  1. My home computer is NOT A DELL. (Sorry Excathedra. Yours will not quite be like this one)
  2. (Got this one from Woody's, modified a bit) CHANGING SCREENTIPS ON SHORTCUTS You probably already have your icons and shortcuts on the Quick Launch Toolbar and other places. But I bet you're fed up with the Screentips - also known as Tooltips - the yellow messages that appear when you hover your mouse over the icons. The Screentips for Office 2003 are particularly unbearable. Look at this one from Word 2003. It says: "Microsoft Office Word 2003 / Create and edit text and graphics in letters, reports, Web pages, or e-mail messages by using Microsoft Word." Sheeeeesh. That's even worse than the Screentips in Office XP! It's easy to change the Screentips - if you know how. Right-click on the icon and choose Properties. The Screentip is created by changing the text in the top box on the General tab, and appending the text in the Comment box at the bottom of the Shortcut tab. You can change either or both. For example, I click on the General tab, and change the top box to say, simply, Word. Then I click on the Shortcut tab and delete everything in the Comment box. Now when I hover my mouse over the Word icon in the Quick Launch Toolbar, it says "Word". (There's a nice minimalist feeling to that, eh?) Before it used to say "Microsoft Word / Create and edit text and graphics in letters, reports, Web pages, or e-mail messages by using Microsoft Word."
  3. Installed a nice new printer for a nice person tonight. Aren't I nice?

  5. Datway - Steve VanZandt (sp) from Bruce Springsteen's group. would agree with you. That is what he basically said on a talk show the other night. He said it has become too comercialized due to videos and other marketing. They go with what sells and therefore a lot of true talent is missed. He said this was not true in the 60's, early 70's. He said there is a dearth of good stuff right now. He has a radio syndication that is popular and growing because he plays non mainstream stuff that is overlooked as well as introduces new garage bands. He is pretty knowledgeable it appears. After all, he is in the business for sure.
  6. Cool! I've never started a new page of posts before. Damn you 9th Corps! You talk too much. No Corps will ever catch you. I think we should just make one giant Corps thread with all Corps involved. You know, kinda like a perpetual cyber Corps Week. Does anyone want to share, just stand up and go to the nearest microphone.
  7. How do I do a cyber handshake.
  8. Johnny - give my regards to all your wives. (You lucky bastard). Were they from various Corps? Can I move to your country where it is acceptable? I think it is God's will.
  9. Oh, and in caase I was not clear, that link in my post above is a picture of THE Bally's where a tall bald guy works.
  10. Rocky - I know it must be difficult. Just keep fighting as you said. Don't give up yet try not to get too stressed over it if you can. You have your life to live too. I am sure it will all work out for the best. JR
  11. Bally Boy Experientialthedra - we need to go for some fitness this summer. SimonZeee - get your mind out of the pit. Though you did not say it, I know what you were thinking about this.....Tuttle..... "Now's the time to slip it to him, For he cannot read his tombstone when he's dead." Just what is the meaning of this prose...slip it to him? Ya'll need to smoke these things out and have a clean thread.
  12. __________________________________________ But more people will just download more MP3's instead of purchasing CDs. ___________________________________ Steve, I think you are right about that from what I can tell. Unfortunately (or fortunately for some) I can almost gaurantee this same thing is going to happen with DVD's! A person will rent from Blockbuster, go home and just make a perfect copy as described by Zixar so succintly. In fact while he's at it he he will make an extra copy for his brother and grandma. At any given time thereafter, he will be able to burn another copy. Talk about revenue loss! However, I think we are starting to see a slowdown in MP3's. I still see people with lots of MP3's buying CD's and more so now than before when it was a novelty. Some MP3's sound lousy. But the CD's are excellent quality. Microsoft has nailed it! They need to follow their lead. How many of us copied Windows 98 or Office. (C'mon...get honest.) Try doing that with a Microsoft product today and you will not be very successful. Their registration process prevents pirating for the most part. The music industry needs technology that will help prevent copying. I would not want to be in their shoes.
  13. I don't know if I can quite "guzzle a 6 pack" like we used to do but I am sure I'll guzzle a few Samual Adams' brews in celebration.
  14. I have reported you to the FBI. Expect Men in Black to show up at your doorstep soon. Zixar, I like the Moonshine analogy. (I be from Kentucy originally). So this person who has over 3,000 MP3's.... is he stealing? From whom? Who has he harmed? It appears he has not broken the laws of the land if he has his file sharing capabilities turned off in his Options in his Kazaa lite program so that others can not download from him. I know of a teenager who recently PURCHASED a Donovan CD because she was able to discover Donovan by downloading a few of his songs. In times past she may have never heard or heard of Donovan. This is an incident where downloaded MP3's helped put money into an artists pocket. If this popularity grew it could mean a revived career. Just another viewpoint.
  15. I know of someone who has over 3,000 MP3's and counting. Can he be arrested for owning those? Is it against the law for him to possess those? Has he broken laws by downloading those? ( I really am asking, I do not know the laws in this matter). If so, half our high school students and 3/4 of our college students will be in jail someday. 16. Thanks, Kit. But really, I am not a member of CFF (though I play one on TV). I am going to bungee jump in celebration of my 50th birthday. Hopefully here: http://www.bungee.com/bzapp/photos/lv_tower_wow.html Also in borrowing an idea from a 6th Corps girl, I am requesting a pie in the face from my wife and two kids. They are eager to oblige that.
  17. Yeah, I have heard good things about Nero as well.
  18. I prefer Norton Antivirus 2003. But be sure to turn off the dumb 'Office Plug in which slows performance. I also like to turn off Auto Protect. Email is still scanned in & out. But I believe Auto Protect slows down the system. Just have to use caution when downloading or installing something. Not usre if Symantec ever fixed the bug I pointed out to them. They just brushed it under the carpet at the time to avoid bad press. Scheduled weekly virus scans will not happen while you are logged off. This was not the case with NAV 2001. But with 2002 and probably 2003 his does not happen. That's a real problem. John R.
  19. That satellite photo is awesome, Rocky. I feel like a spy. It is an odd feeling to see that. From the satellite photo everything appears the same. I can not tell if they have torn down that old Gymnasium building. But it looks like the circular drive is as it was when we were there, going all the way around. #1 is Wierwille Library. #6 is Owens #5 is Uncle Harry #8 is puzzling. Does not match the satellite photo at all. Turned the wrong way. It would have been the old Kipp Hall. Next to that according the satellite photo is what we used to call Emporia Hall. Can anyone see the pond? The maintenance shop and track still look intact.
  20. Uninstall Kazaa. Instead find the free Kazaa lite and install it. Kazaa lite is modified especially to avoid the many pop up ads that come with the regular version of Kazaa. Once you have your MP3's downloaded to your hard drive it is a matter of just burning (copying) them on a CD. You will need to have software to do this. I like Roxio's Easy CD Creator Platinum. I think there may be some basic CD burning software built into windows XP. Try right clicking on the MP3 file and see if you find a menu for "Copy to CD" or something like that. Now if you have MP3's on a CD they may not play in a regular CD Player unless it is compatible. You might have to convert those MP3's to the type of file that can be played on a home CD player or car player. Easy CD Creator and other burning software does this. John R. Downloading and copyng rented DVD's will be next. DVD burners are here to stay and getting cheaper all the time. If I were an executive in the the music and movie industry I would be worried.
  21. I'm a little confused cause it has been a long time. But I think Owens is now #6 Emporia Christion School. Uncle Harry Hall is now #1 National Teachers But I am not sure what #5 was. Also notice how the circular drive cuts trough now and does not circle all way around to 12th Ave. anymore. #4 is where we ate and laughed a lot and got yelled at a lot. Something seems missing beside # 8? Or, perhaps # 8 is new. John R.
  22. Did any of ya'll know Steve Tully? I posted a picture of him I found in my collection on 7th Corps thread. He was a great guy. You shoulda heard how LCM tore him to shreds publicly cuz he had an accident at Home Depot (off the Word ya know). Bastard! Sorry. Now back to the humor.
  23. If these grounds could talk what would they say? Campus Today
  24. In honor of a good man. Steve, we loved you very much. See you again some day, man.
  25. This type of thread comes up once in a while. There were lots of these outrageous stories. Most all of us believed them because the teachers believed them so passionately including THE MAN himself. After a while it became clear that they were nuts, basically. We used to just ignore their dumb stories. It reminds me a little of David Koresh and Jim Jones and others of small mind. Rev. Chris Gxxx was a huge believer in these myths and an inventor of some of them. He fueled these ridiculous egotistical fires as did LCM. Did you know that TWI prevented the certain overthrow of the USA by all the witnessing we did and by the production and promotion of America Awakes? It was all going to happen by the bi-centennial in 1976. Heck, I still have my copy of "The Secret new Constitution" which had been drafted by the evil powers, the Catholic church being foremost among them! America Awakes drove back the spirit power. Our country was saved! Thank God all those WOW's signed up. Just in the nick of time. Their door to door and street witnessing changed destiny! A more recent example in TWI II was Y2K. Quote from LCM and other leaders: "It was the preparation on the household of The Way that kept anything from happening." I got so sick of hearing about all the things we needed to do to get ready for the "big day". In rebellion of their stupidity, I purposly did all the following at the stroke of midnight: Was logged on to the intenet on a network. Was watching TV Had lots of lights and electricity on Made a bank transfer online. Had some water running. Made a phone call. Unlocked my doors. Had no gun or ammo ready in case of looters. Made an airline reservation. Did not pray. Of course I could not tell any leadership I did this or it would have meant severe reprimand if not Mark and Avoid. Nothing happened. Then I went to bed. John R.
