  1. I find myself thinking things or reacting to situations that are knee jerk or "automatically" what I would have done while involved in TWI, yet utterly illogical for/to someone who was never involved with TWI or an organization like them. I consider that "way brain".

It is a way of thinking or behavior that is a parrot of what we were told should be the response so many times that it happens without my realizing it. Or something irritates the he11 out of me and I realize it's because of some lingering TWI doctrine that I want to, but haven't completely eradicated from my life.

I consider "way brain" any undesirable behavior, thoughts, fears or personality traits I have that were acquired during my TWI years. YMMV

  2. Convicted molester, 74, gets 8 years in prison

    Snippets:

New London, Conn. — Robert J. Sharp demonstrated the qualities of a sexual predator, grooming his young victims and taking advantage of their trust, a state prosecutor said Monday.
Norwich investigators also said Sharp admitted to inappropriately touching a young girl in the 1980s while on a fellowship with the Way International Bible Teaching Organization in Arizona.

Sharp claimed the behavior was caused by a bad car accident in 1974.

“I do desire one thing, a mental inspection, exam, to see if my brain is correct,” Sharp said.

At a glance: Robert J. Sharp, 74, of Norwich was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison and 12 years of special parole. He pleaded guilty to two counts of risk of injury to a minor (impairing the morals of a child and inappropriate sexual contact with a child) and one count of possession of child pornography. Sharp will have to register for life as a sexual offender.

Is that TWI? It's hard to tell the way they printed the name.

  3. I can not quit giggling over this. One of the links that Socks posted says the clip had over 100,000 views on YouTube before being pulled. :biglaugh:

My family and friends have gotten a good chuckle out of it and say they now realize why I needed so many years of therapy.... especially after we pulled up a clip of the choir in their snazzy robes.

    ex10

I remember all too well those very long, very hot days with no power and feel for anyone with young 'uns having to go through that.

So very, very glad to hear y'all are okay. We're still missing folks, though.

George, isn't it fun getting to know your neighbors like that. We did the same thing during Charlie, Ivan, Frances, Jean, etc.... my garage tends to become the gathering spot for my street.

  4. Some of the other folks are from famous bands. One of the guitar players is from Quiet Riot. The electric violin player and the sax player are, too, I just can't remember who they said.

I thought about DMiller watching the electric violin.... that guy totally rocked the house.

    Super awesome show!

  5. Went to this concert last night. AWESOME!! AWESOME!! AWESOME!!!

A friend got free tickets for us, but if it comes to your area, I highly recommend it!!

You'll most likely notice some of the names of the band members. Incredible musicians and great composition to showcase their amazing talents.

"What if"…Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin had performed together live on stage with an orchestra?

"What if"…Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Deep Purple and other Classic Rock giants had had the benefit of quadraphonic sound systems and 7 multi-media video screens?

"What if"…The best of the best Classic Rock Music was presented in a new way—a way that enhanced the original structure of the songs by adding richer sounds, intelligent lighting, video animations and special effects that created an environment in which audiences would not just hear the songs but experience them?

The crowd in Orlando was a smorgasbord of ages. It was really very cool to see spans of generations singing along to some of the greatest music ever. One of our buddies from Woodstock said the singer doing Janis Joplin's songs did Janis better than Janis did. :biglaugh:

  6. People who label Christianity as "intolerant" are simply demonstrating their own lack of meekness and their intolerance for what God has to say about life.

Christ said that people don't come to the light because they know their wickedness will be exposed. You can see why a homosexual might have a tough time coming to Christ because he knows God disapproves of his behavior and will be asked to change. He loving the sin, doesn't want to change and violently protects his idol by hurling insults at man and God.

This totally smacks of the egotism, judgementalism and intolerance that you ask about Geisha. It's reminiscent of my attitude during my TWI days.

Are you, Geisha, tolerant? I tend to think so based on what I've seen here. Like Abi, I see someone who really cares about people and who is considerate of her audience while not wavering on her personal belief system.

I think that "to each his own" is more of my philosophy. If whatever you're doing works FOR YOU - Great! I'm doing what works FOR ME and it may not be the same thing that works for anyone else. I enjoy sharing ideas, but I abhor being told that I'm lacking meekness and full of sin because I don't subscribe to the same belief system.

I, frankly, do see it more in so-called Christians than I do with any other group, but that's just what I'm exposed to and does not make it universal.

  7. :) Thanks, Geisha. I appreciate your post. I disgree with your viewpoint, but I appreciate your explanation.

Your belief hinges on believing God as your interpret him to be in the Bible and upon accepting Jesus as lord in one's life for going to heaven. You present, although very nicely, the options of believing as you believe or going to hell (no matter how it's defined).

So, who, in your belief is going to hell? Atheists? Jews? Buddhists?

What if Buddhist, Hindu, Pagan, Christian, Jew, Pantheist, Mayan, etc. all actually believe in the same "Spirit" or "God"?

  8. Thank God they are evacuating this time and it seems to be going relatively smoothly. I do hope they reconsider rebuilding, too, Rhino. Such a waste of dollars and tax revenue. I'm really hoping it's not as bad as it looks like it will be.

  9. In this case, I think the local news is better than any national news. My favorite sources are: WFTV and The Orlando Sentinel.

The national media just touches on the case, whereas besides hurricanes, it's almost all the local media seems to be covering and there's lots more to the story.

Jim, they have very little to go on and since the grandmother washed and got rid of some of the evidence, without a body, they are unlikely to be able to prosecute for murder. The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming and obvious, but not enough to get a conviction - especially if they get a bunch of bozos on the jury. That's the reason they offered the plea deal and it is an extremely rare deal that very seldom happens anywhere. They wanted to entice Casey to lead them to Caylee.... to give them any information that would help with the investigation.... I think she and her lawyer are just stupid enough to reject the plea anyway.

If she did dump Caylee's body in the swamp area where it appears she might have - there will be no body left thanks to gators and other Florida wildlife, insects, rain and whatnot.

  10. I'm wondering if it's possible for those who believe in eternal damnation to understand where others are coming from?

I mean, we've been there ~ done that with quoting scripture and using "the word" as a foundation for our beliefs and, most likely, did believe that at one time. But, logically, it just does not make sense and does seem to be a manipulation tactic no matter how you spin it...or how light one tries to make the analogy.

"Why would you NOT want to make the simple choice to do what God says and avoid eternal damnation?"

    The threat is still there.

IF God, as they say, is all loving, all knowing and all those chocolate covered good things - then HOW can he possibly allow his own creations to suffer an eternal damnation as they teach? And WHY do you want me to believe in a God that does? It baffles me and just quoting scripture to me is useless.

Geisha, for what it's worth, I think, perhaps, this medium may be a challenge for communication for you because I'm seeing the same things Oak and Bramble are in your posts on this thread. :) If what we're interpreting your message to be is wrong, please correct the message instead of scolding us for not understanding.

I do believe we see through a glass darkly and, just maybe, on the other side of that glass is a world none of us can imagine, but all of us will get to see.
