  1. If you're having trouble with the Java applet, this blog posts offers an alternative method: Altenative Method of Using GS Chat.

Another option is to use a standard IRC client. mIRC works very well on Windows. Colloquy works great on mac.

If you're using your own IRC client, the settings you need to connect are:

    Server: irc.irisheyesinternet.net

    Room: #greasespotcafe

Be sure to set what id you want to be known as before entering the room if not coming from the GS Java app. If you forget, you can always do the following to change it once in the room:

    /nick MyNewID

  2. New feature, down at the bottom of the forum index in the active users section is a new one titled "active users in the Chat Room."

This feature has been missing for awhile, mostly because I just figured out how to write a custom one for our IRC based chat room.

Anyway, if you go into the chat room, your ID will be listed there. If you leave, you ID should be removed in under a minute (most likely sooner).

Much easier to tell if someone is in there to talk with before loading the java app.

  3. As I mentioned somewhere else, we also deleted all the negative reputation votes and everyone's reputation total as displayed on their profile page now represents only the plus votes.

And since we disabled being able to up-vote your own post, all past self-up-votes have just been deleted.

  4. The display issue affecting being able to see the author's information of a post only affected IE7 (and probably IE6 but I didn't even bother with that antique). Something was triggering a bug in that browser. After spending a few hours trying to track it down I gave up. It's not worth it. IE7 is outdated anyway and if you're using IE6 there are a whole host of other sites that aren't going to work for you also.

So as a work-around, if the forums see that you're using IE7 it will default you to the old look and display properly.

If you want to use the new look, you need to update your browser to IE8 or use any of the, IMHO, better browsers out there. :anim-smile:

For anyone looking to upgrade IE: Download IE8

  5. Apparently the tweak I put in caused all the poster information on the left of each post to be hidden in IE.

May take me a few to track down exactly how to get IE to behave. In the mean time, there are 4 other free browsers out there that work perfectly (Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, and Opera)

Also, switching back to the old look should correct the issue also. You can do so at anytime using the drop-down list on the lower left of any page in the forums. Select "IP.Board" for the old one, "Light" for the new one.

  6. Ah, Now I see what JavaJane was talking about.

I made a tweak in the CSS. Let me know if IE7 works correctly again (although IE8 should be used, IE7 is getting old like IE6 and was non-standards compliant from day 1).

Don't get me started about IE6

  7. We just turned off the negative reputation points. Although they were fun, especially in the Politics forum, they proved useless (and actually made some upset). Disagreement with a post now will have to be done via a non-vote.

The forums will highlight anything that gets 10 positive points. So if you think something someone wrote is good, +1 it so others will find it more easily.

  8. Microsoft is not only flagging our mail as spam, they are refusing delivery. Done every thing they want and still they refuse.

    Never did like Microsoft.

Then again, they did finally get back with me. Supposedly in a couple days they'll stop bouncing our email.

  9. I got bored and did an upgrade. So now we have a few new toys to play with.

For those who own an iPhone/iPad, there is now an application for accessing the forums sized just for the small screen. You can grab it at IP Board Communities

For those who can't stand Steve Jobs and use a competitor's smartphone, all you need to do is point your phone's browser at http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/. The forums will default to a mobile version that looks and functions rather well.

And of course there are social networking buttons all over the place now -- facebook, twitter, or whichever you prefer.

The Blog section was totally redone. Looks much better. Every post now has a "Blog this" button.

There's more, but haven't played with it yet.

  10. We've had problems with some sites flagging email that was sent by the forum as spam. Most notably so far, any email to @gmail.com or @hotmail.com addresses. Reference this topic down in the Forum Questions section for more info: i'm not getting emails anymore.

So to make these sites happy, the forum's email address is now GreaseSpot@greasespotcafe.com.

Any notices about private messages or new replies to topics you are tracking will now come from this address.

The old gmail.com address is still valid and we can still receive email from it. But everything outgoing will be from the new address.

If you are still not receiving email from here and you know you should (received a PM, new reply to a topic you're tracking):

    1. Check your spam folder. If it is in there, let me know about it.
    2. If not in spam, verify that the email address you have specified for your account here is valid.

    Thanks

  11. Ugh.

The emails are going out. But it appears the server GS runs on has been put on spam lists again. If you look in your spam folder, you may find them (depending on who handles your email).

Usually happens when some jerks in Korea figure out a way to break into the server and use it to send out massive amounts of spam.

Will take awhile to clean up. It may help help get the notices through to your inbox if you add greasespot@gmail.com to your address book.

  12. Three months later.......by July 2000, five or six region coordinator couples SILENTLY exit twi. Time was ripe to put distance between martindale and themselves.

    In Florida, the L1chts................exit.

    In Texas, the L@llys..................exit.

    In Colorado, the Mosqued@s............exit.

At hq, former reg. couple S@ilers.....exit

    In Michigan, region couple............exit.

    More damage control needed.

    :evilshades:

Later.....mosqued@s came forward with exit strategy on waydale.

The L1chts were in Michigan, were the region coordinators, and moved back to Florida.

  13. Had a little problem with the chat room earlier this week. Should be working fine now.

Also moved the Mr. Trivia guy to his own room where he's constantly dishing out questions without interrupting the main chat. You can find him by clicking on the #gs_trivia button on the bottom of the chat window.

Replacing Mr. Trivia in the main chat room is GS_Bot, who should give you a nice welcome when you enter.

Maybe I can teach him some other tricks latter on.

Also working on putting a line at the bottom of the forum index listing who is in the chat room. Figured out how to do it, just have to finish it.

  14. I've had my GF for 2 years now (practically lives with me) - small white, petite thang, cooks for me, always been good to me.

I go away on holiday for a week, come back and something just doesn't seem right. I asked my Father if he had seen anything happen with my GF and he acts clueless.

So fast forward to 3 weeks later... I'm coming home from work when BAM clear as day, right in my Kitchen I catch my Father red handed with his meat in my GF.

I was ....ed, told him to get his meat out of GF and GTFO, needless to say my GF got turned off. I just couldn't get over it and that night kicked my GF to the curb.

Now it's been 2 weeks since the incident and that I've been without my GF and about 10 minutes ago my Father had the audacity to ask my how my GF has been, when he's the damn reason we ain't together no more.

Should I get off the computer and start swinging at him?

    OR

Pack my stuff and be on my way.

Here's pics of my GF for you guys as I know you'll ask
