  1. I'm an excellent driver! I got one wrong - the one about waiting for ALL cars to pass before making a left turn. I picked "Until dangerously close cars have passed." So if I see a car coming a mile away, I have to wait for it?

  2. Red flags I missed:

When ROA got cancelled without any real explanation. It went to "All Roads Lead to the Rock" to What Rock?

    When Eve became a Lesbian.

When we had to re-take the "new" advanced class, using up money and vacation time from work.

When my twig coordinator asked for a copy of my tax return. Yes, this happened.

When we had to fill out weekly schedules to "plan the adversary out of our lives" and then report back how well we stuck to our schedules. And when I was faxing them in from work.

When good people were being M&A'd for not selling their homes.

  3. Here are the liabilities:

    Liabilities and Fund Balance

    Current Liabilities

    Accounts Payable 508,368.87

    Other 1,090,685.41

    Total Current Liabilites: 1,599,054.28

    Other Liabilities 1,125,526.00

From what I remember from school, "current liabilities" means they come due within 12 months. So the "Other Liabilities" would be due beyond that.

Accounts Payable are typically invoices received but not yet paid. Utilities, food vendors, payroll and such would be my guess. Kind of like the stack of bills I have waiting for payday.

It sure would be interesting to see their detailed balance sheet. This is rolled up into very general line items, but that's all that's required.

There must be some kind of advantage to filing in Arizona. Many corporations do file in odd states. Delaware is a common one. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Goey, this is a very interesting find! Thanks!

  4. That's Life

    Frank Sinatra

That's life, that's what all the people say.

    You're riding high in April,

    Shot down in May

But I know I'm gonna change that tune,

When I'm back on top, back on top in June.

I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem

    Some people get their kicks,

    Stompin' on a dream

But I don't let it, let it get me down,

'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around

    I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,

    A poet, a pawn and a king.

I've been up and down and over and out

    And I know one thing:

Each time I find myself, flat on my face,

I pick myself up and get back in the race.

    That's life

    I tell ya, I can't deny it,

    I thought of quitting baby,

But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.

And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,

I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

    I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,

    A poet, a pawn and a king.

I've been up and down and over and out

    And I know one thing:

Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,

I just pick myself up and get back in the race

    That's life

    That's life and I can't deny it

Many times I thought of cutting out

But my heart won't buy it

But if there's nothing shakin' come this here july

I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die

    My, My

  5. Baseball versus Football

    A classic from George Carlin

Baseball is different from any other sport; very different. For instance, in most sports you score points or goals; in baseball you score runs.

In most sports the ball or object, is put in play by the offensive team; in baseball the defensive team puts the ball in play, and only the defense is allowed to touch the ball. In fact, in baseball if an offensive player touches the ball intentionally, he's out; sometimes unintentionally, he's out.

Also: In football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and all sports played with a ball, you score withthe ball, and without the ball you can't score. In baseball, the ball prevents you from scoring.

In most sports the team is run by a coach; in baseball the team is run by a manager; and only in baseball does the manager (or coach) wear the same clothing as the players do. If you had ever seen John Madden in his Oakland Raiders football uniform, you would know the reason for this custom.

Now I've mentioned football. Baseball and football are the two most popular spectator sports in this country. And, as such, it seems they ought to be able to tell us something about ourselves and our values. And maybe how those values have changed over the last 150 years. For those reasons I enjoy comparing baseball and football:

Baseball is a nineteenth-century pastoral game.

Football is a twentieth-century technological struggle.

Baseball is played on a diamond, in a park. The baseball park!

Football is played on a GRIDIRON, in a STADIUM, sometimes called SOLDIER FIELD or WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM.

Baseball begins in the spring, the season of new life.

Football begins in the fall, when everything is dying.

In football you wear a helmet

In baseball you wear a cap.

Football is concerned with downs. "What down is it?

Baseball is concerned with ups. "Who's up? Are you up? I'm not up! He's up!"

In football you recieve a penalty.

In baseball you make an error.

In football the specialist comes in to kick.

In baseball the specialist comes in to relieve somebody.

Football has hitting, clipping, spearing, piling on, personal fouls, late hitting, and unnecessary roughness.

    Baseball has the sacrifice.

Football is played in any kind of weather: Rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog...can't see the game, don't know if there is a game going on; mud on the field...can't read the uniforms, can't read the yard markers, the struggle will continue!

In baseball if it rains, we don't go out to play. "I can't go out! It's raining out!"

    Baseball has the seventh-inning stretch.

    Football has the two-minute warning

Baseball has no time limit: "We don't know when it's gonna end!"

Football is rigidly timed, and it will end "even if we have to go to sudden death."

In baseball, during the game, in the stands, there's kind of a picnic feeling. Emotions may run high or low, but there's not that much unpleasantness.

In football, during the game in the stands, you can be sure that at least twenty-seven times you were perfectly capable of taking the life of a fellow human being

And finally, the objectives of the the two games are completely different:

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

  6. I love Google Earth! It helps to have to have an aptitude for maps. I found New Knoxville and then "drove" to the compound, er, twi from there. The resolution tends to be better in bigger cities, hence twi is quite blurry when you zoom in.

You can visit all the places you lived while you were a nomad in twi. I found the old campus in Emporia and the house I lived in while I was a WOW.

  7. [so, outintexas - a personal question. Why were you spiritually probated? What had you done or not done that got you so rated?

It was an accumulation of a number of things. We were not getting out of debt quickly enough, although we did sell our perfectly good house with its evil $500 monthly mortgage. Also, our tiny rented house wasn't physically clean enough. Our teenage son was starting to get out of control. Our marriage was a joke. A few months before we finally got the boot, I had a major panic attack from all the stress. I literally thought I was going to die from a heart attack. I guess we were too much maintenance.

  8. Hi Sis!

This was indeed how I got out. LCM often talked about the "devil's treadmill" when in fact, it was us who were spinning our wheels. There weren't enough hours in the week to do everything with work, raising three kids, maintaining a dysfunctional marriage along with all of the twi activities. When we finally got put on "spiritual probation" in 1999, it was a relief more than anything else.

We were supposed to keep listening to the tapes, reading the Way Mag, and of course keep up with the ABS. But no contact with the "household." If we were good, we would be allowed back in six months. It only took a few days to realize I'd be crazy to go back.

  9. The ROA seemed like a magical time, especially before kids and before the era of the mandatory twigs. At any time you might run into someone you knew so well that you hadn't seen in years. Usually it was a quick hi and bye because at least one of us was on our way to work or some meeting.

At the '95 ROA, the last one, but we didn't know it at the time, I ran into my '76-'77 WOW brother who I had no idea was still around.

If I remember right, it got longer and longer until it ran from Sunday through Friday, six days which got to be a bit much, especially with little ones.

I always thought it was odd that the news of its cancellation was never announced on a SNS tape or in the way mag, as far as I know. I never understood why they ended it after all those years of urging us not to miss it.

  10. The purpose of a man is to love a woman,

And the purpose of a woman is to love a man,

So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play

The game of love, love, la la la la la love

It started long ago in the Garden of Eden

When Adam said to Eve, baby, you're for me

So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play

The game of love, love, la la la la la love

Come on baby 'cause the time is right

Love your daddy with all your might

Put your arms around me, hold me tight

    Play the game of love

The purpose of a man is to love a woman,

And the purpose of a woman is to love a man,

So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play

The game of love, love, la la la la la love

The purpose of a man is to love a woman,

And the purpose of a woman is to love a man,

So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play

The game of love, love, la la la la la love

Come on baby 'cause the time is right

Love your daddy with all your might

Put your arms around me, hold me tight

    Play the game of love

The game of love, (love), love, (love), la la la la la love

The game of love, (love), love, (love), la la la la la love

The game of love baby, the game of la la la la love

The game of love baby, the game of la la la la love
