  1. your bullpen may be blown out... this is SOP for ours... and remember, our first baseman is a call up fill in, our third baseman is a call up fill in, both corner outfielders are call up fill ins, ALL of those fill ins started the year in the minors, our closer just went on the dl and is having his elbow scoped to remove bone spurs, blalock is out, murphy is out, we have 9 starting pitchers on the dl, Padilla has just been scratched from his start against dice K and Hunter will pitch, Hunter started the season in single A ball... I'm just sayin'... and with all of that, they lead the majors in most offensive categories... and not lead by a little, they lead by a lot... and with regards to Pedroia/Kinsler... I've never disparaged Pedroia... just said I'll take Ian... but I have noticed (throughout the year) that they are both very good... it gives me a point of reference when you talk about Pedroia because I know how much we enjoy Ian... and I think you can see why.
  2. angiograms??? ...aren't those the word game thingies where the letters all stand for different words? ..like SNAFU or FUBAR?
  3. Here's a link to the box score... if you're interested
  4. Here's a link to MLB.com where they have some quotes and list some of the records set last night... I was wrong earlier about scoring 17 and losing, it was the first time an AL team had done that... apparently the Rockies have done it before as well...
  5. I'd give it to Youklis... for his eighth inning shot, under pressure... the others were more like BP hits...
  6. Over 400 pitches thrown in that game tonight... crazy. ...I meant "last night"
  7. "they" are saying on the radio that in the 50 years or so that they've been keeping these sort of records no one has ever scored 17 runs and lost... a page of the record books we'd rather not be on... but we do love our guys... This game was also a perfect example of why El Presidente needs to go hard after pitching NOW!... I'd put our everyday players and their offense up against anyone. Yes, other teams are good but these guys are special (yes, I know I'm biased)... they've only got a small window here to make something happen... if they can find a couple or three quality pitchers who don't mind sacrificing their ERA (in Arlington) for run support we'd instantly be legitimate contenders... we (the fans) want them to get some decent pitching more for those guys on the field everyday than for us... Tonight we roll out Luis Mendoza who (like our other pitchers) is always a crapshoot... one night he looks unbeatable, the next pffft!
  8. Out of all the things that I thought about that game the one that sticks out the most in my mind is that the stRangers scored that many runs with only ONE home run... Here's what Newberg sent out... and it sums it all up pretty nicely...
  9. Well... we've got two more the next two days... stay tuned... Like I've said all year... the stRangers play entertaining baseball... they make you want to root for them... (well, not if they're playing your team) I hope the starman has some hair left...
  10. maybe that's payback... the third pitch to Boggs was well inside the box but got called a ball...
  11. yeah... well that second pitch to Bradley was three balls outside the little box... would've been a four pitch walk... I'm just sayin'
  12. I never noticed Youklis 'split grip' before... oh well, he hit it out... good for him... it was still right to walk Papi... but it's not over yet (though it's not looking too good!) two out homers... I hate two out hits... so you can imagine how much I hate two out HOMERS Let's see if Papelbonn (sp) can hold 'em... it's the bottom of the order but you never know...
  13. dangit! it was key that we get Pedroia! rats! all tied at 16... (maybe not for long... Fransisco doesn't look too good tonight)
  14. yeah... quite a "game"... IF the stRangers hold on to win it will be the first time ever at Fenway that it's been done... I think they said the record was 8 run deficit after one inning... but it ain't over... we've still got to keep your guys from scoring... who knows? maybe even Cash will get a hit (he's the only BoSox w/o one right now)
  15. starman, this kid pitching now, Madrigal, just got called up recently and was an outfielder in the Angels system in 2006... the other guys on the team call him "mad dog"...
  16. I'm watching the TV... they're showing a BoSox fan in the crowd after Cat scored to tie it up at 14... the fan is just smiling and shaking his head... now it's 1st and 3rd with one out in the top of the sixth and "the nation" is booing... don't fret though... our pitchers still haven't figured out a way to stop your guys from scoring either... for those of you not watching (Rocky, Hiway) I'm sure you'll see it all on sportcenter tonight... funny thing is, my brother in law got home in the top of the second and said "I thought you'd have it turned off by now"... I just told him no... these guys don't give up, let's see what happens... so now we're on top 15-14 going to the bottom of the sixth... anyone want to take any bets that we'll still be ahead at the end of the sixth (I don't)
  17. there are no TVs being kicked... these guys don't give up... they just have to figure out a way to quit giving up runs... I'm pretty sure it's already closer than you thought it would be mstar... and the funny thing about Feldman is that he could throw a stellar game next outing... it's mind boggling... but it's what we've learned to live with...
  18. Geisha... I'm not going to address you for fear that I might break the board rules by calling you a blowhard and an unintelligent person... if you haven't noticed, we keep it fairly civil in here towards each other in that we try not to "kick 'em while they're down"... if you would follow mstars lead in basking in the sunshine while not ....ing in the rain you'll do OK...
  19. Last I heard it was the second weekend in November this year... since the first weekend has halloween...
  20. I just heard that as well... how in the heel did HE make it through waivers??? Of course, maybe Theo just picked him up to trade for some catching!
  21. and starman... Sheets does live here as well... (of course, that didn't mean anything to Torii) ...in any case, there's gonna be a lot of money flying around this off season...
  22. Well... like I said, it was a Globe story but I don't recall the writer... and it is probably just as much a ploy to give stRanger fans hope as anything else... Hicks has the money... he's just an idiot and a jerk. We're so jaded down here on FA pitcher signings that we don't give them much credence anymore... it seems that all of the times in the past FA pitchers have just used Texas as the odd man out in a bidding war... but we'll see, this is the first time we've had El Presidente Ryan in the mix, maybe it'll make a difference (yes, they have me thinking there's a glimmer of hope)... At least if they do go after FA's they don't give up anyone in the pipeline... I honestly don't know how the pitching matchups will pan out this week... once in a while they throw really good games... on the surface it looks like Padilla vs Dice-K might be a pretty good game... and have no fear about young Zink, if he can throw that thing for strikes he'll have a good chance of holding our offense down... nothing baffles a hot offense like a good knuckleballer... what drugs are you currently taking geisha? ...they seem to be pretty strong, would you mind sharing any with us? so are we! ...with 9 starting pitchers on the DL I think that Padilla is the only one left from opening day... but occasionally the guys we have throw some good games... just not very often...
  23. He'd probably do a damn sight better than at least half of our starters that's for sure... What's the word in the Globe these days? I'd heard that one of your writers was reporting that El Presidente was going to open up Hicks' wallet and go after Sabathia and Sheets and also try to engineer a trade for AJ Burnett... your writer also pointed out that the stRangers are about to accomplish (if they can manage to stay above .500) the first time in history that a team has finished with both the worst ERA and a winning percentage... It makes sense to open up the checkbook... we have the strongest offense in baseball (even though Bradley has been out pretty much since the break which puts a strain on Roy Hobbs)... everything is as good as anyone could ever imagine wanting it except, OF COURSE, the pitching... I'll have to make a note to make sure that El Presidente shouldn't neglect to call Theo while he's shopping... I too was wondering how Dunn cleared waivers... but who (of the contenders) needs an outfielder?
  24. Waysider, I don't think anyone knows this one... you might have to post another...
  25. oh yeah... I forgot that... happening day hiway!
