It's a film I like too.

But it is slightly glamourised in that the real Gladys Aylward was very short and dumpy, not tall and nordic like Ingrid Bergman. Nor is the romance in the film actually true.

Interestingly, the film was made in north Wales and therefore you are not actually seeing China in the film at all.

I would recommend the book about Gladys called "The Small Woman" by Alan Burgess which is based upon actual interviews with her.

I never met her but I knew who people who did.
