Just like books and movies, etc., and, of course, real life (as we knew it). Have you never read a scary Koontz or Stephen King novel? Actually, I read Stephen King when I need a good laugh. WS: Not so goofy after all. I thought about that when we went over that account in Bible study last year. There are just SO many instances in the OT that are "types" of things to come in the NT, that you can't help but wonder about all of them at one time or another. Of course, as Rachel points out, the Babel thing is the opposite of what would become so dynamic to the early believers. Along those lines, perhaps Bullinger has something about a "special" time of miracles, etc. in the first century. His claim that those miracles only happened for awhile certainly makes sense when you consider that towards the end of the writings Paul had to tell Timothy to drink some wine for his stomach's sake (I drink if for my sanity [not too differently, huh?]), that his friend was sick unto death but God had mercy on him, the fact that all the apostles DIED martyrs except John--you get to thinking.... Because we live mostly in places were another language isn't necessary (except El Salvadorian around here), what good would it be for us to be able to speak in other languages today to witness for God? Speaking of witnessing, in the OT the people CAME to Israel because their lives were a witness. No program necessary, no batteries included.

WS: Is it really off topic? I don't think so. The ultimate insult was how we were asked to live our lives. At least when we were sleeping we were free to dream. No one could take that away from us. Although, some of those "dreams" were really nightmares. Funny, I still seem to have them at times. Anything about TWI turns into a nightmare somehow. You can't talk about isolation and loneliness without realizing that Corps/Staff who were trying to be helpful/sincere had absolutely no where to turn, no one to run to. We couldn't dare go to someone for "help" without being labeled a problem. We couldn't complain without fearing for our positions (even if we were just "slaves"). We were up the proverbial stream without a dam* boat, never mind a paddle....

There was no brotherhood, brothership, mothership, either. Though we prayed for one!

Danny, if what you say were true, it would make sense....an employee for twi would have monetary gain for their actions here. One could understand the rancor with which the posters were treated...one could understand his need to shore up twi`s reputation...the willingness to justify the assault on innocent.

THANKFULLY, can't say I was abused sexually. I asked my husband about it once because I wondered why I was never approached, like did I have two heads or something? This was way back when you only spoke of those things if you had an "unrenewed" mind, like WS wrote. Anyway, it wasn't that I wanted to be approached, just more like I doubted what I had heard because, like seeing a ghost or devil spirit or something, it just never happened to me. Anyway, hubby said something to the effect of anyone who knew me knew they wouldn't get anywhere anyway. Probably a smart comeback. However, it was suggested we get an abortion. That tequila just got in the way one night and before you knew it I was drinking penny royal tea or some such "natural" "remedy". After one cup I was so horrified with myself that I swore I'd never do anything bad again ever if I didn't abort. I didn't, then. But later had a miscarriage in residence. Was too far along for it to be the tea. Not trying to sound judgmental here. I have no idea what is right or wrong re abortion. Only know how I feel about it.

At any rate, there was no way for me to vote.

On first glance I have to say I agree with WS, it seems very logical, and I'm nothing if not logical.

I guess I kinda worry when something fits with how I'd like to see it; i.e., MY beliefs. It seems like convenient justification, but in a few months our bible class will be studying Acts and I'll be able to give it some time and thought then. Right now, I'm in Exodus with the 10 commandments. Some neat stuff believe it or not....

Anyway, appreciated your input and will most definitely keep it forefront in my thinking for sure. THANKS!

settled means no one is found guilty they settled their issues without a judge ruling ANYTHING!!!!

BIG difference between not being found guilty and being found innocent. As most already know, people "settle" out of court because they don't want anyone to know what really happened. It usually is taken as a sign of being guilty, otherwise why not fight to prove your innocence?

BTW, went to see a movie on a series of events that happened in 1935 in a black college in Texas this weekend, The Great Debaters. Obviously there are LOTS of other people out there who can't let the past die. What difference does it make? What relevance could it hold for today? Well, as my husband pointed out on leaving the theatre, most of the debate questions in the movie could be argued with the same passion today. They have never been "settled." And as in TWI, the people who commited the atrocities recounted in the movie (which is a true story) are most likely dead. However, the lessons gleaned from them still need to be taught today. And, as war criminals from Nazi Germany are still held accountable (if they are indeed found alive), people need to be told what happened to prevent a recurrence AND to know that people still care to see justice accomplished.

Perhaps if justice has been met to those responsible for what happened in TWI, we'd have no need to post here....
