  1. Wait! Wait! I almost forgot a VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE of Greasespot!!

What about THE?! What shall become of it?! :cryhug_1_:

I have the original one copied Garth. Do you need the link? ;)

  2. Well shucksl. Sorry to see this site go. It's been an absolute blessing from day one.

We've had some differences of opinions over the years, but "You're the Best!"

Thanks for all you've done Paw. It's appreciated!

I'm changing my avatar to a real pic of me. Gonna miss the fiddle peghead avatar,

but I guess all things pass with time. Take care Paw. Travel well, and God speed.

  3. Ha. If you think the "banjo spots are hidden", there's some venues that

offer top quality performance's that are even more well hidden.

Like 333 feet underground. The Bluegrass UnderGround, in the Cumberland Caverns.

Next time you head south, You might want to take in a performance there. :)

This is on my "short list" before I cross through the Pearly Gates.

Picking any instrument there with acoustics like that "available"?

    Priceless! dance.gifdance.gifdance.gif

  4. dammitallanyhow! I fail to understand why we CAN'T edit here after the 12 hour limit!!!

Wasn't there a poll on this a while back????? Why hold the poll if the majority gets over-ruled? CUSSING.gifCUSSING.gif

Here's the pics from earlier. It would have been SO MUCH MORE SIMPLE to have been able to put them where they were originally!

  5. Warning: If you do go take the checkbook but leave the deed to the house at home :)

Ahhh. Sadly, I realized (when my "new" Nechville arrived), that at my age this will probably be the last banjo I ever buy.

There's 3 or 4 other brands that I would love to have one of (ODE D model being chief), but it probably ain't gonna happen.

The only other instrument I really want to have now, is a five string Dahlia fiddle - - also made in Minnesota.

I don't think I'll be adding any more instruments to the household here anytime soon.

Here's some pictures of my "newest baby". smile.gif

  6. Bill - - - Congrats on the new "family members". You're going to be one happy camper. beer.gif

Here's a video of Tom Nechville (who made my "new banjo") picking there at Zepps.

  7. I'll be going home with a Wildwood Troubador and a Goldtone Cello banjo-just because it sounds way to cool.

    ohmy.gifohmy.gifohmy.gifohmy.gifohmy.gif

Father forgive me for I have sinned. I KNEW I should've warned Mstar to leave his checkbook in his car,

before venturing into that "den of temptation" known as Zepps Music Store.

  8. Do you know Don?

No. I don't know him personally. The only contact i've had with him is reading all the very positive experiences

that others have had both with doing business with him, and meeting him in person. Don is someone I'd like to meet.

  9. Reading over on the Banjo Hangout this morning, a lady from England posted a really cool link to the story of

    Vital Mental Medicine: Shackleton's Banjo from the BBC. You can listen to it - - - - - > > > HERE!

  10. Of course I have it with me--it's like MasterCard "don't leave home without it"

I hear that. I don't go ANYWHERE (long distance) without the fiddle/ mandolin/ and banjo.

    spy.gif

  11. Thanks!

    I owe you one

OK. I'll take you up on that. Come 2012, vote Republican! biglaugh.gifbiglaugh.gifbiglaugh.gif

Seriously, here's hoping Don can spend some time with you. He's amazing when it comes to frailing.

Clean. Crisp. And really good renditions of any tune he chooses to pick.

I just got a new banjo myself. A Nechville Nuvo, made here in Minnesota. State of the art workmanship.

No fifth string peg. All the pegs are at the peghead. The picking/ tuning possibilities with this banjo are endless! eusa_clap.gif

    Here's a couple of pics of the Nechville (made in 1994) - - - - > > >

Here's a pic of the "rail" system that both the regular capo and the fifth string capo ride on.

I'm in love with this thing, and feel like a kid in a candy store! spy.gifspy.gif

  12. Comgrats to the two of you. Sounds like all the "miles" have been erased. smile.gif

  13. Hey Mstar - - Head on over to Wendel North Carolina and see Don Zepp.

He can show you a thing or three on your banjo. You DO have it with you, right? wink.gif

  14. A Grease Spot Cafe theme song? There is one, and ONLY one (in my humble opinion) that really "tells the story".

Whether you were in twi-1/ twi-2/ or twi-3 under docvic/ lcm, or rosie, the result was the same. We were all "caged".

Kept within the boundaries set by them, and not allowed to explore personal freedom or goals set for us by ourselves.

Does anyone else remember the teaching docvic did on "freedom" as pertains to a bird in a cage like I do?

He did a good job of saying that the bird was free (within boundaries set by it's master), but not TRUELY free.

As far as I'm concerned, they were @$$holes who promoted "freedom in Christ", so we could be subject to them instead.

We were the "caged bird" docvic talked about so many years ago. Free - - - but only within the restraints set by him and his cronies.

The first verse of the GSC theme song goes like this:

    If I leave here tomorrow

    Would you still remember me

For I must be traveling on now

'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.

Take a hike twi. Thanks to GSC - - - We're all Free Birds now. spy.gif

  15. Does anyone recall how many members WayDale served as posters OR including posters and lurkers?

Methinks we have many more than that number at the Spot.

I never was on Waydale, so I don't know how many members/ lurkers/ etc., were there.

Current membership of GSC is 2,824, and many here have multiple accounts (look at the birthday section).

I'm guessing one could deduct hundreds from the membership here to arrive at an accurate number.

The thing is, Waydale was fun. Remember the poptart thread? And of course, the infamous THE.

There were so many witty, fun threads, that just let us excultists have fun.

    Ahhhhhhhhh Yes!!!! LONG LIVE THE!! < < < - - - (all 205 pages of it!) unhappy-089.gif

  16. I was in 6th grade. Catholic Grade School. We were sent home for the day after hearing the news.

On top of that - - - It was my parents 13th wedding anniversary on that same day.

With the town (basically) shut down due to what happened, they stayed home that evening.

There's a former "baby-sitter" who didn't get to work in Indiana that night, back in 1963.

  17. Nice touch with the Xylophone and pedal steel there, waysider! spy.gif

Love that Levon Helm too, Groucho! What a voice, eh? beer.gif

Here's one written and performed by a friend of mine - - - Becky Buller singing and doing fiddle.

A prolific instrumentalist and songwriter. Doing one of her tunes: "Rest My Weary Feet".

  18. John Renbourn

    Southwind/The Blarney Pilgrim..

    <meta charset="utf-8">

I first heard John Renbourn 30 or so years ago. His talent blew me away back then.

He's so good --- even after all these years. I'd love to know half of what he's forgotten. smile.gif

Thanks for posting that clip. It brought back some very pleasant memories. beer.gif

  19. Can you imagine it? Some wayfers out witnessing and they knock on your door...

...what do you say?...this could be quite amusing...

I make it a point to be polite and courteous to whomever (and I DO mean whomever) knocks on my front door.

Chances are they don't really want to be there either, and it NEVER hurts to be polite and considerate.

No - - - the folks who HAVE knocked on the door don't get inside my house, but I don't "turn them away".

That's what front porches are for. :) I've seating for 3 or 4 folks on mine. It comes in handy time to time.

I don't have to accept whatever they are "selling", and they get the chance to "log time" at my house (if I have time to listen).

Win/ win all the way around. Even though they didn't "score" with me (making the sale or signing the green card or whatever),

they will with whomever they're proselytizing/ selling for. I remember those days myself and I don't envy them in the least.

I wish I had been treated more kindly in my days doing the same. Sometimes I was. More frequently than not, I wasn't.

But I'm guessing all of us here are familiar with THAT scenario, eh?

  20. The FBI is (probably) still investigating them for this song, eh? Homeland security kicking in. blink.gif
