  1. I've seen this documentary and know people who knew Lonnie personally. It is a great movie. Some of my friends in CA and Malawi were old Jesus people. Pretty radical. There's going to be some cool documentaries coming out about contemporary moves of God. Blessings, Soulsurfer
  2. Uptown, I believe CI stands for "Christian International" which is another charismatic/pentecostal organization based out of Florida. I think that JAL and the others got their training in personal prophecy from this org.
  3. You could just pick up Kyrios Christos by Wilhelm Bousset, Lord Jesus Christ and "One God, One Lord" by Larry Hurtado, and vol 2 of Kerygma and Mythos by Rudolf Bultmann at your local library, save the $29 and reach the same conclusions. But may not save on time in reading them all.
  4. I recall something in a sociology class about how truth is something that a group, society, or culture group agrees to. Kuhn's book "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" enforced this point and showed that people agree to something until something better comes along.
  5. I'm not so sure about all the "lawyer" talk. Someone from the office threatened lawyers when they were trying to steal some work of mine. It could be sabre rattling. Fear and manipulation. Not a loving thing to do. soulsurfer

    Friend finder

Greetings. I'm trying to track down an old friend. If anyone knows of John Zofkas whereabouts could you let me know? Thanks. Sorry if this isn't the correct place to do this. Blessings! B
  7. I agree with Trust and obey. If God is as good as Christians claim He is, why wouldn't we want him in control? While I don't understand the whole dynamics of this whole debate, I'm more comfortable with the Lord owning everything in the world and casting my lot with him rather than giving credit to the other guy.
  8. I personally believe in dreams and prophecy. I know a friend who wrote a big paper on it for school. If anyone is interested in it or the bibliography I can probably get it to you. It would help if these groups did have some history aside from self ordained. There's a lot out there with respect to charismatic/pentacostal churches and there is a rich history. But some of these organizations like CES thinks they are the sole arbiter of "Truth" apart from the history. It's nothing new. Check out "Mine eyes have seen the Glory" for a history of this type of attitude. While CES and others discount personal experience it is hard to fathom a Bible without individuals having personal experiences. The gentiles wouldn't have received admittance into the fold by Peter if God hadn't given him a vision. I think it is good to have a balance, but I can't say this ministry (CES/STFI) has it. With respect to these issues. Follow Jesus. Seek Jesus. Preach Jesus and him crucified and risen. All else is dust in the wind.
  9. I think anyone might have seen this coming in the last 3 or so years. The heightened hubris and seduction of power by certain members of this organization has been made clear to myself and others who have been either ostracized or "kicked out." The track record of people who have been disenchanted with the "truth" this ministry declares shows how love has been left out of the equation. If you check out Max Webers sociology of religion you can see that history often repeats itself in this manner. Ecclesiastes is right. There is nothing new under the sun.
