1. We sold it in 1987 before we moved. He wanted it as his surf mobile.........

How about the Halloween costume party at my house, all you guys in your togas! Just in time for Oenophiles birthday.

Hmm, my long term memorie is working pretty good . To many things to bring up here.

That's a shame, but sometimes our toys have to go.

Sure wish I could attend the Halloween party.....and celebrate Oenophiles birthday...........I'll have to ask him if he remembers the nervous time we spent in OakCliff with the guy that thought he was Rocky Balboa.

  2. I agree with George...I was in twi from the time I was 24 until I was 37...a lot of guys were planting roots, making investments and developing their careers during those years...me? I was on the yellow brick road, off to see the wizard...

So it's obvious a lot of us feel we came out of this losing something we can't get back. That is a fact no one could dispute. I lost a lot to drugs and alcohol and still fight some demons,"figure of speech"<-----I hope anyway. This was even before I took the TWI bait, and I'm 53 now.

Anyway, are you satisfied or peaceful in your life now?

    Jim

I know I missed a heck of a lot of great rock conerts in the 90's because I was involved with TWI! I think I missed a lot of good groupie years, ha ha. Although I did meet my husband back then, and without TWI wouldn't have him any my 2 kids today. And even though TWI is twisted, my relationship I have with God because my motives were pure in being involved with TWI, is not. So glad for that.

How sweet it is! :) Keep living large and don't let the past control you today.

    Jim

  3. i'm sorry. i just wanted to tell you, jim, how terribly sorry i am.

Thanks excathedra, sorry is about all anybody can say when something like this happens. Nobody is playing the blame game, so all is well and healing with time. :)

    Jim

  4. :(

Sorry for your girlfriend's (and your) loss.

If you can make it, know we'd love to have you. You might consider PM-ing Dooj, TBone, or Tom to see if you could drive down with one of them (though if you're two hours from Dallas, a flight might be better).

    George

Thanks, flying is the only way to go, I just hate to drive. Will do the "priceline" type thing soon.

    Jim

  5. Hey I just found the pix for the 2006 BBQ in Gallery.

There's a great set of photos from the 2007 BBQ, some of which could do with posting somewhere on this site.

Ex10, are you cleaning out the hot tub again this year? Tell you what, I'll wallow in my bath and think of y'all.

    Twinky,

Wonder if shorts or bathing suits are optional?..............guess I'll get back to fantasizing about Misti May/Treanor :evilshades:

    Jim

  6. Hmmm... We may have to re-think that no-mark-and-avoid policy.

    :D

    George

    George,

Was this meant for me? :) Since I live two hours East of Dallas, flying would be my preference. Money is a little tight right now, since my girlfriends daughter hung her self from a tree three months ago. The kids real father was supposed to pay for funeral costs, of course he won't answer his telephone and lives out of state. The SOB didn't in show for the funeral, said he couldn't handle it. Anyway, we all have problems don't we  I will check airline prices from here, maybe they won't be to bad.

    Jim

  7. Jim,

I see you're trying to start a "TWI wasn't ALL bad" thread. Good luck with that.

I probably would not have met my wife and stepkids or had the three wonderful grandsons I have now.

On the other hand, I probably would be married, with kids and grandkids, and hopefully happy.

I would not have met many of the people I consider friends (including, ironically, Rhino and George Aar).

    I would have other friends.

I would probably still be Roman Catholic, though I might have been delivered from that by other means.

I might still be addicted to nasal spray, but I might have been delivered from that, as well.

I would almost certainly not have the knowledge of the Bible that I have now; but then, maybe I would.

Too many things have happened since 1978 for me to make any meaningful predictions about where my life would have gone. I'm happy with what I have.

    George

    George,

I'm grateful for the replies, perhaps I should have worded the question a tad bit better, of course where or what we might have been, would be just a guess at best.

My involvement was not long compared to a lot of the members on this list, so I now can understand others may think.

On the other hand I have a sister that met her husband and worked for years at headquarters, he took what he learned on the job and has been prospering ever since. Rare story I'd say at this time.

Will add that my bible is dust covered, and if someone starts preaching to me, I get very irritated. :realmad:

    Jim

  8. Jim,

I'll let ex10 add details, but the general gist is that the actual barbecue is Saturday afternoon-evening, with attendees bringing side dishes, etc. Ex10 and Dooj will probably coordinate. A "pre-party" on Friday night has also been part of the festivities, as has an informal fellowship on Sunday morning. You will not be marked and avoided for failing to miss any part, but you really shouldn't want to!

Depending on how far you live from The Woodlands, you might consider renting a nearby hotel room.

In the Gallery are some pictures from the first two affairs.

This started a couple of years ago when Tom Strange and I invited ourselves over to ex10's, and it grew out of control!

    George

    George,

I did see the pictures, of course Ex10 was the only person I recognized, but maybe I have met more of the bunch.

Not sure if I can make it or not.

    Thanks :)

    Jim

  9. EX10,

I could use some specifics on this thing..........d..m, I didn't even know this thread was here. Nothing like being newbie!

    Jim

Twinky, pleeze don't count it out this yr. After all, you never know what's around the corner.

And Mr. P, and CA dreaming, it's a rockin good time. Mr. P especially, dear. How many years have we been talkin about gettin together? I would so love to meet your sweet, sweet family.

And CA, geeze, it's about dang time...Old friends are the golden ones....

  10. I have read many threads on the negative aspects of being involved in twi, but have you thought about where and what circumstances you may be in if you hadn't been involved?

I'm almost sure East Texas wouldn't be my home and my life as it is. Simply put, I like where life's journey has taken me so far. :)

    Jim

  11. CD,

I remember that trip, also remember the keg party we had too after the our "branch?" coordinator

    left for headquarters......... :biglaugh:

That was definitely a fine car when did you get rid of it?

    Jim

I remember stopping at Ex10's parent's after the year was over, nothing like that southern hospitality. Seeing Elvis's mansion was exciting too. I remember keeping someones bike at my place think it was PG's. As for cars, I had a 63 Mercury Monterey, in mint condition.....except when it died on me near Emporia. But it was fixed in no time. That car also got hit which provided me $$$ for the Advanced clas. Finally got it fixed in 85, while in CA.
  12. Egads, Jim is right. The big regret of my wow year, is my way cool bike, getting ripped off. Long story, but when we went Wow, it was my most prized posession, and Jim made room in his, what was that black, sooped up car you had? anyway, Jim fit it in his back seat, and toted it for me from OH to TX. Oh with a stop at Mom's house along the way. Do you remember that, Jim?

    :spy:

    ex10,

You know I had to tow somebodies car too, think it was a BMW, but sure don't remember a stop at your Mom's house.

I am interested in the brand name of that bike, never heard of it before we met. It seems it was popular in your part of Tenn. anyway.

My car was .........hmmmm.......think ........maybe......'72 Torino, which got totaled. That's how I got the money for the Advanced class, maybe a real fancy tatoo would have been a better choice. LMAO!

  13. Let's make sure Jim knows about the 2008 BBQ. (Is it too early to start planning?)

    George

    George,

Hope to get to meet you there! By the way, don't ever do anything to get ex10 ....ed, she's still ....ed about her ten speed bike getting ripped off during our WOW year and it's been 30 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!?!?!????!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Let's make sure Jim knows about the 2008 BBQ. (Is it too early to start planning?)

    George

    George,

I know about and hope to be able to make it. :)

    Jim

  15. Hey, I knew you, Jim Wood. You were my Wow brother. Hope you and yours are well. Are you still in Dallas? Catch me up.

To much catching up to do here! ;)

  16. Ellen,

I knew Syvonnia very well, and we spent many many hours together when she was in St.Louis.

What a sweet woman she was!

    Jim Wood

I am not sure if anyone here will remember her, but she was very dear to my heart. A great friend to me in high school and beyond.

I only just found out that she died May 3, 1995. She was just 40 years old.

Syvonnia was one of the most creative people I have ever known. In her time, she was a gifted actress, a talented cartoonist, and THE best song parodist ever. (Weird Al has NOTHING on her.)

She was WOW twice in the 1970s -- in St. Louis, Mo., and in Baltimore, Md. She was an Advanced Class grad. But her true longsuit was speaking the Word and she won many to Christ -- not only for TWI but for many others who have gone on to have rich and productive lives, made even richer because they know the loving Father to whom Syvonnia introduced them.

We fell apart long ago because of widely divergent ethical and religious beliefs. I had always hoped that we would reconnect before time ran out. It didn't happen.

I do believe in the return. I do believe I will see this wonderful, dear and INCANDESCENT woman again. But the world is poorer without her.

  17. Backforty

You still in Houston?

I was a Dallas wow as well, in 78-79. I never dreamed I'd ever live in Texas again. icon_smile.gif:)-->

    Backforty,

I should know you! Was a Dallas wow the same year, hope you are doing well.

  18. He was wow in 78-79 in Texas, and wow in Virginia Beach I think in 80-81. From the Michigan area. Anyone know anything??????

I was there in Dallas as a wow the same year, he sounds like a guy I knew.......geez, it's been so long.
