  1. Today
  2. The original title for this series was "Please Stand By," but because the Cuban Missile Crisis had happened less than a year earlier, executives thought it might make people fearful of an air raid. As a reference to this, when this show would cut to a commercial, the Control Voice said, "Please stand by." When the series finale, The Probe (1965), was originally aired, a live announcer spoke over the Control Voice's closing statement about returning "next week at this same time." The live announcer stated that The King Family Show would be seen "next week in this time period." The regular Control Voice closing for The Probe (1965) was heard only in re-runs. Gene Roddenberry was a big fan of the series, being a regular visitor to the set. He would use many of the crew, cast, costumes, and props on Star Trek. George
  3. "Granny, why are you making soap in the cement pond? We can buy it at the store!" "Store-bought soap? STORE-BOUGHT SOAP?? How long do you think 64 million dollars will last if we use STORE-BOUGHT SOAP??" George
  4. The incredible hulk, but I'll spot you that one
  5. Early 20th century would probably limit the selection to Teddy Roosevelt to FDR. I think we can rule out Taft. Having already eliminated TR, Coolidge, and Hoover, let's try Harding and Wilson? George
  6. Gilligan's Island. "Human interest stories do not make the front page." (Not a giveaway quote, but obviously one of my favorite). *** "It's my job to protect her. Don't make me angry!"
  7. You got one. Man, I would pay to see Herbert Hoover in a cheerleading uniform. That would have been something to see. Reagan was a cheerleader.
  8. More lines. "97X, bam! The future of rock 'n' roll. 97X, bam! The future of rock 'n' roll. 97X, bam! The future of rock 'n' roll". "Here I am, goin' to Florida, my leg hurts, my butt hurts, my chest hurts, my face hurts, and like that ain't enough, I gotta pee all over myself".
  9. I suppose it should have been obvious that cartoons would be as easy to make in a pandemic as without one, but it didn't really occur to me. And, uh, I hope you had a feliz cumpleanos. George
  10. "Did you ever kill anybody?" "Yes, but they were all bad." George
  11. Forgive me for interrupting the thread. A) I'm also curious which 7 languages Allan speaks. Obviously, English is one. B) Allan, when you said "and witnessed some supernatural happenings at the time", were you referring solely to SIT at the time, or something else like healing or another? I was very curious. C) "I've heard people s.i.t. a mixture and mish mash of some of those 'human languages' in the same utterance." If we were rehashing- or I was still trying to make up my mind on the subject, I'd think you were making Raf's argument for him. (Back when I was agreeing with you on this, it would have gotten my attention, and not in a good way.) D) Isaiah 65:8 may not be the verse you meant. I can't find anything remotely resembling a connection in any version. E) Zephaniah 3:9 is the verse you meant, but other than in the KJV, it doesn't remotely resemble a reference to SIT.
  12. BTW, George, after all I posted, I was hoping you'd at least get to "It's obviously a cartoon, but which one?"
  13. It's been pretty good. I've found it might be the kind of day to listen to Weird Al's eponymous album (his first), or at least part of the album.
  14. Yesterday
  15. By the way, WW, I hope you are having a nice day. Today would be a nice day for you to have a nice day. You know what I mean? A nice day
  16. Given my propensity to vanish, I will yield to you on the basis that you WOULD have gotten it. :)
  17. I actually would have gotten it from your penultimate post. Harley Quinn definitely has cussing and violence, but being a cartoon, based on a comic book (which was based on a prior cartoon), one might have expected it to be a kids' show. George
  18. Ok, I'll go. Knock knock knock... Penny. Played by Kaley Cuoco, who is most certainly NOT Margot Robbie (though she is a cutie pie in her own right). They do have the distinction of playing one Harley Quinn. Cuoco in an animated series, which one would predict could flourish in a lockdown environment because the actors don't need to be anywhere near each other.
  19. I tried. So close yet so far away, George. I wasn't pointing you to a particular program as I was to a particular...
  20. That sounds like Sheldon Cooper. "Young Sheldon" fits some of the clues (title character not played by Jim Parsons), but there was no violence or cursing, and the only main actor well-known before the show was Annie Potts (though minor characters were played by Ed Begley, Wallace Shawn, Craig Nelson, etc.). George
  21. Sounds like "Doom Patrol," except that that has no "title character." Based on a comic book, but not a kids' show. Lots of cussing and violence. Stars include Timothy Dalton, Brendan Fraser, Alan Tudyk. Started in 2019. George
