  1. Thanks Belle

A couple of words about previous Roasts,

Pets were fine and frequently entertaining in their own right (especially horsedog) but they do need to be on a leash.

Park rules state no alcohol or firearms (in the same sentance no less icon_eek.gif ) so if you get drunk and shoot something be quiet about it anim-smile.gif

Most meals will be communal but relying on that alone for sustinance isn't a good idea as we did run out of food a time or two (but Cathy's intrepid kitchen wizardry saved the day icon_smile.gif:)--> ). Remember this is rural Tennessee where they roll the sidewalks up at dark (not to mention dry counties) so finding suitable food fer the munchies at 9 pm (or more vino fer the beano) might be a problem.

Nights can get cold (duh, it's october) and rain may pass through during the weekend so if you are travelling from nearby could you throw in a few extra blankets just in case your neighbor needs one?

    Thanks thats all for now

    Mikey yer benevolant dictator emeritus

  2. Belle this is open to everybody, last year we had folks that'd been out for along time, some that got out recently (5yrs) and my sources tell me a few innies dropped by but were too shy to say hello.

I called yesterday asking about the cabin (I'm still camping but figured I'd snag it afore someone else did...) anyways it was taken but I put my number on a list to be called for the next available cabin.

HOWEVER...if you want a cabin and will be near a phone during daylight hours AND have a credit card then you might consider calling and asking to be placed on their reserve list. I'm guessing normal peoples plans change just like ours so there still may be some spaces opening up.

  3. Greetings oh great and wonderful G'spotters!

It is my pleasure to announce the upcoming Weenie Roast to be held on Columbus Day weekend

October 9-11 at Falls Creek Falls in lovely Tennessee.

Directions and information can be found at:

    http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/p...FallCreekFalls/

This event is a responsible event, meaning you are responsible for yer stuff including lodging. Cathy has graciously agreed to coordinate the food this year so if you want to bring stuff get with her.

Last I heard there were no cabins left but plenty of campsites so plan on coming early n staying late!

  4. I'm a big advocate of intervention and recovery programs because so far they show the best recovery results. Part of their success comes from the underlying belief that the addiction is a spiritual disease that can only be resolved by a belief in something more powerful than oneself. This is called letting go and is viewed as a healthy step in recovery. For an addict however, this can be a bitter pill to swallow because by the time he has reached the point of entering a recovery program, usually all faith in God is lost and if not then certainly God is ultimately to blame for the addicts troubles. And then of course there is the holier n thou attitude some church folks seem to exibit to those who make bad choices...

So that is partly why AA n all emphasis spirituality rather than a particular set of beliefs and tread somewhat litely at that (altho the Lords Prayer usually the closing prayer). They believe an addict should deveop an individual relationship with the God of their understanding because in essense that is what we are supposed to have anyways, it's not about dogma, not about pomp and circumstance hell its not even about God just blessing those that think like you do, but an inside relationship with a loving God that leads to a peaceful and productive life where there was once chaos and destruction.

  5. GFO I got to agree with the others, sex is good, the more the better icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

That said, sometimes things end up in the wrong place and then what do you do??? icon_eek.gificon_razz.gif:P-->

It's hard to imagine your (meaning any gspot posters) post meaning anything other than what you intended it to mean (which for all of us without exception means it has earthshattering significance) yet read by another it can take on a whole different flavor and if you add a few smartarse comments, well even the most serious thread dealing with dreadful matters of grave consequence can take on a carnival like atmosphere.

Add to that the fact that sometimes folks just post to the open forums without considering that it may belong elsewhere and thats got to add tons of work to the admin's job.

I think too, the karma of this site is different than your exdub site. We've evolved from several other sites which were not nearly as user friendly or democraticly run. A very necessary progression given the task at hand, exposing craig's and twi's actions to the light of public scrutiny and providing a safe base for people to share their experience strength and hope in regards to a really screwed up mindset we found ourselves with (waybrain, a slightly bent perspective on life, similar to exdub brain only different) icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

  6. The Third Annual Weenie Roast is in October, Columbus day to be exact and yer more n welcome to come setaspell with us. So far we've had plenty of food but if we run out we'll just rustle up one of them midget deer that run around the place icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

Seriously if you can come on down, no telling who might show up icon_eek.gif

or who might need bail money icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

  8. If you look at big business's record you'll see that at least one sector (if not more) has been through a depressed cycle in recent memory, it is an ongoing thing in our economy and won't change soon.

The Federal Reserve (aka Alan Greenspan) has gotten quite good at managing our economy through all this however and it looks like they are going to manage the real estate *boom* by slowly raising rates. I'm guessing that banks will respond by selling more non assumables or leaving rates open to some adjustment.

There's tons of speculating going on in the RE market with value exceeding reality in many cases so from a long term standpoint slowing the market down makes sense

So what to do in the RE market knowing that it will be down for a few years (just how long will it take fer our kids to grow up n buy homes??)

I'm thinking of buying an in town lot and having a home roughed in, finishing it out myself or...

finding a location with a great view and building there

or finding an older home in a transition neighborhood and redoing it...

    any suggestions?

  9. This and the related threads and the various belief/unbelief stuff too (not necessarily in the soap thread, just somewhere more appropriate). I think leaving them in the open forum for awhile is fine but sooner or later stuff needs to get put in it's place. Being in the open forums gives hot topics greater exposure and postings but after a week or two they ought to be moved and since it is only a screen scroll further away I don't really see the problem.

This is not meant to diminish the importance of what is being said mind you, both sides of any position usually have valid points.

  10. Galen this is a good topic (great actually) as I've been giving some thought to what I want to do when I hit 70 or so. My situation got turned upside down a few years ago so I've made several adjustments to compensate. First off I'm in nursing school and when I'm done (age 52) I'll do a bit of local work to satisfy some forgivable loans and then do travel nursing where I ought to be able to sock away a few bucks and build up my ss (which I'm not counting out just yet). Right now I am lookin at several older homes that could stand some work and I hope to capitalise on the homes value as well as improvments (I've remodeled an old house recently and can do everything but brickwork) which should help me build a tangible asset base of some kind quickly.

Thats basicly it, it's interesting to read the responses and to realise we are all struggling like most americans with figuring out how to provide fer our golden years and I'd say most of us will still be concerned about it when we meet that date.

I've always felt that having a solid asset base like a house, ownership/interest in an ongoing business, a decent amount of cash reserves (enuf fer a year or two) and a part time job doing what you love is the way to go.

  11. Ya know tho...

Ifn he had as good a knowledge of the Kharma Sutra as he does those jeapordy questions that'd open up a whole new world of possabilities for ya icon_biggrin.gif:D--> icon_razz.gif:P--> icon_eek.gif

  12. Paw I'm glad you started this, the open forum was beginning to look like Mondays amateur nite at the Variety Playhouse icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

  13. True Tom but would you REALLY want to marry a walking Encyclopedia Brittanica?

    I mean really

I can't see very many arguements going the other way with this guy, sheesh the guys a freaking genius and ifn he don't get you with logic he sure could confuse the hell outta ya with bs and you'd never know it.

  14. Call yer credit card company and tell them it is defective and you want yer money back. Then call the bbb and report the problem to them. Then call the manufacturer and tell them the difficulties you've been experiencing with that particular vendor of theirs which ought to get the ball rolling if nothing else does.

    Good luck

  15. The G'spot is a quirky community mostly cause it's made op of many individuals who come into (and out of) it's little corner of the universe who have learned one simple rule: to play well with others (to the best of our ability if the situation warrents it icon_biggrin.gif:D--> and the gawds be smiling favorable like on the unfortuate target icon_eek.gif ).

Since it's content is not created nor led by one person or elite few (other than occasional moderation) it stands to reason that the flavor of the spot will change from time to time most especially so now since it's summer. I'm sure that the fact that the way doesn't appear to pose an imminent threat at this time nor is it generating any juicy gossip outside of pats legal wrangling has contributed significantly to the jovial atmosphere we are seeing.

    Gawd life is good icon_wink.gif;)-->

    Happy Happy Joy Joy
