  1. It was relentlessly shoved down my throat, and I realized that in order to continue to hang with these nice people, with their friendly little Bible fellowship, who seemed to like me, that there was no way around it. That I was so damaged that I allowed anyone who paid me a little attention, to coerce me into a religion class that I had no interest in, probably speaks more about my sad state, than the merits of the way or the class.

  2. songbooks-

When they came out with the brown one, we were instructed to destroy the blue one, for legal purposes I'm sure. I continued to see blue books for years.

For awhile, the limb leader in CT was singing some song to the tune of 'Take me out to the Ballgame"-It turned into a huge reproof from HQ about singing the correct tune, and not being such a rebel.

I could only scratch my head , wondering why they changed "How Firm a Foundation" to the tune of 'Oh Come all ye Faithful"-making it the 'way corps anthem'.

No big. I'm just trying to hit 3000 posts before the end, for no good reason.

  3. I have to say that in my experience, sitting through pfal over an absurd 50 times, 'instructing' 2 classes, 'undersheperding' I forget how many people,-the overwhelming atmosphere through the vast majority of the class was a struggle to stay awake, alleviated only in 'spots' like vp's more than conquerors comedy routine. The concentrated hours, several nights a week, after working all day, where you could do nothing but sit quietly, seemed mind numbing. For every student on the edge of his seat over sit, there were 2 wondering what they're expected to do, and pretty much going with the program to get it over with. Yes, I'm cynical, but it's my 2 cents.

  4. most of the church epistles underlined for some reason-tons of words 'corrected' in the margins- lots of 'translations according to usage'- endless 'wayisms' and 'insightful' comments- a decaying way sticker on the cover-- as vp would say-'a great big wonderful mess'

  5. I don't know if quota is the right word. I was at a twig coordinators meeting where my last 2 months of 'blue forms' were read to the group by an ordained clod, and demanded I explain 'how come Jack gave this much this week, and not the same amount the next week'. I later told the twig to never have me put their name on that form again, unless they were certain to use the tax write off. I knew that would be no one,as nobody made enough money to write off anyway.

  6. I'm still around, Dot, I just haven't had much to say. That doesn't mean I haven't been reading and keeping up with what's happening around here. I should make a statement of sorts before this place closes, if only to thank Paw.

I'm over at that GSC fb group, though I haven't quite figured how I want to contribute there. It's good that there's at least a contact point, and I'm pleased to see that you're there.

  7. I forget the episode title, but it's the Next Gen follow up to the Borg 2 parter. Worf's foster parents visit the ship, and his father knows all the specifications, while Picard visits his estranged brother and family on earth.

This is one of my favorite episodes, though it's not always easy explaining just why.

unless this is someone else familiar with specifications, and I have the wrong episode.

  8. Well, I'm amazed, and a little jealous ! You must have some 6th sense that brings you to the right places.

That IS the perfect way to meet Yogi. When you came to the fork in the road, you took it.

The older I get, the more I think Yogi just may be my favorite player, ever. I hope you can figure out how to post the pics.

  9. I'm in agreement with your analysis of Buck and McCarver. I also like John Miller very much.

As far as the local TV in my area-well-Vin Scully-'nuff said (at least for another year-I don't THINK he's immortal, but I hope I'm wrong)

  10. Nice to see the enthusiasm, especially from socks, for the series. I'm reading, if not always commenting.

Last year I threw in the towel, figuring no one cared what I had to say about the Yankees. Of course 'Yankees' is like saying 'Obama' around some of our friendly right wingers here.

I'm still hoping it will go 7-Texas better win today for that to have a chance. I know I'm more interested in going to Dodger Stadium when the Giants are in town next year, than I ever have been. Fun team.
