  1. Naten00......first, I would want to understand your unique situation if I were to give counsel. But as a general rule, there are many well-advised steps to take. Of course, if one has family members who've been locked into the twi system for decades, then it becomes more dicey to separate from twi and still keep family bonds.

If possible, I tend to agree with those who advice one to avoid confrontation. If branch leaders or corps want to "meet" with you....simply refuse, and say "I just need some space and will not be attending twi meetings for awhile." If they badger you, REFUSE to allow them the upper hand. You do NOT owe them an explanation. You do NOT need to meet with them privately.

Do not allow them to make you feel defensive. Do not allow them to rile you up. Do not allow twi any further entrance into your life, your heart, or your explanations. With every action YOU take......YOU are setting the precedent, the proper boundaries. They have NO control over your life......unless YOU allow it.

An answering machine AND caller id helps immensely.

At this time, I generally advise people to not try to convince others to follow your exit. Right now, it's YOU that is most important. Your life and example will shine forth to others, perhaps, down the road some day. You do not need to justify what you are doing to other friends and twiers. You might lose several "good friends" in this.....but then, if you do how valuable was that friendship if they don't allow you to make your own decisions and judgements?

Stay strong and do not allow anyone to talk you out of your exit plan. More than likely, you will go thru a vast amount of emotions in the next few months. That's perfectly normal. Some refer to it like grieving over a death. Hopefully, you have several who you can trust during those challenging moments ahead. And, I'm sure that several GSers will be there if you need support. Know that you can pm me with any concerns or questions.....or just support.

In closing, let me say.......fly away and soar on the winds of freedom. :)

    Nate00,

I would second all of these thoughts. As someone who was a diehard believer in TWI, it can be very difficult initially. However, this site helped me discover there were others who saw the same things I did and it eventually got easier. Folks here made me feel less alone. The suggestion about new friends is a very good one. New surroundings helped me to get over the feeling of loss when some old friends wouldn't talk to me. You can do it.

  2. If only we had an......... Wait fooor it....... It's coming.... an easy button.

No, no, no, a million times NO!!!

It's a Sleazy Button! And the color is WAY green with gold inlay and wheat symbols, a Bible and VP's crest on top of everything. Don't you see? It's as simple as beep beep beep, boop boop boop! :) You just take anything decent and honest then hit the Sleazy Button and, presto, plain as the nose on your face! It's contaminated and rotten!

  3. I think pretty much all of my organized witnessing experiences were strange. The longer I was in, the weirder it became. Early on, I was excited and just wanted to tell everyone. The moment it felt like a military assault with planning, strategy, etc., it became rehearsed and very uncomfortable. But my weirdest? Probably being forced to drag all my kids to the mall 30 minutes before closing on a school night. What a miserable experience! Anyone there knew it was last minute and was either leaving or getting a last minute item. Their looks said 'what, are you retarded?' I probably was. The ultimate though was finding someone reading their bible but they spoke NO english!!! At that point, I went for a fruit smoothee and hid until the mall closed. My only sensible action was dropping the cup in the trash before our 45 minute sharing time in the parking lot. Yes, 45 minutes to share about how amazing, powerful, etc, etc. the past 30 minutes was. I am very proud to say that was my LAST time ever going witnessing!!!

And the non-english speaker? I was told that we are to focus on those we can actually win. Didn't anyone at TWI speak spanish anymore? Oh well, good for them. :)

  4. All,

Well, I was in the neighborhood and saw the light on here. (Feel free to throw out TWI metaphors here) I thought GSC was closing year. Wha' happened? Not that I'm disappointed, of course. Folks have done SOOOO much for me and a bunch of others too.

Either way, it's good to see a familiar joint is still open. :)

  5. Think I'll go pitch a tent in the backyard for old time's sake. Then I'll go stand outside the bathroom for 15 minutes before I go in. Don't know how to get that sulfer smell into the water, though.

Will you sing Beautiful Ohio at the top of your lungs?

  6. Don't think someone might not say something like that.

Among the many, many moronic things l craig martindale said from the podium was

to say that there was a certain sound that scared "devil-spirits",

and he demonstrated what it was by audibly cocking a gun.

He never explained why a solid weapon would concern an incorporeal being,

I heard him say something similar. His reasoning was it took time for a devil spirit to cultivate a home so wouldn't want to lose it. A murder spirit was his example, I think. If one believes TWI's view on possession, it's a reasonable thing to think.

  7. I wonder how the "rank and file" follower feels about being eyed over by a goon packing heat..

or do they even know? If so.. do they consider it a "necessary evil" to "protect" them from whatever *it* is..?

    Ham,

So you are assuming they are engaged in critical thinking about their own ministry? Ummm...it might happen but...

  8. Things Leadership Said?

Hmm...how about this? "When our wives won't take care of us (sexually), what can we do but turn to each other?" He wanted me to go to a hotel with him. And, yes, I'm a guy. And, yes, my wife "took care of me" just fine, thank you. Ugh!

Or this: "God kept his Word hidden until TWI came along to revive the true ministry." Imagine that God let centuries go by and passed on guys like Martin Luther but couldn't resist the Forehead. :o

  9. I thought I heard somewhere that when all the Corps was put on paid staff that TWI almost went down financially and LCM fired HA for not saying anything about it until it was almost too late. I could be wrong so don't quote me.

I was told by multiple corps that TWI almost fell apart financially after that decision. Did LCM tell people that God told him to do it? Serious question. I was around at the time but can't remember. It must be yet another thing I've blanked from my memory.

  10. HA really was a pervert. I remember meeting him at a Word in Business conference where we had to dress up cowboy style for a Texas BBQ. He had his red cowboy boots on. Another friend and I went over to greet him and commented on his red boots. He said he shined them up real good so he coult put his foot in the perfect place to see the reflection up girls' dresses......GAK!

I remember seeing him at an ACS after I moved from HQ. He looked straight at my boobs, and said "You are looking REAL good!" It felt creepy. Ironicly, that ACS convinced me to get out of TWI. I left 2 weeks later.

See, God DID work at the ACS! :anim-smile:

  11. Tell me this...

If I were to just show up for SNS, would they let me in? Do they check your Bible for notes in Ephesians? Or would security cuff me and toss me in the Way Woods for a couple of days?

At one point, you had to be in good standing. There was a guest book where folks without name tags were herded. You had to write your state, TC, etc. Not sure if that's in place but I'm sure it's not done to make you feel important.

  12. Things seem to keep coming back to me. I have known several obese followers of the way international who wanted to get into the Way Corpse. They were not allowed. I've heard low whispers from those in the know that Rosie doesn't like obese people to be in the way corps and would do whatever she could to discourage overweight folks from joining the ranks.

Just when I thought I'd heard it all....

  13. Living in a cornfield in Ohio probably didn't help. More International Harvester than international relations. I could bring up education as a great way to fix that problem but I know where that would have gone. Sigh....

Back to Sky's original point, these were the folks who were supposed to give US guidance? I keep going back to "what was I thinking?!"

  14. As we all know each year a new theme is released in October at the anniversary.

    <snip>

For example: This year's theme is "Making god our Sufficiency." Translate that as the economy is bad, people are out of work, the way ministry is losing people each year making the resulting abundant sharing lower and/or participation in witnessing and other ministry classes and events are low. Because if God is your sufficiency you would put the way international first, give till it hurts, and move the word!

I'm surprised giving more cash isn't in every years theme. I once asked a corps person if every AC grad in our state gave 10% or more. He laughed out loud! According to him, most AC grads in TWI NEVER regularly gave 10% or more. (I have no way of knowing how accurate that was) Our state had about 50-75 people at the time and almost nobody tithed regularly. Maybe they knew something before I did? :asdf:

  15. LEAD is conducted at a local Ohio state park....A local branch coordinator who used to be at Gunnison is now in charge of the evolution...

Local park? What a mind picture! Newbie corps-wannabe scaling the monkey bars, believing to hang on during a mean session on the swings, etc.
