1. It took about 6 months to partially rebuild the page. Some links don't work yet or pages aren't built. However, gone is the Governance page identifying the major players and their respective backgrounds to run a biblical teaching organization.

what happened to their transparency...oh, maybe it was never there?

    http://www.stfonline.org/

I believe I read in one of their publications that Dan "the man" was moving back west. Of course this was not too long after he made the case about how great the midwest was.

For years the emphasis has been who the individuals were and that was the "proof" of the "accuracy" of their teaching. Their ranks have severely eroded where that mattered, due to their underestimation of the "JAL" factor. It really doesn't matter who's in charge anymore - not that accountability was their strong suit to begin with.

Maybe someone can enlighten me (privately) about the real reasons for Dan moving west.

  2. Exie - Charlie was JAL's youngest sibling. http://www.obitsforlife.com/obituary/191711/Lynn-II-Charles.php

    Here's a link about character disorders: http://counsellingresource.com/features/2008/09/10/what-is-a-character-disorder/

I didn't know JAL until after we left TWI. I did know his parents and siblings before, tho.

VPW did one of those motorcycle drive through things back in the early 80s and he was at the Indiana Limb. Somehow I got invited and JAL's dad and I sat in the back and I was most irreverent (and he egged me on). I was amazed at the smoking, booze guzzling, and profanity spewing from the MOGOTW. It was hard to take him seriously, so I didn't.

  3. And it seems that all his offshoot of the original offshoot have resorted to Social media like Facebook and Twitter as their point of contact. Their presence and effect seems to be dwindling; they just won't admit it to themselves.

They tell themselves they are doing something - however minor and insignificant it really is. The sad thing is that Christians don't need to go after one another. We have enough incoming problems (mainly Islam) to deal with. My church teaches "unity in essentials; charity in inessentials" This prolonged war on doctrine is nothing more than a diversion. It's not really doing "the Lord's work" as much as they might like to believe.

  4. I hit the wayback site and was able to pull up the site from 8 September. Perhaps they have put up the under construction page and renamed the old page?

I get on here once a quarter and maybe take a look at STF to see if there's anything of interest (which there usually isn't). The TorT site hasn't been updated in a LONG time. Seriously - they are using the same framework I put up there 10 years ago. The BU site got a much needed facelift, but I'm not interested enough to actually read anything on any of their sites.

  5. Didn't some church or some Pastors reach out to JAL? I could have that messed up, but if so, whatever became of that? Not sure what kind of church it was either. . . .

JAL always gave me the heebie jeebies. He yelled at me in front of the entire advanced class. I wasn't the only one he singled out, but it was frustrating because he put me in an impossible situation.....kept relevant information from me....and then got angry because I didn't do what he specifically told me not to do.

    He was a jerk.

I don't know if any church reached out to him. His family was heavily involved in 2nd Pres here in Indy prior to his way experience. There seemed to be some going back to that when Charlie died and when Mrs. Lynn died. JAL really didn't like 2nd Pres for all the reasons why I do like it - as in live and let live.

My husband thinks he's a jerk. I thought he could be a jerk, although he wasn't to me.

  6. The name for what ails JAL is character disorder. Many psychological-type people think personality disorders and character disorders are the same thing, but they're not.

JAL has never seen himself as anything other than a person bringing people back to the "truth" of PFAL with minor revisions. CES, as he envisioned it, was never intended to bring in the new. It was there to catch those who had fled the way, or talk those who were in into getting out of that system and into a "better" system. Seriously - a captive audience. He targeted high ranking wayfers and people he believed would be loyal. He was amazed that anyone wouldn't jump at the chance to be around him. To achieve this end, he allowed guys like Ralph to bring in new ideas. However, when it came right down to it, he didn't want to seriously consider anything really new.

Momentus - it was something that would (presumably) achieve in a weekend what had taken months in the way corp.

I don't know what's up with STFI, except they never got that JAL was their bread and butter guy.

  7. What struck me as odd was that he'd post his worthless theology degree, like it was supposed to make him more credible??...

Seriously delusional...but then TWI was/is full of that kind.

  8. Was it actually called "burn the ballast"? That makes no sense. Ballast is necessary. I remember burn the chaff, which is a great thing - until someone defines for you what is worthless to you and then shames you into burning it up. My husband lost most of his extensive (what is now classic) rock collection that way. I simply never participated. My possessions were rather streamlined at that time and I have always had a problem with someone telling me what I can and can't read.

  9. I've kept 1 copy of everything. Threw the rest out. I keep it because it keeps me humble. When I get to thinking I know everything, I just take a look at that stuff and remember where that thinking got me.

  10.
Tzaia, hi

could not connect with your link
Funny thing happened on the way to pulling this up. I ended up on the criminal side and found that Graeser's youngest son is having a hard time staying clear of the law.

  11. I'm trying to imagine if I could care less about what any of those people teach and believe. I don't think I can.

OldSkool - I can't be bothered reading what any of them write. I might be curious for a moment - then I get bogged down by all the wordiness.

Steve - I used to enjoy a good old fashioned debate, but I don't anymore.

  12. Off topic - don't spend a lot of time here or on the computer anymore - life intervened, but I couldn't help notice that johniam seems to have had an epiphany of sorts about TWI. Is that correct?

  13. Tzaia; they do seem to be getting quite stale...focusing mostly on audio and video teachings done in their studio. Teachings are same old, same old...nothing new or timely. No getting out amongst the people; electronic media is quite sterile and hands off if that is the only way you 'connect'. How many people can you reach talking about why you have tattoos, or questions asked by toddlers? No sharing about victory in believers' lives. Y-A-W-N...

I hear that JAL and now STF are sending email alerts for 'live' teachings from their living rooms.

    Chuckle

Exie - TLFL is The Living Truth (according to JAL) Fellowship

Gosh, it's almost been a couple of years since there was a good old fashioned upheaval.
