"I need it, Richard. Give it to me." "What?" "The speech. Why we do what we do." "Oh, I am not really in the mood after..." "PLEASE, Richard. I NEED it. Please give it to me. And don't just phone it in." "Helen..." "Please! Can't you see how demoralized I am?" "OK. There are heroes in this world. They're called District Attorneys. They don't get to have clients, people who smile at them at the end of the trial, who look them in the eye and say, "thank you." Nobody is there to appreciate the District Attorney, because we work for the state. And our gratitude comes only from knowing there's a tide out there. A tide the size of a tsunami coming out of a bottomless cesspool. A tide called crime, which, if left unchecked will rob every American of his freedom. A tide which strips individuals of the privilege of being able to, to walk down a dark street or take twenty dollars out of an ATM machine without fear of being mugged. All Congress does is talk, but it's the District Attorney who grabs his sword, who digs into the trenches and fights the fight. Who dogs justice day, after day, after day without thanks, without so much as a simple pat on the back. But we do it. We do it, we do it because we are the crusaders, the last frontier of American justice. Knowing that if a man cannot feel safe, he can never, never feel free." "Thank you."

Lisa, I loved agreeing with your dad. I loved disagreeing with him. He was honest, forthright, upfront... everything a friend should be. Had I known him in person, I'm confident we would have been very good friends. We at the Cafe just lost something wonderful. How much greater your loss must be. Our friend is gone, but his legacy never will be. Raf

I disagree. I think calling it a law took a perfectly valid "positive thinking" principle and turned it into something that was not only easily disprovable, but a source of tremendous self-condemnation. I prefer to think of it as a proverb: often works, but don't make a law out of it. "Train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." There's a statement straight out of the Bible. Often true. But it's not a law, and sometimes a child raised well goes astray anyway. It happens. It's called real life. Doesn't negate the principle, and doesn't mean a child should NOT be raised properly. It just doesn't always work out because it's NOT a law!

:) Your move.

That would have been good. I'm tempted to accept it. But no. Here are some alternatives (any one of them could work):
-
Nope. You guys are going to kill me when you figure it out.
-
no one got it yet.

I figured that show, too, based on "Lewis can." Would have guessed it if not for the fact that I'm fresh out of new ideas for the pictionary. :) By the way, I loved Parker Lewis Can't Lose (Buuuuuddy). It beat the heck out of that Ferris Bueller series they tried. Coolness.

You guys will be mad at this one, I'm sure.

Finally. Yer up

I honestly thought this was an easy one. "If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, d---less, hopeless, heartless, fat-foot, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey s--- he is. Hallelujah. Holy s---. Where's the Tylenol?"

Break it down: -- VPW plagiarized and it matters. -- VPW plagiarized and it doesn't matter. -- The tooth fairy told me that VPW didn't plagiarize. Those are the only three sensible positions to take.
