It is an interesting fact to those of us who were taught that “doctrine” meant “right believing” or “right teaching” that the terms “right” and “doctrine” (or “teaching”) never occur together in the New Testament. What is coupled are the terms “healthy” (or “sound”) and “doctrine.” A commitment to being right, even about the Bible, is about self; promoting what is healthy or sound is about others. To be Christ-like servant/leaders requires us to be all about the welfare of others. We use our knowledge appropriately to serve others, and to wash their feet, not to elevate ourselves above them because we are “right” and they are “wrong.”

Even after being Christian for years, we too often resist the light of ethical scrutiny and avoid self-disclosure. Religion, as opposed to godliness, is often a catalyst to such denial and deception, because it holds out strict standards for right conduct without allowing open disclosure of temptation or sin. To speak the truth to our neighbors means that we are speaking the truth first to ourselves, and no longer allowing ourselves to live in deception. If we ask the Lord to reveal the true state of our hearts, he will. It may not be flattering, but it is liberating. When we see that what is really motivating us is fear, doubt, hurt, anger, envy, etc., we can repent and choose to be motivated by love for God and neighbor. As long as we are living in darkness, we have no choice but to walk according to the flesh.

Authentic and mature spirituality involves faith and boldness to contend effectively with evil spiritual forces. It is also vitally important for a healthy spirituality that the believer not get out of balance in this area and “overspiritualize” adversity as if it were all the attack of the Devil. Healthy spirituality first emphasizes submission to God and Christ and their authority, then resistance to the Devil (James 4:7).

Repentance, accounting, and dealing honestly with our ongoing sinful condition are ways of “cleansing the Temple.” Jesus zealously cleansed the physical temple in Jerusalem so that his Father’s house could be pure for worship. In like manner we are all called to present our bodies as living sacrifices or places of worship (Rom. 12:1). Cleansing our mind, heart, and body is a challenging process involving much hard work. But after our “temple” is cleansed, it becomes more useful as a place of deeper worship and joy as we experience more of the fullness of God’s presence. Embracing God more wholly and openly brings a sense of joy, hope, and celebration. We are once again transformed by his presence and power, and we move deeper into our true identity in Christ. Identification with Christ brings us more and more into a life that is a reflection of his life and ministry.

Transformation ends in a renewed commitment to obey God from the heart, and shows up in new and consistent behavior patterns. the forced denial of one of the most primal components of humanity, our psycho-emotional "being", was a cruel tool used by vic to "help us renew our minds"......as with so many other normal human attributes, emotions and the expression thereof required redefinition, because, in the long run, normal, human, psycohoemotional response to vic's twisted "training" tactics, would have encouraged any "normal", thinking, feeling, person to listen to their "gut" (as penworks described).........and get the hell out of there!!......but, part of vic's own psychopathololgy included the destruction of normal human thinking/feeling and replacing the resulting psycohemotional void with a pattern which allowed for that subtle, covert control over the people he was "training" in order to "set them up" for his attempts to feed his perverted "needs".....for sexual predation and absolute control over every aspect of his "kiids'" lives!.........please allow me to quote from another thread............

the same is true regarding the re-programming of the emotions of the faithful......to successfully generate "group think" to replace individual critical thinking and reliance upon one's "gut feelings"......anyone expressing indivuality which ran contrary to vic's doctrines was of neccessity "shunned".......it is required in order to avoid the spread of critical thinking which would lead any normal person to question and eventually reject what "the teacher" was saying!!.....

at the same time, the repression of normal human emotional expression generates dysfunction of the same!..which dysfunction is a necessary component in the
