  1. 60's always make me think of Woodstock dammit! I was 16 and was not allowed to go. I came very close to running away and hitchiking there but I didn't. But a funny thing...when I asked all my friends who went "So, how was Woodstock?" Their reply was pretty much the same "Lousy, too many people, couldn't see the stage, could bearly hear the music, bad sound, rainy, muddy." They were glad to be back. They told me I didn't miss much. Today when I ask them about it I am sure they would say, "Oh, yeah! Part of a historic event, the atmosphere was awesome, peace & love and good things everywhere." But I still wish I could have gone. I tried to make up for it by going to one 3 years later called "Bull Island Soda Pop Festival" in Indiana in September 1972. I am sure you have not heard of it, although the newspaper clipping states there were up to 275,000 people there. It turned out out be a scam. Very few groups showed. Food & water were almost non existent. It was an open drugstore. Riots ensued. 3 days of drugs, heat, and hunger. Since I lived only an hour away and slept in my car I decided to stay after to see what it looked like after everyone was gone. It reminded me of a pig sty. I believe it may have been the last big "open" style rock festival from that era. The counterculture of the 60's was an abject failure it appeared.
  2. Tommy & Dianne Whelen (sp) just above and to the right of Mrs Wierwille's hat. They were cool.
  3. Joseph & Paula right above CG's big asx white cowboy hat. They are still in TWI to this very day. (Yeah, I am puzzled by that too.) I think they are LC's of NC.....if you can even call anything a Limb...... more like a branch.
  4. Is that you Sunesis? This is the section of the picture, upper left quadrant below the large boulder.
  5. Yeah but it is so slow... yeah it works but I swore off modems about three years ago. Got one but hate using it. Even broadband to broadband is cumbersome but waaay better than dialup. Disadvantage is that IP address changes frequently on broadband. Modem is always the same phone number. There are things that are faster but I have no experience with them. Maybe a T3 line or Terminal Server.
  6. Yeah it's a little fuzzy. The original picture is not great quality to begin with. I want to now who that is on the very top left standing all alone there by themselves. I can't make it out. I also see Billy Britt on the far right on the very end, middle. We went out to dinner with him this year in New York City where he lives. He started with another Corps and ended up graduating with 7th.
  7. Well now that there are at least 2 females in this group I wanna go WOW now brown cows. I'll be the driver. I have a van and a truck and I know how to warsh windows as a part time job. "I just vant the da knowldge"
  8. Now that you have broadband it is available for someone to connect to your PC with a product like PC Anywhere. The person can remotely work on your computer and check things out. The person actually sees your screen on theirs. They take control of your mouse too and literally operate your computer from theirs. I use it all the time and its is pretty useful for troubleshooting purposes. XP has some of these capabilities built in but I have not tried them out yet.
  9. Having started with Napster years ago, I got spoiled. There still has never been anything like it because so many people were on at once. You could find any song...I mean any song. It was incredible. I got a few gems before they were shut down. I have used Morpheus, Aimster and a few others and am currently on Kaza lite like ya'll. (My 15 year old has 4,000 songs, 12 gigs worth). At my workplace where a small group of us use DSL we have over 3,500 songs. Someone told me that certain Newsgroups have some nice action too. Haven't checked it out yet. I am looking for this obscure song. If you find it I would appreciate the help. I kinda liked the lyrics: Steve Earl & the Dukes - Jerusalem
  10. Click here for all manner of boot disks You can also boot up with the windows CD in place if you make your CD your 1st item to be recognized upon boot up. (I just removed my useless floppy drive and installed a front panel USB2 and Firewire ports where it used to be.)
  11. I'll get out my magnifying glass and try to find you. Dean Boonstra upper right leaning on a tree by himself. Ian McMillan dead center sitting with ???. Mark Gregus in front right behind Rosanne Holdren's hat. (He still lives here in Tampa) Jeeeem Ferraro to the far left in the middle, white hat on sitting next to Cheryl ? (maiden name). Still lives in New Knoxville but not in TWI. Notice Craig & Donna together (when they were still sane) in the front left just behind Daniel Hernandez. Sam Marsh is on that big rock in front on the right sitting with two girls (figures.) [This message was edited by igotout on November 28, 2002 at 15:58.]
  12. Yeah Steve, Blair Allen was there with us. (Didn't he later make the movie "Blair Witch Project".) Lifted up - what happened? Gunnysack was beautiful but it was damn cold out there. I was on the first LEAD group and we went to the mountains around Gunnision for our adventure. Also I worked there for a few months doing some kind of manual labor involving walls and cement and other hard work to earn my $30. a month. John R.
  13. I heard ya'll went WOW now and then. "You've decided to be and Ambaaaa aaa aaa *** ador" Congratulations to ya'll. I'll be sure to sing to ya when you return: "It's good to be (clap) home again, it's good to have peace within, My Father and me were reconciled and all my wrongs have been made right My mind is (clap) satisfied, I feel so good inside, My feet are walking in the right direction, everything’s all right.” and from Joyful Noise volumes I, II, III "Ready to Go, Ready to go, Got my affairs in order, and I'm ready to go He might come tomorrow While I'm singing this song you know If he does Ill never finish it, Cause I'm ready to go" You must only listen to these volumes of music this year...and no TV. Have fun finding babes. [This message was edited by igotout on November 25, 2002 at 23:41.]
  14. My 15 year old daughter, her Mom & me went to a Bruce Springsteen concert last night. Being a guitar player I think my daughter appreciated SOME of the tunes but at other times she looked a little bored and puzzled, what with all us middle aged folks there. Yet I trust it will be a fond memory for her in years to come. So here are a few observations as a parent of a wonderful teen: To start with, one thing that is here to stay, (whether right or wrong, you decide), is music downloads. The kids of today have millions of songs trading around. (BEing a computer enthusiast, I must admit that I was a major Napster fan myself before they were shut down..... got some real gems! There are others but there will never be another Napster.) Here are some popular artists of today among my 15 year olds' almost 4,000 songs (12 gigs worth) Dashboard Confessional Jimmy Eat World The Vandals Sublime (Don't worry, I am not familiar with them either.) Some of the categories are: Ska (I don't know what it means) Punk (I sort of know what it means...hint..it's not the same meaning as was used in the 80's) Emo (stands for emotional I think) Rock (yet this category contains many groups I have not heard of such as Red Elvises) There is no category called Oldies in her collection..... I think the concept can not yet exist in a 15 year olds' mind. Bruce Springsteen is listed under her category called "Classic". Damn evil kids! (Just kidding) John Richeson Tampa, FL
  15. Steve, stop that. I have a picture of a system that a guy put together that has 9, yes 9 - 21" monitors all side by side and on top, 3x3 in a wall in front of him. He used 3 of these Matrox cards that provide triple monitor support: http://www.matrox.com/mga/archive_story/oc...56mb_launch.cfm http://www.motherboards.org/articlesd/hard...ews/1198_4.html Let the drooling begin!! 16. Zixar - actually I was trying to say that a BIOS update is NOT so easy and may NOT be necessary. I was discouraging doing it because god forbid if you flash the bios with the wrong information it could be a real disaster. However, I think they are making it easier to do these days. I have a feeling that a BIOS update is not related to her probs. But I could be wrong. Last resort I say. Yet when I get a new computer it is one of the first things I do. Anyway, Krys, make sure you have the latest version of Internet Explorer by downloading it from Windows Updates. Make sure you have administrative rights or are logged in as Administrator when installing anything. By downloading the newest version of IE you are in effect reinstalling it. Built in to that whole install is the latest version of Outlook Express too. Good luck (I love saying that phrase now). Keep us posted as to your results. PS - I did not know there was such a thing as a cable modem driver. But then again, I am no professional, just a hobbyist. Is this an internal cable modem? Most are external and XP seems to have everything needed already to handle it. Hmmm.
  17. Did you delete ZA as you said you were going to do? Is your computer a pentium 3 or pentium 4. What kind is it and how much memory does it have in it. What kind of Motherboard and version of Bios do you have. Go to start, run and type in msinfo32.exe to find out some of these things. Also what version of Internet Explorer are you using. Download all the windows updates....all of them. At least we can eliminate those as possibilities. The updates alone may fix your problem. I doubt if you need a bios upgrade unless your computer is old. IT is not an easy thing to do and unnecessary for the most part as is reinstalling your XP operating system. More than likely your porblems are caused by something simple. A conflict of some kind. Under what conditions do errors happen and what are you using at the time? Also - one more thing. Go to Start / Programs / Startup. Is anything there? If it is, delete it.
  18. Cathy, don't worry, you are not alone. I am convinced that most women just do not appreciate computer hardware, bless your hearts. My wife is far more interested in a Longaberger basket than an awesome 21" Sony Trinitron monitor or the latest 128mb Graphics card. Her eyes kind of glass over when it comes to hardware as mine do when baskets are being discussed. Anyway - Flat panels are nice...and expensive... Though more expensive, they are not as good as the tube monitors. But some day this could change. Best monitor made is here but it is $2000: 24" Sony Trinitron Second best is here and is a more realistic $800 (check out the resolutions on these) I settled for two of these side by side on my main system: 21" Sony Trinitron Same can be said of the Plasma TV's I hear. Not as good as some other high end TV's yet more expensive. But you can't beat the space savings on flat products or their cool looks. Cathy, some day when you go Cable yo will really notice a difference. IT is probably $50 a month. But consider this: You will be ditching your current ISP service You may be able to get rid of a phone line. Up to $20 per month. So for perhaps $10 more per month you will get one of the fastest internet connections in the world. The time you save in your internet usage will add up to hundreds of hours eventually in productivity. I have never seen anyone switch back to dial up once they have had a taste of high speed. 19. I was sinking...... it was good to meet you this year. Your family is wonderful. Looking forward to a visit again. Next time we are in Orlando we will definitely hook up with ya'll. God bless, John Richeson Tampa, FL
  20. In Windows 98 I would still recommend taking the thing out because of the lame way 98 handles IRQ's. Less is better with that Operating system. Simplify as much as possible. Do you really think you will need it? My experience with both Cable and DSL is that it does not "go out" that much. If it does it's not long before it is back. My advice is remove it and keep it in case you really, really need it that bad. If you are desperate you could always pop it back in or just go to the local library to check your email and such. Cathy it is possible you have a video card built right into the motherboard. Or you may not be seeing it in Device manager. Try this instead: To determine the video adapter 1. Right-click your computer desktop, and then click Properties. 2. On the Display Properties dialog, on the Settings tab, click Advanced. 3. On the Properties dialog for your video adapter, click the Adapter tab. The video adapter should be displayed. The chip info can be found in the Adapter Information box. Also try finding information here: Click Start, click Run. In the Run window type msinfo32.exe and hit enter. This is your System Information window. Under Components click on display and see if it gives you the name there. If you have onboard video it may have to be disabled in order for you to use a standard PCI graphics card. The same is true for onboard sound but don't concern yourself with your sound at this point. John R.
  21. Maybe it is an image of Tom Tuttle trying to become one with RR.
  22. Looks awesome! I think I need to find time for another hobby. Are you able to view Leonid with it or is it more for viewing planets and such?
  23. What's up with this?. Look what happened to my picture after reading these posts. I am not the one who is a bad influence on ye younger Corps. Do we have some kinda counterfeit here ???????? Help Ex!!!
  24. Garth, others, believe me, the router method as Zixar shared is much better than Zone Alarm. I have used both and have achieved an equal amount of security with the broadband router (not a hub, Cathy, there is a difference). Zone Alarm, Norton and other software firewall products are probably more versatile but why have another piece of software to gum up the works. What I liked about getting rid of ZA and going with the router is I was able to just plug the dumb thing in and forget about it. When I test the security here: https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 I get excellent results, near stealth. I just need something that does its job and leaves me alone, kind of like a keyboard. Plus you can share the internet connection with out having to resort to using the lame Internet Connection Sharing software that is offered within Windows or any other Proxy type software. Cathy - take the advice of DatWay poster and ged rid of all you memory and replace it with 256MB of ram. It's dirt cheap these days. It is the single most important thing you can do other than buy a new computer with Pentium 4 and XP. The seconed most important thing you can do is to get a new graphics card. I am guessing that your current one is a dinosaur. (But please post what it is anyway. It can be found in Device Manager. They are easy to remove and install. (I bet a guy named Cliff would do it for you.) Get a graphics card that is 32mb at the very least if you can even find those anymore. Try Best Buy. But a 64MB graphics card might even be within budget these days now that the 128's are becoming prevalent. (Those are awesome with P4 and modern equipment). Finally - remove your 56k dial up modem. It is one less piece of hardware for Windows to deal with. Once again, very easy to remove. You are going to possible need a Windows 98 CD for some of this. Just keep it in the CD tray while you are doing some of these things until you are finished and back up and running. Zixar- some people have all the toys. I want your telescope.
  25. Hey, Zix, by the way when can we in Florida best view the upcoming Leonid? Is it necessary to go out in the country to avoid light pollution? Though we are in a populated area I can find some isolated places that are fairly dark without having to drive so far out. Would that work? What about finding one of those astronomy groups who may gather for the show? Last year it was awesome. Our kids will never forget it.
