  1. Tom Cruise is in a cult.

We were in a cult (some of us, maybe, still are.)

    I agree with TheHighWay.

During my over twenty years of cult participation I heard and saw very similar if not almost exact behavior.

I heard staunch defense of the Holocaust myth, while discounting any conflicting evidence to the contrary. We had studied the Holocaust (Myth of the Six Million, the Thirteenth Tribe), hell, we were self appointed experts.

I heard harsh criticism of the Catholic Church by people who had “studied” Babylon Mystery Religion. They new the truth of Catholism cause they had studied the history of Catholism. Catholism is a pseudo…oops, I mean a pagan religion.

Anyone know someone who got pregnant while on that sure-fire birth control, called the mucus method. And even after they got pregnant they wouldn’t admit that the method was faulty. It was either their believing or they were not disciplined enough in its application.

    Folks, it’s called cult mentality.

  2. Catcup,

Thanks for publishing some of the content of that tape.

Boy, that is TWI at its purest! Intimidate the followers by accusing them of being intimidated.

I took PFAL for the 1st time in 1976, I don't remember that particular tape, but I do remember feeling so much guilt whenever I had doubts about the ministry or could not feel confident when asked challenging questions by parents and others.

  3. LindaZ and TommyZ (yews guys related?)

    Welcome to the "LOST" thread.

Good questions LindaZ. In response to your Kate question, I think she probably masterminded the bank caper. She didn't want anyone to get hurt, nor did she want the money. She wanted what was in the safe deposite box. The money was just to get the guy (boyfriend?) to help her pull off the job. IMHO

Besides the tropical heat, I'm wondering what the heck are those polar bears eating to survive. PR's are carnivores (fish and seal mostly); so, why aren't they incountering them on beach, instead of the island's interior? Also the bear didn't appear until after we saw the kid reading a comic-book with a polar bear in it. After the episode with the kid's backstory, it makes you wonder.

Is next week's episode new or used?

    Later,

  4. I agree that the birth and surgery/death of Boone offered no real surprises, but I believe that these two events will prove to be key in moving the plot forward. I believe that the two events happening at almost the same time is not coincidental.

It appears we will have to tolerate more reruns before the final cliffhanging episode. I wish they would either make more episodes next season or do like they're doing with "Alias" and make the season 22 weeks long with no breaks.

    Til' the finale.....

  5. Yes, I too am looking for a payoff for all my obsession with a few answers to these riddles. Damn, that last episode better give at least a few answers before it leaves us in a cliffhanger!

I really liked the last episode too. Locke is one of my favorite characters, along with Hurley.

Thanks for Zixar and hiway29 for responding to my post. Have a nice weekend.

  6. I'm a big fan!!

What did you think of the finally?

To me it appeared as if the original plan was to close out the series (it wasn't doing well in ratings), but then it got a reprieve, so they had to redo the ending to leave it open for another season.

  7. Just to help this topic along......

    quote:
Extortion is a criminal offense, which occurs when a person obtains money, behaviour, or other goods and/or services from another by wrongfully threatening or inflicting harm to his person, reputation, or property. Euphemistically, refraining from doing harm is sometimes called protection.

Blackmail is one kind of extortion -- specifically, extortion by threatening another's reputation with the disclosure of incriminating statements (true or false) about him. Even if it is not criminal to disclose the information, it constitutes extortion to demand money or other consideration not to disclose it. [1] (http://www.lectlaw.com/def/b105.htm)

Extortion is distinguished from robbery. In robbery, the offender steals goods from the victim whilst threatening him with force. In extortion, the victim willingly turns the goods over to avoid a threatened violence or other harm.

The term extortion is often used metaphorically to refer to usury or to price-gouging, though neither is legally considered extortion.

United State Federal Definition of Extortion is: The term "extortion" means the obtaining of property from another, with his consent, induced by wrongful use of actual or threatened force, violence, or fear, or under color of official right.

  8. Place: Chicago

Year: 10th corp’s interim year (when was that anyway?).

WOW Family has a WOW who is really sick. The WOW family coordinator calls the WOW team coordinator. (10th Corp woman). She goes over and discovers that this man is so sick because he has been bathing with insecticide. The man is sure that bugs are crawling on him. Now this bug-man has a little girl. 10th Corp woman starts talking to the little girl and the little girl tells her that she can’t call any family members of her father, because they are hiding from her mother and any family member might report them to her mother.

10th Corp woman reports to her leadership.

What happens: Bug-man is “released” from his WOW commitment. He leaves the field with his little girl and NO ONE, that’s right NO ONE, bothers to report this guy to the authorities.

I was told this by the 10th Corp woman many years ago. It has always bothered me. And I have wondered many times what became of that little girl and if her mother ever found her..

Anybody out there ever hear about this or were you a WOW in Chicago that year?

  9. So many great responses.

Even thoses who would like nothing back, I think I understand. MJ, I may have been a little defense too, in my reaction to your first response. But after reading your later posts, your point became clearer.

I don't post much anymore at the cafe, but I always like to come in and listen to the conversations. With so many conversations about what TWI took from believers, or what people gave up to be in TWI; I just thought it would be interesting to see what was the one thing people would want back. Also a little to much vino loosened my posting fingers.

how did twi take away your ability to love someone without judging?

Please re-read my post, my question was "what would "you take or want given back fron TWI???"

Did I say they took it from me? Maybe, I gave it to them. Maybe I just want it back, whether I gave it (foolishly)to them or not.

Mj, why are you so defensive? It's as though you are trying to "head em (any responses) off at the pass."

    Please just let people speak.

    You may learn something.
