  1. Since you mentioned being laid off from a high-paying job, I assume you have some advanced skills. Waht is it that you do?

    George

    Here is the unbelievable:

I was sub-contracted to the Department of Energy at a former weapons plant that was being closed. I was an Admin. Asst./Office Support for the calibration lab and when the lab closed, I was transferred to Fleet Administrator. After the plant closed I was unable to find anything that paid as well.

The problem with that is I was stupid when I bought my house and didn't do any research on being a home buyer. I didn't know until I tried to sell it that I paid $30,000.00 more than it was worth because I didn't ask any questions, so when I tried to sell, no one would touch it. I couldn't drop the price without taking out a loan to close.

By the time it went to foreclosure and we had to leave, all I could find were temp jobs and the money was running out. We have been all over trying to find a place to make it - Texas, Missouri, back to Denver, Minnesota (!) and back to Texas. We only came back to Denver because we had an offer to stay with a friend for a couple of months to get back on our feet. That offer turned into 2 weeks once we got back (her housing wouldn't allow 2 months) and now it's time for us to go back to living in the cars. If we had known we would have stayed in Texas because right now it's freezing here.

I thought I would have no problem finding work here, I'm an Admin.Asst. with experience in A/P, I'm registered with 4 Temp companies, and have submitted my resume to several job sites and several companies who were hiring. It's been 3 weeks since we got back (our friend let us stay a bit longer-risking her own housing) and there has been nothing.

Right now all we want to do is get back to Texas where we are determined to get work even if we're living in the cars until we save enough to get an apartment.

We can't seem to find an open door to get back on our feet - everyone's continued prayer is greatly appreciated.

  2. Please pray that I can find work and a place to live for my family.

I was laid off from a high paying job and as a result could no longer afford my house payments. I couldn't sell it even after a year of having it on the market and it was foreclosed on.

We've traveled to several states trying to find affordable housing and a job that could support it, but all it did was suck my finances dry. As a result, we have been homeless for a while. Everything we own is in a storage that is now overdue to be paid.

I am currently trying to find work in the Denver area but it's difficult with no home base, and no money.

I know this sounds unreal and that it can't happen in this society, but it has and we are living a nightmare.

Thank you in advance for your prayers.

    -Porphyra

  3. Jonny - DFW area but it depends mostly on where I can find housing and work.

And Porphyra is greek for purple, Selena is greek for moon (after the greek goddess of the moon) and feggos is greek for beam of light, so the name means purple moonbeam. (um...in Greek)

    Thanks for asking. :)

  4. Mstar-

Warmest wishes to you and sorry this is late. Hope the day was filled with marvellous blessings.

And your poetry is as beautiful as your windows.

  5. WARNING: The following is just my dark, personal, jaded, bitter opinion:

CFF is a "The way TWI shoulda been" offshoot. I was getting their tapes for quite a while and the teachings are good, (particularly those by 2 teachers I can think of) but sound just like TWI. They even occasionally mention things taught by "another ministry". >blech

Impresses me as a band-aid for those heart-broken by TWI not being what they thought it was. That's where I was at, but a few years back I went to a "branch" meeting where one woman absolutely gushed about Weirdwill and what he taught, and his love for the Word, and God, and God's people (yeah, especially the women) and blah-blah-blah. I had already discovered WayDale & GS by then and her lavish praise for that perverted bastidge made me almost puke.

I eventually stopped going to the local fellowships and have at least a year's worth of teaching tapes I haven't even opened.

The folks there are all real nice, tho.

    Whatever.

  6. I don’t often login and rarely post but this thread brings up something I wonder about from time to time-

I’ve been married twice. The first one ended when I found out he had been cheating on me for 6 years with anyone he could get. IMO he broke the marriage when he broke the vows. Number 2 broke the marriage when after 8 years of verbal, emotional and physical abuse he finally broke my face, which got him 1 whole day in jail. (And yes, he used the “wives submit” reference freely and often.)

Even though I kept my vows, both marriages were a mistake as neither of them was the love of my life (at the time I stupidly believed it was better to be with the wrong one than to be alone) and both times the wedding was performed by mutual friends who were Notaries. So I wonder: were they truly “marriages” in God’s eyes?

-and don't EVEN get me started on the abuse aspect. I've been sheltered and counceled (sp?)and counceled some more and the best advice I can give to someone in that situation is GET OUT!

  7. don't post much but this my genre-

    -->good movie, better book:

    *Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

    *Dune

    *The Hobbit

*The Lord of the Rings(Yes, you should read The Hobbit first)

Also, Tolkien has written LOTS of other shorter stories of which the best known are Smith of Wootton Major and Farmer Giles of Ham

    -->Good movies, no book:

*Princess Bride (Yes, by all means, see this!)

    *Blade Runner

    *Edward Scissorhands

    *Labrynth

    *Legend

    *Titan A.E. (Animated)

    *Fifth Element

    *Excaliber

    *The Dark Crystal

(don't know if they would be considered true adult fantasy, but i enjoy movies set in the future, so I liked Logan's Run, the whole Mad Max series, Waterworld, & The Postman, -but then, my tastes lean toward the cheap and tawdry.)

And Zixar - "Rest well, & dream of large women"

  8. 2 songs on the new CD "Fallen" by Evanescence are getting air play: "Bring Me To Life" & "Going Under" but here are the words to the one that caught my attention:

    Everybody's Fool

    Perfect by nature

    Icons of self indulgence

    Just what we all need

More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be

Have you no shame don't you see me

You know You've got everybody fooled

    Look here she comes now

Bow down and stare in wonder

    Oh, how we love you

    No flaws when you're pretending

    But now I know she

Never was and never will be

You don't know how you've betrayed me

And somehow you've got everybody fooled

Without the mask where will you hide

Can't find yourself lost in your lie

    I know the truth now

    I know who you are

And I don't love you anymore

It never was and never will be

You're not real and you can't save me

    Somehow now you're everbody's fool.
