Were they videoing their classes so they didn't have to attend?

    George

Now that's an idea isn't it,  but not the right one here.  In this case, scientists were working in a laboratory.

No.  This is one case where scientists weren't being scientific.

They were still working, however, I don't mean to throw anybody off track, but the reason for the webcam didn't have much to do with science.

  2. Alright, nobody knows then.

In May of 1945, the Japanese dropped incendiary bombs by float planes into a forest near Klamath Falls, Oregon, 20 miles near the northern border of California where a church group, a minister and his wife 6 months pregnant with 5 of their parish children were going on a picnic near an old logging town named Bly, Oregon.  A little escape (so they thought) amid the bubbling brooks and ponderosa pines.  While the minister parked his car on an old gravel road, his wife and the kids all  ages between 11 and 14, began to take a stroll down to a knoll that led to a stream when one of the five, a 13 yr. old girl spotted what looked like a white canvas on the forest floor and got everyone's attention to come take a look.  The wife called out to her husband, "It looks like some kind of balloon", standing 50 ft away.

Before the minister could shout a warning the girl began to touch and tug at it when the device exploded, killing all five children and the minister's wife and unborn child "almost instantly".   What a gruesome thing to happen.  Sadly, the minister's wife may not have died right away and the minister had tried to beat his wife's burning clothes with his hands.

    Next trivia.

Why did scientists invent the first webcam?  If I may elaborate, what were they trying to monitor or watch?

I would imagine it was a western state.

That's affirmative George, but it was no where near San Francisco.

I'll be shocked if anyone here knows this.

Well, given, it's not everyday household information that many would know, but here where I live, there are many who would know something about the only Japanese attack on the continental mainland that took loss of life.

  4. During WW 2, the Japanese made over 9000 balloon bomb attacks on the continental US with only an estimated 300 landing , but only one of these resulted in the deaths of civilians,  Name the state and approximate vicinity in the state, e.g., Northern, Southern, Western, Eastern in which it happened and how many civilians died?  Extra points if you can  name the rural town , or the closest city 50 miles away it happened in .

  5. Yes that's right.  Billy Joel's has been divorced three times, married a fourth time, and no doubt, that has to add more pressure financially.  BJ just released a new album this week which I hope has got some hits on it.   "Turn the Lights Back On" it's called.  I didn't know anything about the embezzlement WordWolf.  That had to be rough on him.

  6. "I've been searching for something
    Taken out of my soul
    Something I'd never lose
    Something somebody stole

I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is I've been looking for"

"In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
    Through the jungle of doubt
    To a river so deep
I know I'm searching for something
    Something so undefined
That it can only be seen
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night

I'm not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That runs to the promised land"

  7. Yep, you got enough Raf. I figured you might.  "Staring at my tits" is Stranger than Fiction.   You're right, it is bizarre.  The line "I suggest you pick up the dog poop" is  Kate and Leopold as is "the greatest erection on the continent" quote.  There is an Office Space line also, "Okay, sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays".  Very Impressive Raf.

FFT  ""It's a dangerous thing, ambition. It practically ruined Mickey Mouse's career". is a quote by Rex Reed from 1970 film Myra Breckinridge.

Oh, alright.  No one got "Honey Pie" so I'll go again.
