  1. waysider... BINGO... you win.... yes.. it's post #144

I was referring to the links that Mark O'Malley posted on this page, post #144.

He posts about 5 links.... one of which is: 1978 - The Current Psychological Hoax

I clicked on this link...which took me to a thread from 2002.... where Microbe posts....

    QUOTE( Microbe @ Jun 30 2002, 08:37 PM) *

.....I recently saw "A Beautiful Mind" and wonder if that was not where our MOG was? (Not that he had a "beautful" mind, the delusions I mean.) I remember him telling the Corps about the times he would sit in a chair in his "room" for hours and hours, under such incredible stress that all he could do was hang on until it was clear that Michael had won that particular battle. It required his total concentration and nothing helped. People (his wife etc) had to just leave him alone in the dark for extended periods of time. He described it as something like mental torture. He stood in the GAP! He never mentioned Jesus Christ as far as I remember. At the time it sounded to me (not a doctor - ok) like the man was suffering anxiety attacks. He also said he had trouble sleeping and was seeking medical attention. His MD, a believer, of course dismissed this and calmed his concerns about mental stress. Of course he was sound minded-he just had to save the world!

I'm not sure which page I found this post of Microbe's ... i'd have to go and look again.

    Mark,

Thanks for bringing up those threads.... I looked at a couple of them and had to stop to pick my jaw up after reading what Microbe wrote here about VPW in the Psychological Hoax 1978 thread .

And these lads want to carry on this man's legacy???????????????????????????????

  3. OK... back...

Zal in not Nikki's father... though Zal was Canadian.. he passed away in 2002 of con genitive heart disease. Interesting to read up on this history...very interesting.

I do wonder if they are related though?

  4. Hi there, A la P.

That whole Alison/Robert CD is totally Killah!

I highly recommend giving a listen to Your Long Journey. ( a Doc Watson tune)

    Re: Nikki

Thank you so much for calling my attention to her.

What a talented young lady she is, indeed.

Just wondering----Is she related to the late Zal Yanovski from Lovin' Spoonful and Mugwumps?

    Waysider,

I have no idea about Zal and Nikki being related. All I heard was that her parents were into music....whatever that means. I'd have to do some research?

I know that John Sebastian played with the loving spoonful....but I always thought that that group was 'english' except for John.

Now you've got me curious... i must find out~!!! <_<

  5. I have this album....yet I just saw this video....Interesting... when I was listening to one of Paw's podcasts... with his cousin from Ireland...he mentioned this album. Now the interesting part for me was ... that Paw's cousin mentions that when Robert Plant started the album with Alison, that she gave him some singing lessons... :biglaugh: Thank you Alison!!!! You've done the musical world a service! ( I can hear all the Who fans saying they would like strangle me right about now.)

  6. ... would occasionally throw open my bedroom door (a room I shared with my WOW sister) to make sure we were really awake.

Where was bonehead born? In a barn?

Had he never heard of knocking before entering a room?

sheeshhhhh.......... pathetic... basic human skills missing... and he called himself a LEADER

My eyes just won't stop rolling

maybe the one-eyed monster should have been put to bed before midnight, eh ?

    Excie....

    TOUCHÉ!!!!!!!

  7. Have semi-scrolled through most of the posts here.

This is the red flag for me here..

"Program to be administered on an honor basis. Any volunteer may be dismissed at any time and/or program may be cancelled at the sole discretion of those charged with oversight."

YOU ARE AT THEIR BECKON CALL...NOT KNOWING FROM ONE DAY TO THE NEXT IF YOU"RE OUTTA" THERE!!! WHAT are the rules? no one is told.. they hold the rule book and it's written in pencil.

Too much control for one 'wood pilling' program....I think!!

SHEESHHHHHHH................................WAKE UP AND SMELL THE 'WHATEVER IT IS' THEY'RE COOKING IN THAT HUGE PIT!!

(Actually that pit looks like something you'd bury someone in ... maybe someone asking too many questions about the rusty truck?)

Why aren't these young handsome lads building a future for their lives??? Families, futures, careers???? I don't get it?

  8. In bed by midnight...what a bunch of Horse .......

They did this so that all their little worker bees could have plenty of rest and be ready to perform their 'duties' and not miss out on stringing chairs for their beloved classes, or washing toilets for their beloved leaders!!!

No such thing as staying up late cause you're having any FUN and maybe sleeping in and 'waste' the day away. God Forbid you'd have a day where you might do what YOU would like to do!!!

What did I do when I left twi... I bought myself a decent stereo, bought cds and played my music REAL loud... all day long!!!

  9. Don...

    Wow..there you be!!!!!!!

Yes... i got chocked up watching her and a few goosebumps running up and down my back!!!

this stuff runs thru' her veins... it's not about her.. it's about the music... such a maturity to her.

but, alas, no parlez vous francais!!!.........thanks! that's why i translated (roughly) what was said before and after the song.

you can check out some other videos of hers as well as download a few songs for free on the website mentioned on youtube.

  10. Get ready to get your musical socks blown off....Nikki is 13 and is from Montreal... in this video it is announced that she has just recorded an album along side Stevie Wonder. Aretha Franklin and Nathalie Cole. Also she has had a recording contract with VERVE.She will be performing at Carnegie Hall for her 14th birthday.Last year she performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival as well as the Toronto Jazz Festival after. This song is one of the most difficult of Ella Fitgerald songs to interpret. When asked at the end of this interview why Ella, she said: "Ella is timeless. She sang from the age of 16 til the time of her death." The interviewer said, "how did you find Ella, it was your parents right? Your parents do music... she says.. YES they do, but I introduced them to jazz music." You gotta love a kid like that!!! this is her at 12... playing with Oliver Jones no less!
  11. Well...Satori...after my long 'bleeding heart' post about music and it revealing a little bit of everyone... well sheeshh... now i'm gonna need a text book to figure you out

Thanks for letting me know about DC's little dark but wonderful secret.

  12. Bulwinkl....that was inspiring... care to point out to us who your relatives are?Satori...wow...that was amazing... who was she? Reminded me of Corinne Bailey Rae but not? I like.Excie... who was the guy and girl singing? He played the guitar, she was at the piano? I like!!Excie...dream on... I think i wore my Silk Degrees album completely thread bare on my turntable. I get such a kick listening to these videos. I was reminded of a time when my husband and I went to see a financial advisor some years ago. This guy said to us, " I always get so excited when I get to see someone's income tax report. Tells me everything about a person. I really don't feel I know them until i see their report." Don't get me wrong..this guy was cool and he was a smart individual... it's just that he lived with numbers and papers. Thank god it was him and not me.Anyhow... the short of the long of it is... when i sit here and listen to videos that people post .. i always feel it's letting me see a bit of what's inside each person and I think that's cool. and I thought I'd leave you with a little bit of me.

  13. In tribute, NPR played a piece with Oscar and Ella Fitzgerald together...sad that he's gone but thrilled at what he left behind.

    Groucho,

    Who or what is NPR?

    Everyone,

Thanks for the words...comforting to know there are other jazz enthusiasts out there. There have been hours of CBC radio dedicated to playing and replaying shows that were recorded of Osar.
