  1. Well we went from the now 500 acre site to a 300 acre site elsewhere and now we are back at the 500 acre site...my head is spinning  but I have been given a budget (which under the current economic circumstances is surreal) but I get to spend somebody elses $ lololol!!!!! :P

  2. So does your agency own the IP or can you (willing to) post your material for those of us who are interested?

We/I own the site TheGrowersSchool.Org however since we are in transition I've not updated it. The college will post their info when their spring catalogue comes out which will be soon me thinks. Also look for info on Georgia Organics website GeorgiaOrganics.Org

Also LocalHarvest.Org will have info when the dates are finalized

  3. Thank you we are planning a 2 year degree program starting in 2011 but will probably continue to run the 6 month certificate program as there are many who want the training and experience but not necessarily the degree. As the program advances I'll post some pictures.

What is interesting (and ironic) is that the Moores Bridge site was a precivil war farm. A gentleman by the name of Horace King, a freed slave trained in engineering built a toll bridge over the Chattohoochee River which Sherman promptly burned during his 'visit' in Geogia, apparantly this was the only battle fought in Carroll Co., the ironic part is the 1864 house I saved from the bulldozer was the field hospital used to treat the confederate soldiers injured during the skirmish, strange huh...

  4. Well it's been a year since the accident and I am pleased to report that daughter and grandaughter are fine. K's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, her chances of simply surviving were razor thin to begin with but for the recovery she has seen...amazing. Again thanks for the prayers and happy thoughts they mean/meant a lot to me. Last Tuesday I called my friend at the local radio station and requested her to play Fleetwood Mac's song Landslide, Kim the dj knew what the song meant to me and K and asked if I wuz going to be ok, I said prolly but if not I wuz on Maple St and could pull over and have a good cry right there ifn I needed to, well I didn't pull over but I did have a good cry anyways, gawd I am getting so danmed emotional in my old age...lol bout time eh?

  5. Been working on this project for the last 7 or 8 years and now it is finally coming to pass. My thanks to Wacky and Shell for listening to me plan plot and gripe my way through the process of making this happen, many thanks to those who are geographically close who did the same (although I doubt they will read this I wanted to say thanks anyways :) )

  6. Hey Psalmie thanks for asking bout us in the boonies. Glad you and yours are safe, we are too but yes we did get slammed with rain, the 100 yr flood is what old timers round here are saying, my driveway was a raging torrent but that was mild compared to the other damage and loss of life in the area. 56 roads were damaged and had to be closed and I think 4 folks drowned in Douglas Co, we lost a 2 yr old when his families mobile home got torn from its foundation and broke in two...mom dad and a 4 yr old clung to a tree for several hours before the rescuers could reach them and of course by then it was too late to effect a rescue of the infant, they did recover him later...prayers for their family is greatly appreciated.

I hope the rest of our Georgians are fine

    Mike

  7. LOLOL yeah whoda thunk I'd have grandkids? Certainly NOT me!

Cadance is quite the tomboy except she's a bit afraid of the chickens (might peck her)she started kindergarten this year and really enjoys it.

Did I tell you bout the dance recital she did at church and the two grumpy old men who were holding back tears watching her perform. Major miracle that what with the events of November eh?

Anyways K is in fine spirits and looking forward to the new addition, she is aiming to return to school and get her degree in biology, teach maybe or do research.

I'm on the verge of putting together the college program, we've been offered 25 acres in Bowdon for the demo farm and the old Carlisle office building for a permanent home for the program, gotta pull together some funding first but that seems assured (I'll feel more assured once the $ is in hand.)

anyways it's raining today and I gots to get moving and collect some $, have a happy one ya'll :)

  8. I am involved with law enforcement having recently gotten certified to handle trustee's on my community garden. woo hoo eh?

State and federal budgets are tight so hiring has slowed but from my insider contacts patience and persistance pays off. It's a high stress exciting job, pay mostly sucks until you get advanced degree's or certification and time on the job.

    Good Luck

    :)

  9. Prayers requested...again

K found out the other day that she is preggers, I asked her if she thought she was special or the sperm would get lost or something but it is too soon (IMO) after the accident for this to be a good thing for her or the baby. I turned it over to God but still feel prayers are appropriate and needed so send one up for her and the baby if ya will.

    Thanks

    Me

  10. Well K is working three days a week now and she informed me that Ben, the young man who stayed by her side during this event proposed to her last weekend, they are planning a spring wedding. I am a happy man :).

Also her mom and I got her a new car, a Cadillac a BIG HEAVY CADILLAC. The choice was a tank, humvee or caddie we went with the Caddie...lets hope this one stays out of the junk yard.

Again thanks fer the prayers she is doing great

  11. Thank you thank you, this has been an interesting time thats for sure, K starts back to work next week, 4 hours a week until they determine just how well her right knee will hold up, amazing that with all her injuries it's the knee that still gives her trouble. The Dr's said she would need replacement surgery at some point but to put it off for as long as possible, again amazing that the banged up knee is her only long term problem (asides a big scar on her belly from sugery. Again thanks for the prayers.

    Mike

ps my eyes still leak when I read this or think much about what happened...

  12. It's hard to believe that it's been 3 months since the early morning phone call - funny how times slips by when there is a crisis eh?

K called me last Monday asking me to take the wheelchair back cuz she was tired of looking at it and she's been out clothes and car shopping this weekend. Amazing ain't it :)

While K still has aches and pains her recovery has been remarkable, thanks for the prayers and happy thoughts, they are very much appreciated.

  13. Thanks for all the prayers folks, K has made a remarkable recovery and she is scheduled to come home tommorrow. K will be in a wheelchair until her hip and knee heal better and she'll have to wear a halo for 3 months but it looks like she will be making a complete recovery.

I built her a wheelchair ramp yesterday and it looks like it'll do, it only fell a few times while we were testing it for stability so K should be fine as long as she doesn't stay on it too long ;)

Linda I posted this 2 weeks after the accident and after K cleared the proverbial woods, by then a lot of prayers had been answered.

I'm looking forward to having her home with me tommorrow.

  14. K is doing much better, she had the last of her tubes removed yesterday and I got to feed her the first solid food she's had in a month. She said she never appreciated food or water like she does now (even if it's pureed). I brought her daughter to the hospital for her first visit and they both did good, only a short spell of tears and lots of I love you's...

thanks for the prayers and thoughts

  15. Thanks Runner

K should be off the respirator this afternoon, she is already being weaned off the sedative. I think now it's just a matter of making sure she is healing ok then either to a regular room or perhaps home. She has made a remarkable recovery so far she'll be wearing a halo for a for months but will retain movement in her neck. Her other injuries will just take time to heal but it looks like that is the direction she is going so we are excited to see her true grit come out.

On a side note many of the kids K went to twig with have stayed in touch throughout the years and most of them came by or called the hospital to see how she was doing. They comforted, edified and looked after us like family, I'm really thankful for them.

I've not tried to think of anything more than what was before me, when the wreck happened I turned her over to God and left her there. I'm not seeing her damage but her healing, I'm focusing on the progress and keeping my trust in God and the skilled hands of the doctors and nurses looking after her.

  16. Last Wed. my daughter was airlifted to Grady Hospital in extremely critical condition, her car was struck in the drivers side by a truck. She suffered multiple fractures, two punctured lungs, a damaged spleen and her vitals were half of what they should be. When I arrived on scene she was in the air to an unspecified hospital so I didn't get to see her but I did get to carry my granddaughter from the car to the ambulance and comfort her as best I could.

When the call went out, the dispatcher did what she had to do to process the call and then started praying. That was the beginning of a steady stream of folks praying for Karries' life and recovery which I feel played an important role in things turning out as well as they have.

Cadance my grandaughter was sitting behind her mom in the car but had a few scratches and bruises. She is recuperating at the great grandmothers house and misses her mom terribly but understands that mom is very sick and needs to get a bit better before she can see her.

When she arrived she was listed as extremely critical but was ungraded to guardedly optomistic by 4 that evening and was responding to memory questions (mine) by 9 that night. I'm not sure what her official condition is now but it has improved remarkably. She had her spleen removed and was fit today with a halo to help the C-1 heal. The doctors are considering releasing her from ICU soon and they expect a full if slow recovery.

I told her mom that K's probably got the most diverse group of people praying for her than most, from Baptists to Methodists to cult members and excult members to tree huggers to a bunch of sober drunks...I thank them/you all for those prayers they did make a difference.

Oh yeah, Friday the Camster had his first baby, a 5lb 10 oz girl called Allegra Marie no red hair, freckles or excessive height (thank God for small (and I do mean small) favors)

  17. Excie I applaud your courage in fessing up, you are not alone, I've gone into chat drunk myself a few times and misbehaved which is one of the reasons I've stayed away from this site (for the most part). You are loved and forgiven, at least as far as I'm concerned.
