  1. I don't know what you can do with that old Pentium I computer except give it to the nearest homeless shelter. Try getting more memory for it and maybe a new hard drive. But honestly, you might want to consider another new one some day. Just steal one from your workplace.
  2. Don't you know? His brother is that guy from ZZ Top. Sibling rivalry. I always feel like crossing through the middle of the Red Sea when I see him. Hell, at least he is helping people. Can't say I am a better man than he. But it is VERY hard to understand. I remember Mike teaching all of us in the 7th in res one Saturday about the value of starting a car buffing franchise when we went out on the field. He was quite the entrepreneur.
  3. It's hard to convey sarcasm in a post. ;)-->I jest, indeed. It was to illustrate a point. Namely, that something like 99.9999999999% (not accurate) use IE and the other 1% use all the casualties of the browser wars of the 80's and early 90's. Most people do not even know there is any other browser. They think IE is just a part of the OS. And have you ever tried to uninstall IE? Oh, well. I guess Microsoft wins. Glad I own their stock. But the browser wars may not be over: http://www.mozilla.org/ Mozilla war More mozilla A buncha browsers Now give me back my hardware so I can pretend I am a geek. 4. He and his Dad will like Half Life, QuakeIII, America's Army, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and ??? You'll never see your computer again once they discover those. Say bye to it. Your computer now boots up from dead off to being able to open programs in 35 seconds! It was fast to begin with but I made it faster by getting rid of some stuff that was in the way. Oh, and the 3d Pinball comes with XP.
  5. Another thing you can do is just change your email address frequently. Also you can use email at free online email services like Yahoo.com or others. They have Spam filters in place. Yes, you can still get a lot of spam on those too but I find that w=hen I create a new email address it is spam free for a while. With kids it is ruining things. Who wants their children to even have email anymore? It is not a good idea unless you pre-check all their email. They will ultimately get exposed to porn and all kinds of other crap which is not a good thing for children! There are ways to defeat this but it is hard work. Outlook 2002 & 2003 (the full blown version) has some pretty good spam filtering ability built in. You just have to learn how to configure it. I have heard of a few Christian Interntet Service providers who take it upon themselves to filter and censor content at the server level. That might be good for kids. This is a growing problem that I would like to see addressed with legislation. Hell, divert some of the billions of dollars in war money to make sure our children are not bombarded by XXX rated advertisers! (Off my soapbox)
  6. Mike Fertxxta and Mary Wehmanxx were ahead of their time. Visionaries! I almost did my research paper on Mike but it got too deep to handle. Even Walter could not help me. I think they should have married. What ever happened to Albert, Mrs. W's brother? Do any of you know who I mean? I think his job was to keep evil spirits away from the Root, sort of like a scarecrow ministry.
  7. I slept in right through the resurrection. Why couldn't he have arose at around 10:30 or so? Or why couldn't he have had an early resurrection and a later one for some of us with families? Tom, will you seek wisdom from above about this? Can this be changed? I'l be glad to re-write the scriptures if given special permission to do so.
  8. It's also been 10 years today since the tradgedy at Waco with the Branch Davidians. My thoughts and prayers go out especially to the 21 children who were released right before the tragedy. As teens and young adults today, they have had to deal with this in ways we can never imagine. May they continue to be strong. Some of us can understand a little bit.
  9. I have a question for TomTuttle. Why do you always end all your letters with: "Sincerely, Holding it forth, In Him Tom Tuttle" Can you stop that, please.
  10. I was so religious. I really, really DID get all my Aerobics points for 2 whole years. Thanks, some of you 9th Corps, for corrupting me aerobically and spiritually (you know who you are.) I didn't fall asleep in class so much in my final year. And my Adidas lasted much longer. One place I want some of my ashes is in a butt can somewhere so I can still smoke in the after life.
  11. Gateway was more expensive than Dell for slighlty lesser components. Gateway is going down! They better do something fast. Dell dominates for the every day user. Yes, their older stuff was not so good. But they have improved greatly the last 2 years. Lousy tech support, but solid mainstream hardware. I gaurantee those systems that are down all the time are NOT Pentium 4's. For me, a power user, Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq and any other other mainstream box is CRAP. Workable... but CRAP. This on the other hand...... $4,100 gamer supreme Pick all the highest components of that link incl. 1GB ram and triple 22" monitors with 7 speaker klipsch 500 watt system, 3.06 Intel processor, Raid configuration with three 180GB hard drives, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, and lots of pretty sound activated lights and fans and you will start to see what I mean. Maybe I should ordered one of those for Ex's kid. He would thank me when he was older. PS - Your Dell arrived today. I'll break it open this weekend. 12. Excellent site for Tweaks you can do within XP to make things run better. However, use caution, and just do one thing at a time. and wait a few days to see if there are any problems caused by some of these tweaks. Then try another one. Some of these are awesome. One in particular helped me solve a problem and enabled me to obtain a 50 second restart! http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/performance_tweaks.asp
  13. I was thinking of having some of my ashes scattered in several different places that I loved. But it makes me nervous because if one of ya'll come along and raise me from the dead I will be in a whole bunch of pieces like the scarecrow in Wizard of OZ. Or just one part of me will get raised if the community believing is too low in on of my other resting places. What should I do?
  14. Does someone who is blind see colors when they are on acid? Speakin of blind guys. Simoneon...I worked with Richard C**k in Erie (almost 30 years ago.) We were dishwashers at The Station for a while. Lot of funny stories about that. Lets just put it this way. Blind dudes shouldn't be dishwashers.
  15. Beeeeeep! "This is God. I am away right now. Leave a message from me or for me in the language of the people present and I'll get back to you."
  16. Excouchpotato, We're still here now. Simon, Simon, it hath been revealed to me that thou woulds't know these, thy lost sheep from 1974. somewhere in a northern state with a big cold .... lake in an errie city: Alas, all except me have gone astray. I am bottom left next to my WOW brother who went into an asylum after this year. (Was it me or was it caused by Rover Wayne Pierce?) Notice the kitty Sue is holding. Pre-no pets era in TWI. Also pictured are some of our fruit(s). [This message was edited by igotout on April 13, 2003 at 15:49.]
  17. Dell was ordered today. You are gonna love it. 512MB DDR SDRAM, 64 MB Nvidia graphics, 19" monitor, 2.53 Intel processor, 120GB hard drive, integrated NIC card for your cable modem, DVD player, CDRW, XP Home, Word, Excel, Outlook. These things are getting so cheap. What a bargain. I should receive it next week.
  18. Solid, Pawtucket. Seems a bit faster to me, too on both Cable and DSL. JR [This message was edited by igotout on April 14, 2003 at 23:40.]
  19. This has been put on the back burner for a few weeks because I have to research and purchase a laptop and configure it with all the programs needed. Laptops have come a long way as can be evidenced by this one! Alienware Mobile
  20. Does anyone know if Wevwend Way Wydenhammer and his wonderful wife Shirwey are still in? Does anyone remember Way & Shirwey?
  21. Go for it. Go out and get a new one. You only live once. Toss that "dinoputer". Why not get broadband high speed internet access while you are at it?
  22. Oh, and also... there us not really anything you can just take out of the box and plug in and go. I mean you can and it will work but unfortunately there is a lot of configuration to do with a new computer, especially regarding the operating system and some of the hardware as well. A a good bit of the work is in getting rid of all the junk they give you preinstalled on your computer for advertising reasons and to get you to buy their product. Sometimes when I get a new ready made computer from a Dell or equivalent I feel like just wiping the hard drive clean and starting with a fresh install. It's a little ridiculous sometimes.
  23. I've shopped around lately, in order to purchase for a couple of my employees and a neighbor. Dell is simply cheaper and more bang for the buck. Both are good but there is a reason Dell is huge and profitable and Gateway is struggling with losses. Never lease a computer in this day and time unless you are heavily cash strapped. Heck, just buy one on payments or credit card if you have to. Leasing makes no sense except for maybe a laptop for a trip or something like that. Steer clear of HP, Compaq. THey are cheap as hell but.... they are cheap as hell. Alienware http://www.alienware.com/ can now be also purchased at Best Buy. Steer clear. Too expensive. You are paying for pretty colors and some nice speakers. Nice components but too expensive for the everyday user. Though I personally will not buy a Dell again (I own 7 of them), I recommend them as the best for the everyday user. Go to Dell.com begin your selection. The price will adjust as you piece together the components you want. Come back here to this thread and I'll help you choose piece by piece. No flopppy drives come with Dells anymore. They are the first. All others will follow within a few years. Floppy's are about dead. They take up space and resources. Same is true of Zip Drives.
  24. I agree with Zixar. Man, that computer is ancient by todays standards! A lot has happened in 5 years. Windows XP is a must - no question about it. Pentium 4 processor or equivalent is a must Minimum 256 meg of ram is a must. 32 meg graphics card minimum is a must Anything less is causing counterproductivity and could actually be COSTING you money in greater scheme of things. This is not warp speed, just the beginning stages of what is a normal computing experience. Best thing you can do is to throw that computer away. I have one that I will be throwing away soon and it is a Pentium II which I paid $1800 for. It hard to even give older computers away anymore. It is a disservice.
