  2. Thank you Revvel. The mystery for Israel IS the mystery for the church it's one and the same; for the church is comprised of former Jews and Gentiles who now are members of the body of Christ. True, spiritual Israel is understood and described in the following key scriptures with my commentary: (Ai assisted) Romans 9-11 Romans 9:6-8: Paul states, "For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel". This passage distinguishes between ethnic Israel and the "true" or spiritual Israel, comprised of those who have faith. He clarifies that "the children of the promise who believe in Christ are counted as offspring". Romans 11:17–24: Paul uses the metaphor of an olive tree to explain the relationship. The cultivated olive tree represents the people of God (true Israel). Unbelieving natural branches (Christ-rejecting Jews) were broken off, and wild olive branches (Gentile believers in Christ) were grafted in. The tree itself remains the same, emphasizing the continuity of God's people across the Old and New Testaments. Romans 11:25-26: Paul speaks of a future time when "all Israel will be saved," which many understand as the final salvation and inclusion of a large number of ethnic Jews who believe in Christ into the one people of God (the church). Galatians Galatians 3:7, 29: Paul explicitly states that "it is those of faith in Christ who are the sons of Abraham". He later concludes, "And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise". This indicates that the promises made to Israel's patriarch, Abraham, are now inherited by all believers in Christ, regardless of their ethnic background. Consequently, those who do not believe in Christ, including former Israel, are broken off. Galatians 6:16: Paul offers a benediction "upon the Israel of God". While debated, many scholars interpret this phrase as referring to the true, spiritual people of God, the church, made up of both Jewish and Gentile believers in Christ. It still is debated because (I believe) some Jews think they can get saved without Jesus. I believe our duty is to convince these folks that they are wrong. 1 Peter 1 Peter 2:9-10: Peter applies titles and descriptions once used exclusively for Old Testament Israel to the New Testament church (which included many Gentiles). He calls them "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession". These terms directly echo God's description of Israel in Exodus 19:5-6, indicating that the church now fulfills Israel's role as God's special people on earth -- God's Chosen People. In other words, God's Chosen People are exclusively believers in Jesus. Other Passages Ephesians 2:11-22: Paul emphasizes that Gentiles, who were once "separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise," have now been brought near to God. Christ has broken down the "dividing wall" between Jews and Gentiles, creating in himself "one new man in place of the two" (the church) and making them "fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God". Philippians 3:3: Paul refers to believers in Christ (who worship by the Spirit of God) as the "true circumcision," a term that was the definitive physical mark of Old Testament Israel.
  3. I was sexually assaulted at HQ in the Fall of 1979, after VPW told LCM he needed to "loosen up" and male corps that "men of God" needed to have their sexual "needs" fulfilled in order to do the work of the ministry unhindered. To my two corps female assaulters, it was just "playing around". The term "loosened up" was used specifically about me. It took me 38 years to fully recall the assault, which (the recalling) happened after "Losing the Way" came out, and my survivor friend helped bring back my memory. That friend did not know about TWI, but she is a very smart person, having co founded the National Association to Protect Children. She knew I was a survivor before I consciously did, from my actions in working for her group. I know VPW's words endangered many women, but I wonder if any other men were assaulted. I can't help speculating if this was how Victor Barnard got started on his abusive path.

  5. What did Christ reveal after His Resurrection and Ascension—about the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms—that was not revealed prior to the Crucifixion? Oldiesman: Yes! And if Christ is directing us to look at the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, then why wouldn’t we do so? Why did Christ—from the right hand of God—direct His apostles to quote the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms—from Acts to Revelation? Christ directed His apostles to quote the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms—from Acts to Revelation—to declare the revelation of the mystery once hidden in Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms: “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” as well as the mystery for Israel. On Pentecost—the first day of the Church—Christ declared to the world THE MYSTERY of the Church: The creation of Christ’s Church and the future salvation of His Church at the time of the Rapture on the day of the Lord. Christ declared this by directing Peter to quote Joel, revealing the mystery of the Church once hidden in the prophet Joel: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” As with Peter, Christ directed Paul to quote the identical prophecy given by Joel for the identical reason: to reveal our future salvation on the day of the Lord.* Question: In Romans, Paul revealed “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” And he did so in 6 consecutive verses—quoting the same prophet and prophecy as Peter did on Pentecost. Where did Paul reveal “Christ in you, the hope of glory” in Romans, and how does it relate to what Peter declared on Pentecost? Paul: “Christ in you, the hope of glory”: Romans 10:8-13. *Paul expounded on our future salvation in several letters, including 1 Thessalonians 5:9. Why on Pentecost did Peter quote Joel 2:28-32a, and why did Peter and Paul both stop at Joel 2:32a? Why didn’t Peter and Paul quote Joel 2:32b? Peter: “Christ in you, the hope of glory”: Acts 2:16-21. On the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), Christ directed Peter to quote Joel (Acts 2:16-21), and thus, Peter revealed the mystery of the Church once hidden in Joel: the creation of the Church (via the Holy Spirit being poured out/“Christ in you”), and the future salvation of the Church (“the hope of glory”) on the “day of the Lord” when Christ will save and glorify His Church—when “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Thus, Christ directed Peter to quote Joel to mark the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy: present tense (Christ in you) and future tense (salvation/our hope of glory). God had hidden this mystery in Joel’s prophecy—and Peter was the first apostle to reveal it. Thus, all prophecies about the creation and future salvation and glorification of the Church agree with Joel and Peter—which includes Paul. Paul quoted Joel’s prophecy in Romans: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Peter and Paul quoted the identical prophecy for the identical reason: to mark the future fulfillment of prophecy—revealing the mystery of the Church once hidden in Joel’s prophecy. Peter and Paul are in complete agreement: The future salvation of the Church will occur at the onset of the day of the Lord. Without question, on the first day of the Church, God revealed the mystery of the Church. And He did so by supernatural means: “tongues of fire” and “speaking in tongues.” Joel’s prophecy had come to pass in the very eyes and ears of the worshippers—just as Isaiah’s prophecy (61:1, 2a) came to pass in the very eyes and ears of the Hebrew worshippers when Christ quoted Isaiah in Luke 4. On Pentecost, Peter’s quote began with, “I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh,” and Peter ended his prophecy with, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Who are those who call upon “the name of the Lord”? Peter defined it right in the context: those filled with God’s “Spirit.” Peter’s prophecy and Paul’s prophecy are in complete agreement: Those filled with the “Spirit” are the ones who will be “saved” according to Joel’s prophecy: The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Joel 2:31, 32) Peter and Paul both stopped at Joel 2:32a because Joel 2:32b applied not to the mystery for the Church, but rather, the mystery for Israel. If you don’t yet understand why “pre-trib” needs to be buried… you will. Peace. revvel

  9. A very good chance. The first show as called "Danger Man" in the UK and "Secret Agent" in the US. The second show as called "Secret Agent" in the UK and the US. Patrick McGoohan played a retired secret agent swept off to "the island" In "The Prisoner." It was never stated that it was the same character he played in the previous series, but most viewers inferred that. "Rover" was a giant bubble which trapped anyone trying to get off the island. 14. This movie is from a famous director, and is a famous movie in its own right. The script was based on a novel, and the English translation of the novel's title is "Cold Sweat- From Among the Dead." This movie is largely set in and around San Francisco (California.) This movie had an alternate ending. As was common at the time, the European censors were appeased by an ending that made sure no villain got away. (It can be seen as a deleted scene in the Collector's Edition.) Two of the main characters are safe, and a radio announcement tells of the arrest of the mastermind behind the crime. It has been said that you need to see this movie at least twice to get it- once to focus on the plot, and once to focus on the characters and themes and so on. One criticism of this movie is the pacing- it suffers from a lack of explosions, fist fights, and flash, and the first half APPEARS to have little happening in it- the first time you see the movie. But if you trust that the movie earned its reputation and the director did as well, you can stick with it and observe the movie transform while you watch. Martin Scorcese raved about this movie. Among his comments- "As is the case with all great films, truly great films, no matter how much has been said and written about them, the dialogue about it will always continue." "In fact, it just stands alone - period. For such a personal work with such a uniquely disturbing vision of the world to come out of the studio system when it did was not just unusual - it was nearly unthinkable." He also praised the "astonishing" title sequence and the "tragically beautiful score." One of the main characters is seen early in the movie, in a high-rise apartment. It is his friend's apartment, not his own, and he is visiting. Otherwise, we'd have a rather curious question to pose to the character or the director. Roger Ebert said of this movie that it was one of the two or three best films this director ever made, and the one where he dealt most with the themes that defined his art, that it was the most "confessional." One of the most famous shots of the film was achieved by zooming the lens in while simultaneously pulling the camera back. The mission seen in the movie was an actual one, and exists to this day- although the movie added a bell tower that does not (which was obviously necessary for the movie.) The director has a "don't blink" cameo towards the beginning of this movie, in front of the shipyard, carrying a trumpet case. This movie is, apparently, famous enough that a remake has been considered. Robert Downey Jr has been cast to play the male lead, if it ever actually gets filmed. Since this film has a considerable following, the restoration of the film- restoring the color, remaking the audio- was accomplished rather painstakingly. They used the director's original notes concerning the audio tracks as guidelines. They were also clever enough to hide hisses, pops and bangs in the source tapes by adding sounds appropriate to the scenes- like extra seagull cries and a foghorn to the scene at Cypress Point. Due to a matter of who owned the rights to the movie, the movie was not released for DVD home viewing until 1998, but has been released several times since then, on DVD and Blu-Ray, as a standalone movie and as part of a collection of the director's works (at least 3 different collections have been done and included it so far!) (It was released on VHS in 1985.) At the time this movie was released, the reviews were lukewarm at best in the US and in the UK. In France, the reviews were positive. (Ideas about what makes a great movie can vary from country to country, and is one reason why "foreign" films can seem so foreign when we try to make sense of them.) The British Film Institute does a once-a-decade list of what leading critics consider the top 10 films of all time. This film, initially, did not make the list. Later, it reached the list, and has moved up and down in the top 10, even holding the top spot once. Critics disagree as to whether this film classifies as "film noir." It is in color, but the plot, tone and motifs are pointed to as the qualifiers by dissenters.
  15. You might want to try to narrow down the possibilities a little. Perhaps if you figured out who the director was, you'll get there, or get close to the answer. (That was not a clue, just a suggestion.)

  21. One actor was the star of three shows, The first one had a different title in the US from its title in the UK. The second one had the same title in both the US and UK, and it was the US title of the first show. The third was never officially called a sequel to the second, but it was, for all intents and purposes. All remaining clues pertain to the third show. Throughout the show, the star is menaced by "Rover" (not a dog, more of a device). The Butler (played by Maltese actor Angelo Muscat) never speaks, and appears in more episodes than anyone else, other than the star. The show was filmed in the North Wales resort village of Portmeirion over the course of a year. The star was inspired to film his series there after filming a couple of the first show episodes in the village. The building in Portmeirion shown as the star's house in the series became a gift shop selling show-related merchandise. Although the show was sold as a thriller in the mold of the first series, its surreal and Kafkaesque setting and reflection of concerns of the 1960s counterculture have had a far-reaching influence on popular culture, and the series ultimately developed a cult following Name the third show. For extra credit, name the other two. George

Nearly everybody gets twitterpated in the springtime. For example: you're walking along, minding your own business. You're looking neither to the left, nor to the right, when all of a sudden, you run smack into a pretty face. Woo-woo! You begin to get weak in the knees. Your head's in a whirl. And then you feel light as a feather; and before you know it, you're walking on air. And then you know what? You're knocked for a loop, and you completely lose your head!" "You must never rush out on the meadow. There might be danger. Out there, we're unprotected. The meadow is wide and open, and there are no trees or bushes to hide us. So we have to be very careful. Wait here. I'll go out first. And if the meadow is safe, I'll call you." George
