Dear DMiller,

I'm here today because a friend told me that you were trying to reach me. Normally, my internet access is public and doesn't have PM capabilities. I can be E-mailed or even old fashioned mail if you are willing to check my profile.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

JEFF

Hey there Jeff. PM is not the same as IM. All posters here at GSC can PM (private message) any other poster who is a member of the site. This is true on almost all boards, and it's always been a feature *available* to those registered here. It can be disabled by an individual poster (should they choose to do so), and that's what I was wondering.

If you go to your MY CONTROLS at the top of the GSC page, that'll get you into your profile settings.

Once there, on the menu on the left side and down near the bottom you'll see BOARD SETTINGS.

Click on that and you'll see something like this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Board Display Settings
Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?
Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?
Do you wish to view members avatars when reading topics?
Do you wish to get a board notification when you get a new personal message?
Number of posts to show for each topic page
Number of topics to show for each forum page
Personal Messenger Options
Disable your personal messenger?
If you disable your personal messenger, you will not be able to make or receive personal messages.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Your option for "Disable your personal messenger?" needs to be NO, so others here can PM you.

That's what I was asking about, if perhaps your setting says YES instead.

If that's the case, no one here can contact you through the site via PM.

(edited to highlight the board control section)

Dear David,

Every time I've tried to enable the that option at three different libraries in two completely different library systems the computer has told me that I went into an error state, or something like that. It seems to me that it cannot be done.

I'll look at my controls to be sure, thanks for the help no matter how it turns out.

Dear David,

I have no idea how this happened, but I'll assume it was done by someone who competant and in a position to do something about it.

I have my messenger turned on now, thank you mystery benfactor.

JEFF

P.S. It may be that I turned it on without knowing what I was doing to!?
