  1. I used to be annonymous--ish --- I posted as Washingtonweather - but lost the pastword - didn't bother to get it...achnaged my name...but I have also stated who I am on many posts because I felt no pressure from "waygb" (as Pmosh put it) about it. I didn't always - like when I first started posting on Waydale, I was still in and actually posted play by plays of the way idiots so called declarations of us up to the point we were dramatically m&a'ed.

  2. Dot - about 8 years ago - when I was trying t get on as a substitute teacher, I called and had transcripts sent indicating that I had received an Associates which put me at a certain pay scale in this school district. I never saw the transcripts. It would be a good idea I think to call to get a copy for oneself just to know what they have as a legal record.

  3. Mstar - I understand your point...basic human needs and all, but my point is that no one group contains clones of eachother...

  4. are they all the same ---hmm -- are Christians and Jews and atheists, Buddhists, Baha'i and Hindus all the same ?? really

  5. These leaders in these "dictatorial" leadership roles many times fit the criteria laid out in the book "The subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse." Many years ago I posted the many points in that book that cause these outfits to be so subtle...It is emotional, deceptive and manipulative playing on people's genuine authentic desire to do right by God.

  6. In some elementaries, there is time and emphasis on science and social studies (another area sorely lacking). These are the schools that are populated by children of educated parents and the children come to kindergarten already knowing most of the alphabet....(yes it all starts here)

Then - in my school because we are swimming against the current, we focus almost entirely on math and reading to make our AYP. With crack babies, the up and coming ganstaa's and shaken baby syndrome and poor or malnourished children, it is difficult to say the least to please the "test Gods."

The point is -- if it isn't easily dicernable - that it isn't surprising to me and has roots in issues far bigger than education ultimately.

    AIG

I am glad to hear about the:

It's an Ex Post Facto bill. Not constitutional. Congress cannot enact laws to address a prior situation.

It's also a Bill of Attainder. Also not constitutional. Congress cannot enact laws aimed at specific individuals.

    AIG

transparency is probably a whole other thread....but was mentioned on the Leno-Obama thread...so I am attempting to not derail it.

Case in point...AIG - while I hate the stupidity of the company - MSNBC reported yesterday morning that these "bailout stimulus packages" had in provisions in them that all contracts were to be honored....it appears they didn't read this package bill either...

    this isn't transparent.

It also reeks of laziness on our legislatures' part. I am not so sure 90% tax is the best answer.

Paw _ I know this will go to the political forum, but wanted to get comments from a broader base than just those who frequent the political - soap forum.

  7. If you google Juarez, Mexico you will see horrbile crime rates and most of it is drug or prostition related. 2000 death as of last week in the last year. Women disappear frequently. It is the town right across from El Paso on the Texas border.

  8. Oh my Dotty---

I learned from my heart attack that I could say no - be a bitch in others eyes - and I didn't give a damn anymore because it is not their life I am living....And I knew God was okay with it - and it was actually easier to come before the Lord knowing he makes intercession for me....I am far from perfect and that is why Jesus Christ is my Lord.

But man -- it makes me mad when I hear about wolves in sheeps clothing..trying to devour my friends!

  9. I know this is a dying topic, but I needed to write down what my thoughts are.

I think maybe that High Schools quitting on the kids is more unpatriotic than vice versa. Not all schools are this way. But when we start them off in Elementary in overcrowded classes and curriculum purchased by sycophants hammered by publisher lobbyists that is inadequate in its sequence and scope, and then force the teacher who didn't learn anything but the different philosophies of "education" - (the religious aspect of education) what do they in Washington expect?

How many principals know and use the What Works Clearinghouse

Do these sycophants actually listen to the teachers in the trenches for 25 years? etc - you get what I mean.

While we have a Principal who supported Obama, when I asked what she thought about all this money supposed to be coming our way --- LIke me she said --- I will believe when I see it...

And I might add -- money will not really change anything...

  10. I think its an overall degradation in many areas...both parents and teachers...

I work in a Title I school...we have meth moms not PTA moms --

I sent my kid to a suburban school where it seemed strong and positive.

I since have had to pull him out and find alternative education....I was even told by a teacher in a class in his 10th grade, (20 of 24 flunking) it wasn't her fault...(this happened every year and the principal would not let me move my kid) --she was the char of the department for crying out loud.

I just foundout in our school district we actually contract with somebody to pick up and take home drunk TEACHERS!

So while parents of this younger era seem to be less accountable--so are the teachers.

These are strong arguments for the homeschooling communities...which when done well is great, and conversely when poorly - is unsuccessful ---JUST like schools.

In the case of my son, he became a target of reverse discrimination. In a largely hispanic and black school, the black principal of the 4 principals singled him and a couple of other students to constantly stearch them, their cars and generally disrupt their education. My son passed every drug test ever given to him, he has held down a job even over the summer when all his friends quit...He is gifted in math and still he was harassed almost every day. By the end of October, after my heart attack, I said enough was enough and we pulled him after the testing at the community college.

Oh and Krys -- you know what is sad... Here in New Mexico - you have to be a Level 3 teacher to make more than what we spend in inmates in one year...

I make less than what they spend on an inmate.

    Talk about social priorities....

I think Sherriff Maricopa has it down--at least in Arizona they don't spend more on inmates than teachers!

  11. As a Teacher and a Parent I can tell you I pulled my son out of our district High School. This was after he took the GED pretest and blew away 2 of the 3 sub categories. I have gone through so much pain dealing with our local high school, it would be an entirely different thread, needless to say, my son is starting college a year earlier than his peers.

    Every case is different.

And by the way Mister-p-mosh - I don't consider myself a failure or my son who has already worked a steady job for 2 years, starting at 15 is also not a failure.

I don't think guilting people is right either. Telling everyone they don't love their country if they don't finish high school has the same guilt formula as crap from the way.
