.

    Download Windows Live Mail.

Check the link below to Import the OLE(Outlook Express) data to Windows Live Mail:

To transfer the data from Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2010 follow the steps mentioned in the article below:

  2. Copied and Pasted from a PM to QT just cause it's faster and I'm pressed for time to get to work....

    *yawn* good morning Jessica

The buffer for chat doesn't scroll back very far but it seems to indicate you got some data back. YAY!

I did see the question about whether you should format now.

If you have all the data you want/need or you're at the point you feel you've recovered all that can be salvaged then I'd say yes but do all this after putting the hard drive back in the laptop.

You will want to do more than just format though.

Seeing as how the hidden diagnostics partition is inaccesable you wil also want to remove that.

As part of the XP install process you have the option to repartition the hard drive.

    You'll want to do that.

So, remove all partitions on the hard drive then create one new one using the full capacity of the drive.

Then have XP setup format the drive using the NTFS file system and install XP.

    Hopefully all will go smoothly.

Needless to say, prudence needs be exercised in using the laptop for important projects until the laptop has proven it's stability.

One more cup of coffee and I''m off to work.

It's been an enjoyable challenge Jessica.

    Anything esle just holla,

    John

  3. Ok, the Netscape lockup problem has been fixed.

The problem was that the stats server (ns8-stats.netscape.com) was no longer accessible and that was causing lockups and freezing.

Netscape apologizes for the problems and hopefully all this will be behind them shortly.

On another note, the "phone-home" code is being removed from future versions.

The lockup/freeze problem has been fixed. The stats function has been removed from the codebase and that means that all subsequent versions of 8.x including the upcoming release of 8.1.3 will not contain the feature.

Also, even though the stats server is back online, no data is actually being sent.

This fix was implemented Tuesday, February 20, 2007 8:46 am

So if it's Netscape that gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling have at it!

    .....

  4. Apparently, a statistics server Netscape uses to monitor browsers is down

and Netscape 8 has a bug in it that can't handle that situation (it has to timeout.)

Edit your HOSTS file with notepad and add the following line:

    127.0.0.1 ns8-stats.netscape.com

Now save the HOSTS file and restart your Netscape and the problem will be gone.

You can find the HOSTS file in:

    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc

  5. Jonny Lingo

Every time I see that name I fondly remember the story of the 10 cow woman.

I cannot remember what class TWI played it at, only that it was one of Mrs. Wierwille's favorites.

Anyway, few months back while lurking on here I saw that name Jonny Lingo and was inspired to punch it into video.google.

If anyone is interested "The Legend of Johnny Lingo" in it's entirety is can be found at the link below:

    Hmm, I wonder.

If in the lot of Johnny's 10 cows if one of Johnny's cows was a purple cow would Johnny have needed more or less cows?!?

  6. Gene is one of the most knowledgeable and intelligent persons I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Gene and Sherry are no longer married.

They have a son who is a smart and delightful fellow.

Their son is in the 9th grade this year.

Sherry and son were living in the New Knoxville area as of last May.

I know nothing of the whereabouts of Gene but knowing the love he had for and the involvement with his son

I cannot picture in my mind his heart allowing him to be any where but near.

As far as any current association with TWI goes I can only do the math.

God bless you Gene, Sherry and (name withheld)
