Senator Charles Grassey, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is looking into the notion some ministries propound of God wanting to bless the faithful with earthly riches but can't do it until and unless people send their money to these evangelical groups. Six ministries, including Joyce Meyer, Benny Hinn, etc. are being asked to fork over their financial records to determine whether they still qualify for non-profit status. Perhaps this will offer more financial transparancy and make people think twice before sending their $$ to groups like this... I think the emphasis on me me me me getting from God is a deviation from what is recorded in the gospels. Has anyone heard whether TWI is being asked for their financial records?

My 2 cents: that web site is pure @*&^% and propaganda. I agree that it is salesmanship for the "what God will do for you" self-centered brand of Christianity that's so popular on Televangelism today, but disagree with any notion that there's a "God" who tests us. But since I figure there's not a personal God out there who interferes with the affairs of humans anyway, I won't comment much more...

Welcome to GSC! I remember the feelings you describe and it took awhile for me to gain confidence in my new identity, too. Everyone has a different path, so take your time. There are tons of books to read on cults, fundamentalism, etc. but mostly I'd say: 1) LISTEN really closely to your inner self, gut, or whatever you want to call it. 2) Go slow in making decisions. 3) Breathe deeply often. 4) Remember that exercise clears the mind and does wonderful things for your body/mind that no amount of "figuring stuff out" can do. 5) Be kind to yourself and others. Like they say, "We're all walking around in an emotional emergency room." Take good care of yourself! Be your own "cause" now. Visit GSC when you can to gain support. We're glad to be here for you!
