home page address virus or something

there's something on my computer that keeps making the internet home address page a site of popups galore and a yellow screen with a girl in a white halter top and the desktop or internet page turns white

it's got something like "pass this on" in its address name and a bunch of numbers and redirect instructions

does anyone know what i'm talking about and how i can get rid of it ?

no matter how many times i change home page, this one still comes back

Passiton is more of a pain than a virus.

The best way to tackle it is to run some anti-spyware software. I've fixed about 20 computers with it.

there is a box on the right to download this free program. Run it and quarantine everything that it finds.

Then go to internet options in internet explorer and change your home page to what you want it to be.

there is another thing going around that is similiar called something like "purity" that is supposed to protect your computer from porn... it actuallly will pop up loads of porn sites and eventually shut your computer down. The Ad Aware software that I linked above fixes that also.

Excathedra, you have AdAware already from what I understand. Just run it as Paw suggests.

Since I do not like things running in the background you could install it and use it until the problem is solved and then uninstall it.

(And yes, there is a way to reinstall Internet Explorer 5 or 6 but it is usually not necessary unless your browser is really screwed.)

SpyHunter works very similarly, and catches more stuff than AdAware.

Spybot Search & Destroy is very technical and detailed, AdAware's success is in part due to its simplicty. Just click it and it scans.

I have both yet I find myself using Adaware most of the time. Seems to do the trick.
