  1. Thought of LittleHawk when I heard this tune today. This tune reminded me of him.

It's been awhile since he's been here. smile.gif

  2. Here's Sam picking on the fiddle. I like the first song best, but the 2nd is really reminiscent of his NGR #1 days. :)

    Here's Sam on the mando. (Like I said - - - There's only ONE Sam). dance.gif

You can ask Mstar about these videos here. He was privileged enough to hear Sam with this group, just recently.

Scott Vestal with the Stealth banjo breaks all the rules, along with all the other pickers in the band. I'm jealous! sad.giftongue.gifspy.gif

  3. Thanks DM. A very nice version, indeed. Who are these guys? I often see the mandolin player backing up different artists such as Emmy Lou Harris.

I wasn't aware that "White Freightliner" was a reference to cocaine but it makes sense to anyone who knows anything about Van Zandt's lifestyle.

Anyway, thanks for sharing that version, I very much enjoyed it.

That's Sam. In bluegrass - - - there is only one Sam. Just like there is only one Doc, one Earl, one Tony, one Bela, etc. :)

Sam Bush plays both fiddle and mandolin equally well, though noted more for his mandolin picking.

The clip I posted was "2nd generation" New Grass Revival.

Sam is the only member of the "1st generation" New Grass Revival group.

The others picking there are Pat Flynn (guitar)/ Bela Fleck (banjo), and John Cowan (bass).

The New Grass Revival was an "offshoot" of the Bluegrass Alliance. (Yup - - there's "off shoots" in music too). rolleyes.gifbiglaugh.gif

Original members of NGR #1 were - - - - Courtney Johnson (banjo), Ebo Walker (bass)

Sam Bush (fiddle and mandolin), and Curtis Burch (guitar and dobro).

Courtney died, and was replaced by Bela. Ebo got himself into prison, for a VERY long time.

He was replaced by John Cowan on Bass. Curtis just wandered off one day, and didn't come back.

Pat Flynn was hired to take his spot on guitar. That leaves Sam as the last original member.

And the video I posted is the 2nd generation NGR (New Grass Revival). There you have it. beer.gif

Here's a pic of three of the original members (John Cowan is on the right. He's the one who took Ebo's spot on bass)

Left to right - - - Courtney (banjo), Curtis (guitar and dobro), and Sam (mandolin and fiddle).

  4. Here it is Thomas. :)

  5. This helps, for some reason, when my heart is broken.

Townes was a good singer/ songwriter. White Freight liner was a "veiled" reference to cocaine.

Here's the version I heard first:

Not sure if I've mentioned this musical resource here before or not. If I have - - - my apologies.

If not - - - here's hoping you find some music you like. smile.gif

  7. Ninety nine bottles of beer on the wall, ninety nine bottles of beer... :drink::drink:

I'm with you Groucho. This is getting "tedjious". What's 76 days from today (the latest posting on Oct 2nd.)?

December 17th (if my math is correct). I'll check in back then, to see what this is all about. beer.gif

I was wondering if it might be the wedding anniversary of Steve! and Cindy!, but now that I think of it - - -

I don't think that wedding took place 8 days before Christmas. That was a MAJOR party, if I recollect correct!

    spy.gifdrink.gifdance.giftongue.gifsmilie_kool_aid.gifbiglaugh.gif

  8. "It was early in December, as near as I remember

While walking down the street in tipsy pride

No one was I disturbing, as I lay down by the curbing

When a pig came up and lay down by my side.

As I lay there in the gutter, thinking words I cannot utter

A lady passing by was heard to say,

"You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses"

And the pig got up and slowly walked away."

  9. I love the rich, dark, heavy, British beers. The stuff that's room temp and has little fizz. Bring it on. Love it. Guinness is the lightest I like to go... Bocks are also good - especially if they're triple or double bocks.... wonderful stuff, beer.

    Liquid bread. cool.gif

  10. So why do you think groups like the JW's, Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and others, are still around while The Way International has all but disintegrated? I heard, though I haven't checked, that the Mormons in particular are one of the fastest growing religious organization in the world.

That's a good question. Somehow they have achieved "legitimacy", whereas docvic and twi never did.

There's been "scandals" in the JW Org, but the Org has seemed to have weathered them with little detrimental effect.

Granted - - - members were lost as a result, but NOTHING like the exodus of 1986/ 87 from twi.

I don't know anything about the 7th Day folks, and all I know of the Mormons, is from what TempleLady used to post here.

I used to be an active poster on 4 different ex-JW sites. 3 of those 4 are now defunct.

I used to use "All along the Watchtower" embedded in my signature pic there. Not many clicked the pic, so it was "lost" on them.

Depending on the web site, I have different tunes embedded in the "sig line" below.

Yup - - Dylan wrote that tune (All Along The Watchtower). It took Hendrix to raise it to proper "status" in the music world.

I've heard Dylan's singing described as sounding - - - "Like a dog with it's hind leg caught in a barb wire fence".

I haven't heard a statement (about a singer/ songwriter) like that, that I am more fully in agreement with. biglaugh.gif

Anyway - - - (back to topic), the Mormons (at least) preach and promote family values (among other things),

that are sadly missing in today's society, which probably strikes a chord with a lot of "newbies when "witnessed to".

With docvic/ lcm/ and now rosie - - - it's always been an "us vs. THEM mentality.

I maybe right about this, I might be wrong. But regardless of that - - - I just don't care.

It's good to see twi "swirling down the toilet bowl of life", headed for the sewer where they belong. spy.gif

(Yes - -- you may quote me on that!)

  11. Thanks. I used to have a copy of this in the old days...tossed it out when I moved once.

Good Lord - - - I HAVE TWO copies here (one was mine, and one belonged to my ex).

I could have a he!!-of-a-weekend if I could sell even one of them (for that price). biglaugh.gif

  13. Done with Boneparte

"Cyberjam" with Boog picking along with Mark Knopfler.

Ian (Boog) is in the right hand corner of the video.

Ian is a picker I know of from Edmonton AB, (Canada).

I think his banjo picking is an excellent addition to an already good tune. spy.gif

  14. For those who experienced the "wierwille factor" in twi.....on numerous occasions, vpw would cite The Bridgebuilder poem where the grey-haired compassionate man built, during the sunset years of his life, the bridge for the youth to follow.

Where was the "wierwille's bridge" taking wayfaring youth?

  15. Open jam night?...For sure!

First we level the floor and put a long bar on each side...then fill the middle with tables.

Serve wings and other finger foods for free and charge out the butt for the booze.

Will we have to sing "Roll Away" at closing time?? beer.gifdrink.gifdance.gif

  16. Around 30 years ago, L.E.A.D. was a mountain climbing program that took place in the Capitan Mountains in New Mexico. This past April the program was attempted again for the first time in 25 years as a part of a full time Christian leadership program. The S.O.W.E.R.S. walked the same mountains and climbed the same rocks and had some of the same instructors as those many people did those many years ago.

Reading this here makes it sounds like a pilgrimage to the Holy Land or something. ohmy.gifspy.gif
