Game: Before & After (Movies and TV)
Human without the bean replied to Raf's topic in Movies, Music, Books, Art
Is this still cryptic? Because I thought I left a couple of clues warranting a guess at least. Look, I don't want to make it too easy, do I? What's the fun in that. Perhaps, (if anyone is playing) whoever is playing is trying to hard. The clues are there. How about a clue? It's not "You've Got Mail", but it's in the same ballpark; the movie that is. -
MacArthur Park was popular enough in 68, providing you were alive, where ever you were, in Vietnam, floating a boat in Mexico, or smuggling hashish from Istanbul, you would have recognized some of these lines and been able to put them together. Think of all the hate there is in Red China Then, take a look around to Selma, Alabama You may leave here for 4 days in space But when you return it's the same old place The pounding of the drums the pride and disgrace

"Some one left the cake out in the rain" would have been enough for Songs for the one line thread for me to get it. I'm not trying to give it away. Had da, should da, would da, suck it up. You got stumped George.

That's Kevin Spacey in "The Usual Suspects". Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss. -
RichardHarris (the actor) was the first to record this song. I remember My little sister would play her 45 rpm over and over again and in 1968, the song played frequently on the radio as well, reaching # 2 on the American charts. Unusual for a song of it's length over 7 minutes long, it comprised of four movements, amid-tempo arrangement, a slow tempo and quiet arrangement, an Allegro, and finally a reprise of the first arrangement. Harris used MacArthur Park to debut his pop career. Donna Summer recorded it, Waylon Jennings's too and others. MacArthur Park

Here's the beginning of the song. If this doesn't do anything I'll give it up. Spring was never waiting for us, girl It ran one step ahead As we followed in the dance Between the parted pages and the prayers Still love's hot, fevered iron Like a striped pair of pants

Well I wouldn't want that, so here's a little more There would be another song for me For I will sing it There would be another dream for me Someone will bring it I will drink the wine while it is warm And never let you catch me looking at the sun And after all the loves of my life After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one I will take my life into my hands, and I will use it I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it I will have the things that I desire And my passion flow like rivers through the sky And after all the loves of my life Oh, and after all the loves of my life I will be thinking of you - and wondering why

Me too. I'll re-word this and be back in a bit. An obnoxious grad student meets another student when he carpools with her to NYC. After several years and relationships they meet again, and become good friends but both fear sex will ruin the relationship. Their relationship is a success once they receive counseling from a TV talk show host. -

Well, if you can read George I made an edit in the post that they were counseled by the talk show host. I may try to re-word some of this or add to it. I wasn't expecting this clue to really stump the trunk. -

Not easy enough? Right? Yeah, that's Gene Hackman in "The Quick and the Dead". New movie: new post "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." -

Sorry, I tried to make it clearer when I found "counseling" spelled wrong for you all. -

OK, I thought someone would recognize it with the "I'm not a soldier part" included. Not for everyone I guess. ~The Killers~ All These Things That I Have Done There would be another song for me For I will sing it There would be another dream for me Someone will bring it I will drink the wine while it is warm And never let you catch me looking at the sun And after all the loves of my life After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one

"Miracle on 34th Street" I'm feeling generous so I'm leaving two quotes. This is my town! If you live to see the dawn, it's because I allow it. I'm in charge of everything! I decide who lives or who dies! Your not fast enough for me! Today I am! -

Are these in the same order as they came with the clue? I have 2/3 of it, I think. -
Yeah, that's it.

An early 60's TV show known for its witty charm, a gentlemen's conduct, a dame with sex appeal, and sci-fi Bond like suspense. Many of us could guess this in an instant, so I tried to envelope the plot without trying to be subtle. If people are playing, I give it 3 minutes.

Yeah, you know you gotta help me out Yeah, Oh don't you put me on the back burner You know you gotta help me out Your gonna bring yourself down Yeah, your gonna bring yourself down Yeah, your gonna bring yourself down I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier If no one guesses soon, and I'm betting they won't, I'll reveal this one for another one.

I thought this would be picked up a lot faster. This is a joke Tom Hanks tells Denzel W at the hospital and just after Denzel tells the joke to somebody else in "Philadelphia". I'm not sure about it being a gem, but I liked it. FREE POST -
