  1. I am from the pacific northwest, born and raised there. I was sent to the south in 1982 as a WOW and never went back--except to visit.

I love the genial manner of most people, the true "southern hospitality". It's an attitude here. No matter what place of business you visit, the proprietor (or whomever) says, "Come back and see us!" and means it.

When you talk about the way of southerners, I think Charles Kuralt said it best in his book aptly titled

Southerners A Portrait Of A People

"In the South, the breeze blows softer...neighbors are friendlier, nosier, and more talkative. (By contrast with the Yankee, the Southerner never uses one word when ten or twenty will do)...This is a different place. Our way of thinking is different, as are our ways of seeing, laughing, singing, eating, meeting and parting. Our walk is different, as the old song goes, our talk and our names. Nothing about us is quite the same as in the country to the north and west. What we carry in our memories is different too, and that may explain everything else."

  2. My 9 year old son still talks about the night Daddy threw Mommy off the porch--he was 4 at the time.

My ex told my son that "this is what happens when you don't obey."

It took me a year of physical therapy and one knee surgery before I could walk well enough to leave. I started over with 4 kids ranging in age from 15 down to 2.

  3. I found a womens org in the tampa area that can help. It's called CASA

CASA’s primary service area is the southern half of Pinellas County in Florida. CASA can be reached by calling the 24-hour help line, 727-895-4912. The automated voice message will instruct you to dial “1” to access an advocate any time, day or night.

If you live outside Pinellas County, call 800-799-SAFE (7233) to talk to an advocate at the domestic violence shelter in your area.

If you are in physical danger, call 911 to reach the police.

Praying with you and for you.

Whatever your problems, there are those of us who have had them too.

    God is faithful--I'm living proof.

  4. As a former battered spouse myself, as hard as it is, PRESS CHARGES!!!!! I didn't, and because of that my ex WALKED AWAY from any jail time when he was facing kidnapping and federal weapons charges because he had a "clean" record.

I shudder every time I think about it because here I am four years later and I'm still being stalked by him and his family.

Go to your local battered women's shelter even if it is just to talk. The women there will help supoort you as you take these steps.

  5. The only time I ever had sleeping problems was during the time my kids were kidnapped and there was a contract on my life. I was staying (hiding) at a girlfriends house whose 33 year old husband had died the same day my kids were kidnapped.

At 9:00 pm we would take a sleeping pill (ambien) and be out in 30 minutes or so. I usually would wake up around 2:30am and be up for the rest of the night while my girlfriend slept.

My new husband is a narcoleptic and we're usually in a coma by 10pm. He takes medicine to keep himslf awake during the day.

  6. Suda.........Are you flying or driving? If driving, maybe we could get together in Sevierville for breakfast like we did in 2002. :)

  7. There is a phenomenon here in the smoky mountains happening this week. There is a species of fireflies that during mating season they all blink at the same time--really a sight to see. I'll be taking the kids on the trolley into the national park later this week to watch. I'm told that there are only two other places in the world that this happens.

  8. I remember him........................He and I rode over the Cascade mountains for our WOW meeting in the back of Chris Shaws' pickup. BRRRRRRRRRRRR.

We were from Spokane and we had to do our one-on-one meetings with Randy Freese. What a blast from the past.................................circa:1982

I haven't been back to Spokane in a few years but I'm hoping to get back there soon.
