  1. Is the perpetual burger and fries in the fasty food business exclusive to MickieD's? I doubt it.

Good point. I was going to post earlier but was busy at the new house. How about Wendy's? Burger King? How come it is always McD's that gets picked on? (e.g. "supersize me") and no one ever gets on TV and says - Oh yeah - BTW - Burger King fries are the same as McD's....

We've never been into fast food in my family - but I sure can''t tell the difference when someone comes back to work from McD's or Wendy's. And to refute the woman on the vid - "Why do we feed this to our children?" Well lady - I never did feed them that so stop with your all inclusive we sh(t. She also never bothered to mention that both salt and fat can act as preservatives (most people know about salt but there used to be products called "fatted meats" - meats packed in layers of fat to preserve them over the winter....does she think that somehow McD's is magically introducing special chemicals and drugs into the potatoes? He(( I am NO supporter of fast food but she simply has her little crusade going...I was waiting for her to say that not eating McD's develops more harmony in the home.

  2. Nothing says "tolerance" and "reason" like a nice book burning.

I cannot remember the name of the person who said this - but it was in reference to Hitler's early public book burning sessions..."Once they start burning books it's only a matter of time until they begin to burn people."

  3. You're right, for a Christian Ministry, there was absolutely no "Compassion" of any kind. Here's another question. I heard the whole Myth of the Six Million Rant more than once, but does anyone remember Wierwille saying that we fought on the wrong side in WWII?

Actually yes - and it was when you were in rez.

  4. Alrighty you few that have dominated this thread with your fine gardening. I just closed on my new home - about 0.3 acres of back yard - ALLL of the grass is coming down and ALLL of it will be garden. Ya just cant eat grass as well as the other stuff you can grow...BTW - since it is in Louisiana (USA) I can compost 12 months per year - and indeed I can use a pitchfork with it. Get ready to be jealous oh loved gardening ones of GSC

  5. It is a waste for the Youth and sadly it can be prevented if THEY "WAKE UP".

I'll broaden this outside of the cult mentality if you will. We do not teach critical thinking to children - we teach them how to "do" something - wash the dishes, mow the lawn, etc. But they cannot wake up if we don't teach them critical and independent thinking. They must not be afraid of asking about anything - but we inject our "Robert's Rules of Order" into the class room and shut them down. Now I am in no way blaming every teacher - heck I'm a university researcher - I am simply saying that in order to make children "proper" little things we take away critical thinking and instead we instill fear of critical thinking - I mean really - how many people tell their kids that's it's OK to ask if Dad or Mom are wrong about something?..and we do it in the name of protecting them. My $0.02 and worth at least a nickel.

  6. Personally, I'd take the device, and equip them, instead, with a simple 911 phone, but I'm sure these girls are continuing to tell their dramatic tales on facebook and everywhere.

If you buy cell phones for your children - there is a simple program - no charge - nationally recognized - called ICE (In Case Of Emergency) Have your children (and you for that matter) enter one or more ICE numbers in your cell phone contacts list - ICE-1, ICE-2 etc etc. If there is a truly bad emergency US parameds are now trained to look at the cell phone and see if there are "ICE" numbers." It saves the paras from having to figure out who "John" or "Jane" is in the contacts list. You can also register the ICE numbers with local school districts as well as law enforcement agencies...and it saved one of my neighbors children. You can also register with child advocacy groups (which Shellon can comment more on) - if there are known cases of abusive family members (etc etc) you want a child advocated on call.

  7. Indeed Stefan was a fine person. Quiet, unobtrusive, non-judgmental, all the good with none of the bad. I have not spoken to Stefan in 25 yrs or so - but I shall miss his quick yet dry wit - his easy care of others. He was all of the good stuff TWI claimed you could be - he just did it by being himself without the "help" of some dammmmmmed class. Stefan - keep raising hell son.

  8. Always good to see another one reach the half century mark - means I won't be alone when I whine about age......

Happy birthday you SOB....if I were you I'd take the pineapple from Ron - at least it's free!!! (Nurse looked OK too)

  9. Unfortunately, Wierwille's con lives on...thanks to those who had it "within them" to grab the money making whore by her ears and ride her into gloryland. They learned their lessons well.

Groucho you old cuss - the way you write makes me think I'd like to see a Hunter S Thompson writeup of TWI

  10. Not many people with that kind of charisma are sociopathic enough to do what Vic did...he was truly twisted.

Naming him a sociopath would give him a modicum of excuse for his behavior under the guise of mental disorder. He was just a criminal - a con - and, as you said, a good one - a violent person who lived by bullying, threatening and lying. Blesssss your lil ole heart.

  11. By honesty, I assume you mean what is reasoned to be true based on science (since you're a naturalist and all). If you follow that path though, nihilism is the logical destination. Intuition tells us that there is truth beyond what is obvious, that there is meaning beyond just survival . . . . . . Most people take the intuitive path and I commend them for their optimism.

    Intuition = superstition

Analysis shows that there are things beyond the obvious.

Nihilism is a belief system in its own right. To claim that being analytical (based on science) logically leads to nihilism makes about as much sense as saying that all people who eat carrots die so therefore carrots are deadly.

The superstition of The Fake International did, and continues to bo, far more damage than any analytical approach toward life short of embracing a nazi way of thinking...come to think of it...

  12. Wow - finally some entertainment again! Keep going Bishop - your posts in support of the vicious bag of excrement in Ohio are really great - livens up my evening and everything. Kinda like listening to someone with severe Stockholm Syndrome...tragic but darned entertaining. Wadaya want next - maybe to try and pimp out some GSC ladies for the sexual entertainment of Rivenbark et al? Bring 'em back into that great sexual submission they were subjected to in that con job cult of exploit and derision of women who had some guts?

Poor baby you - read the mission statement here - it's to "tell the other side of the story"

Anyway - lookie here Bishop - if you send me a bank cashier's check for $1500.00 (USD) I'll let you visit my tent of doom and even give you a "word of wisdom."

  13. Hello wise geeks,

I need help. The UpdateTask.exe keeps wanting to connect to the internet. I scanned spybot and then did a full system scan on F-secure--nothing.

Also, looked for it in Add/Remove programs. Not there.

How do I get rid of it?

    Thanks!

    wb

Reviews on it are mixed. >50% said it is benign but of unknown origin, a couple of sites indicated moderately malicious behavior. Google UpdateTask.exe and you will find plenty of references on how to remove it.

  14. Evidently, someone has gotten into my Facebook account and telling people I'm in England, got mugged and need $500 to get back home.

Most of my Facebook buds are GSers.

DO NOT GIVE them anything. I'm NOT in England and don't need $500....I want $500 (who doesn't?), but that's a different story.

IGNORE any thing you might get from these people knowing that I'm safely tucked away in the Ozarks of Arkansas and not in need of any cash.

Thanks for the heads up man.

  15. Of course, in those other scenarios, there is a dimension of power imbalance in the relationship that makes it very clear that consent is questionable at best. I don't disagree with you on this Mark, I'd just clarify that intimate relationships/relations between a teacher/student; a boss/subordinate; and clergy/parishioner should be explicitly stated in applicable ethical codes to be improper. Further, as applicable, if anyone needs to assert or provide proof that nothing in such a relationship took place improperly, the burden of proof would need to be on the teacher/boss/clergy member... at least when it came to any court action of a civil nature (as opposed to criminal), and that statutes can be amended to place MORE of the burden on the alleged perpetrator, if not all of the burden.

Many universities have explicitly stated ethical codes about the power imbalance. Where I teach, if you are a student (female for this example), regardless of age, and you were to come in to my office half naked and throw yourself at my feet telling me you would do anything for a passing grade...and...if I took you up on that offer I am subject to immediate dismissal for "exercising undue influence." It would not matter that you proposed, that you initiated a sexual action/reaction. If I take you up then I have exercised undue influence. This even applies to tenure track positions.

One can argue till blue in the face about who is the perp, or if she was age 25 it was consenual, etc etc ad infinitum, but the burden is on me the teacher; period. I think this is as it should be.

The state of CA has similar code for the workplace. Suppose two employees are having a drink after work and have a consenual sexual liaison. No harm / no foul. However let's say that I as a manager have a similar incident with a direct report. Bad news for me - and again the burden is on me.

The power imbalance is real and hence I don't fond those laws onerous in the least. If there is a legitimately growing relationship it can be brought in the open with a more senior manager (the CEO has no recourse) and then it is in the open and usually the direct report will be moved to another department to remove (or at least mitigate) the imbalance (and also reduce the possibility of nepotism). In the university a similar action can be taken by appealing to the appropriate faculty dean.

One may argue that a relationship is entitled to privacy. Fair enough on the surface but the amount of victimization makes the priority protecting the potential victim. No one requires you to spell out the intimate details of a relationship - just that it is a known and mutually agreed upon relationship.

Interestingly enough that works in everyone's favor. If I have a relationship that is "known" and later there is a falling out it makes it much harder for someone to claim sexual harassment.

Perfect? No. But again the emphasis is on protecting the significant number of people who indeed have been victims of harassment.

As far as the outliers go (someone who sues for harassment over the Playboy in the desk eg) What the heck are you doing with a Playboy at work in the first place? Heck I wouldn't call it sexual harassment but Playboy is for home and the knuckle shuffle - not the work place.

  16. Spot on ( no pun intended WS )...Tesla was an einstein but was buried in history since he was a bit of a quirk. The history books even spell his first name incorrectly - it was Nicolai - not Nicholas...and he did more to pioneer early theories on wave propagation than marconi ever dreamed of hot italian hookers.

  17. HA! wasn't it drunken VIc who said sincerity is no guarantee for truth? Any "so-called" xtian who asks me for money, promises me peace or some other nebulous fulfillment, quotes the bible at me to tell me how to live is nothing more than a scam in my book. Jesus said to love god with all your heart soul mind and strength - I didn't hear anything about money, attending classes, attending home fellowships etc in there...and thank you very much - I don't need a songbook, a horn of plenty, a splinter group con-job to tell me how to love god

I don't think Groucho was cruel - I think he is simply honest about the actual cruelty of the "leadership" so-called - of splinter group multi-level marketing of Jesus.

Twinky...I wasn't talking about sincere folks who meet together in someone's house for Christian fellowship or prayer meetings or whatever...I was talking about those who learned the formula for starting a business...the God business that generates revenue through people's belief systems.

I'm sure there are many ex twi folks who endeavor to lead good Christians lives...but there are others who feed their bellies and their egos by lording over and taking advantage of others...thanks to the example that Vic set.

  18. Right. This was the interesting part of it.

I understand your interest in sunspots due to their impact on E and F layer propagation. Back when I had room to set up HF antennas, I used to live and die by the sunspot cycle.

My interest are other impacts on the atmosphere that could impact climate for several years.

At HF you don't need to worry about rain fade - but....if you have significant increase in precip you will see rain fade reaching from Ka, Ku down into lower frequencies. However if you do the rain fade calcs - you'd need most of the temperate zones to become semi-tropical (in terms of precip) for that much fade down into HF. Of course with C band being used less for broad band and Ku, Ka increasing - well I wouldn't be buying direct TV any time soon.

Other impacts you're interested in? If they're something I've not heard of I'll be glad to pass them onto the NCAR ATAC for consideration

  19. Yeah. I used to ask that question too.

The answer I always got was that we had to remain flexible enough to change as new "truth" came to light.

Is that a real hoot or what?

PFAL was practically engraved in granite.

Yeah - you know - like when we heard God said let their be light - but later "truth" showed it was a UV black light mixed with date rape drugs and Drambuie and that became the standard for social/christian interaction in the cult...coupled with a few thugs (HEY JOHN YOU LARD-AZZ - I ever tell you about what your old lady told me about you in rez?) to make sure "truth" was adhered to.
